Microsoft Loop is the next best thing since... well productivity and note-taking app 'Notion'. This Week in IT, I look at how Microsoft is planning to challenge Notion and how current features are building towards a big update that customers have requested from Microsoft.

Thanks for watching! What do you think of Microsoft Loop? Does it stand a chance of challenging Notion?

I'm trying Loop, it's too slow. I can't get away from OneNote on Desktop and Mobile. It has 10+ years of notes. I like Anytype more than Notion.

With MS products, its always a question of when they actually roll it out, then when does my IT actually give me access to it. It's tough to get excited about something I might not see for a year or more.

If something like database integration really happens, I hope it's not yet another independent, DB silo, but rather leverages something existing like SharePoint lists or even Dataverse (or both 🙂)

Looking at what they have so far, I believe it's likely to be based either on something they are building out specifically for Loop or on something that already exists in Microsoft 365/Azure. I don't believe it will be a database silo. Let's hope anyway.

Lame headline. No games are changed at this point. 10 minute video that should have been 5 tops. Doing it for the algorithm instead of the audience. Meh.

I want to like Loop but it's a bad half baked product. Loop tasks won't sync to To-Do, inserting a loop component in OneNote doesn't work, and loop components are just links in the native version of Outlook. I've given up on trying to use it.

The biggest issue for actual wider adoption is that you can't share or LOOP IN people from outside of your organization! There has been an active thread in their support page asking for this feature that Microsoft keeps responding to every 3-4 months saying it's "in the works" and "coming soon." It seems to be coming about as soon as cold fusion power reactors. I've tried to get excited about Loop, I can see a TON of actually useful benefits in business use, but when it's siloed to only people within your organization ... it isn't much of a collaboration tool. And I don't understand the holdup, because they already allow sharing outside your organization from OneDrive and SharePoint ... why can't they use the same concept for Loop sharing? Makes me crazy when they knee-cap something useful like this.

@@joshuahernandez-th6ovThat is irrelevant, Loop is a web based application and works pretty much anywhere. Whether you like it or not is one thing but Linux vs Windows isn’t an argument in this casel

@@joshuahernandez-th6ov you obviously aren't working in a business environment. I love Linux. I'm typing on it right now from my home theatre linux box. But the rest of the hosue is on Windows because that's what gets the job done for the people using it. I have a linux laptop at work that I use for investigating suspicious emails that could be malicious. But our corporation runs on Windows. I'm still a fan of linux where it makes sense though. Just yesterday I pushed out the very first Linux PC for public access at our library, using a locked down guest session account that resets itself on every logout. My Android phones ... linux. Web servers ... linux. Handful of Chromebooks ... linux. Love it. Amazing OS. Still completely irrelevant to a discussion about Microsoft Loop.

I don't really get the attraction other than note taking but then I'd also want it to understand mermaid diagrams. The database thing could be interesting providing they don't lock it to dataverse. I suspect Notion has more integration capabilities too so it can receive webhook payloads from other services.

PS: i have the feeling Microsoft is also not convinced themselves. It is often ignored in there b2b presentations. Loop is an experiment and demo of the framework, not a replacement for other solutions.

Loop still has lots of kinks to work out… my team tries to use it, but you can’t add someone to a workspace as view-only. They get full edit access. A huge miss. Plus if someone just LOOKS at a template on a page, it wipes out all the content on that page. Terrible. I want to like it, but it’s quite lacking still. Felt like it was gonna be the next big thing, then all the AI-hype stole its budget.

Since our company runs um MS365, I would love to like Loop. But there are still so many flaws. Not database feature, no view only on pages, when a person leaves the company the workspace goes with them. Countless things. Also no real integration with TEAMS and other MS apps. One thing I don’t understand with Microsoft products is that they offen seem to developed as stand alone products. While the power of Microsoft should be to work towards a Work OS
