So many other devices could have their operational lives extended if they simply had removable batteries, but they don't, and it's just another way for the industry to force consumers to re-buy products they don't really need.

Enviolo already makes an automatic transmission for bicycles. All it does is adjust the gear ratio so the rider can maintain an even pedaling cadence across varying speeds and gradients. We'll see how well Shimano's "AI shifter" works, but I expect most serious cyclists will reject it on principle and less-serious ones will avoid it due to high cost.

People are smart enough to be able to side load apps, but I think a good way to do it is to ask when setting up the phone, like "would you like to allow installation of apps outside of the play store / app store (you can change this later)."
@NJ-wb1czКүн бұрын
There is already a way, like how Xiaomi phones do "dangerous" permissions. Instead of simply allowing you to click like the default android, you have to wait 20 seconds on a scary screen that tells you about how dangerous it is and why. There's also a possibility to install apps in a separate space that doesn't have access to your regular files etc. There are countless ways to do app installing in a safe way, but this isn't about safety at all. It's just a way to slowly reduce the amount of "improper" apps that google doesn't like, like R*V**ced (you can't use its name on youtube)

What they could've done, is add safer ways of doing the same thing. Like, suggest actual alternatives to the dangerous thing you're warning people about. For example, maybe you want to make an app an accessibility admin, but then you can tie it to disabling the internet for it completely and moving it to a separate virtualized storage. So that even if it will record your screens and private data and passwords and everything, it won't be able to send it

Android already has a framework around installing apps from unknown sources. It's called 'install from this source', you need to enable installing APKs from any appstore or the browser, if you downloaded it, specifically for each source. And that is all that's needed, putting another blocker inbetween isn't going to help people see the light if they install APKs from a shady source. I was a it skeptical what epic was doing when you mentioned that title, but I find this lawsuit absolutely correct.
@lwoklidfr19 сағат бұрын

These are highly personal decisions, and I might make a slightly different choice each day, even on the same stretch of road.
