Am I the only one shaking my head at all the comments talking down to Microsoft because of their invention? They're trying to revolutionize technology in the way that affects social media, gaming, learning, and so much more but we have people that are so ignorant to accept anything beyond what they prefer that we live in a simple, close minded society. I can care less who makes what as long as it's a step into the future, a step that makes humanity more advanced than where it currently stands, a step I'll be willing to take. Everyone who is easily outraged when one company surpasses another, regardless of how extraordinary the invention is can stay behind in the past- I'm going back to the future (Movie reference is movie reference).

***** Sony doesn't make them, they simply fund them and buy out rights for shit they can milk and then destroy out of their own greed. i.e. Spiderman and many other films. 100% of the films they publish are poorly envisioned or just somehow lowballing the consumer and even the very actors they get to play the roles in the movies. Proof? Look at the leaked files from the most recent hack and tell me otherwise.
@multeyemeteor10 жыл бұрын
No disrespect concerning the project. It seems interesting. But it's extremely misleading to call it a holographic. It's Augmented Reality... when you need a device with a lens and a screen to evoke the digital imagery, it's not holographic. If the opposite was the case, then 3D movies would be holographic as well.
@multeyemeteor10 жыл бұрын

@onsb377010 жыл бұрын
That's not my point. Take a look at the iWatch keynote. Even though it's just a smartwatch like any other, every person in the event acted like apple managed to achieve warp speed. While HoloLens is a very interesting take in AR, everyone acted too indifferent. But that may be the fault of the presenter and his stupid hairpiece.

I think that bitch criticized the surface anyways she start using it making faces to the tablet like if it was some cheap tablet. I was surprise how this reporters are they are Apple users and think because they paid $2000 for a mac book is superior when is not. I own a iPhone but In not faithful to one company I have a pc

This audience is so strange, it looks like they dont even care, they are like "meh, that is just a revolutionary invention that will change the entire world, nothing special" they claped just a few times for hololens, but claped like insane for the shity ridiculous no inovative Apple Watch, in other words, i think they are there to bash the presentation, Microsoft should have chosen the audience with more caution.

If this was Apple that had come up with this idea everyone would be on the bandwagon stating how innovative they are when in actual reality nothing that Apple has created has been innovative; I mean, Jesus, even their companies name was a direct rip off of a fruit.. People just don't like to give credit where credit is due, and although this isn't holographic it's still far more than what Google had done with the "Google glass" that they have released. However, I am frightful of the price that this will come to.

It was more a joke, you can differently see japans quality drop in games at the very least. Don't get me wrong they are fun but from a graphic standpoint there not that great. The final fantasy series was pretty bad at graphics towards the end of the console, although i have to say ffxv looks sexy asf. But that's mainly due to them switching to mobile mostly. It's the new fad currently and many of them are on busy schedules now. But still we all know how japan loves there mechs, have you seen how many animes have giant mecha robot's? I mean seriously there's so many. O__O That moment when you thought someone replied to you but they didn't. Well imma leave this embarrassing comment up for all the world to see. It still make a few good points tho...
@noble20xx5610 жыл бұрын
Sorarixicaric I know. The anime Code Grass has plenty of them.
@Sorarixicaric10 жыл бұрын
code grass? do you by any chance mean code geass? With the main character that's named lelouch? If so it had a bit of mechs but there's a lot more animes that have them. It seems either it's mecha robot's duking it out high school animes, romances, martial arts or psychic grey area aimes. Although all those genera's are fine. There doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground.

Seriously, comments below this video are such a pity! Why would you care about the person itself? This is a technology demonstration, not a fashion show. Plus it's disrespectful to say such things ("oh, his voice is annoying", "oh, he is so ugly"). This is serious stuff here, grow up or get out. Then, there are those who say "I want to play videogames with this!". Just be aware of this : _Hololens is targetting at industry_, not players/gamers ^^'. This explains the high price. It's targetting at _companies_, like JPL (that we see in the end of the video). If you want to play videogames with a similar technology, check out Virtual Reality headsets, they fit better in games, and are more affordable. Now, about the video itself : I have to say, I'm so hyped now! I wasn't a fan of this Hololens (I'm more of a VR guy than an AR guy), but now I see all the potential it's got! Still, paradoxally I really can't see many applications for this. Let's take virtual spatial explorations for example : we can take VR for this as well, it's cheaper and is way more immersive : VR really covers all your field of view, whereas Hololens does not (I heard testers talk about it : the lens work just like a little screen in front of your eyes, it doesn't cover all the reality around you). So, I'm still a VR guy, but now I'm really impressed with Hololens, it's really high-end!

+Lulu Vi Britannia It's not a technology demonstration at all, it's a marketing event, just like Apple's keynotes. Just compare Steve Jobs when he introduced products and this guy/all of the presenters over at Microsoft's events. The long pauses between each phrases, the waiting awkwardly for applauses, the silenced walking on the stage, it's just weird. They should of had a better guy present this.
@Dante02d128 жыл бұрын
Christian Costanzo And what's the purpose of this marketing event? To demonstrate a technology ^^'. My point is, what matters here is the tech, not the guy. People judge him and insult him, and that's just disrepectful. It's a lack of civility, maturity, and common sense, so I just can't stand with that, especially when it's made on purpose. It's just brainless judgement. And I'll add that most people who insult him are likely as lame as him when it comes to public presentation. PS : Trust me, I have seen much worse than that guy.
@karstvignale55008 жыл бұрын
Lulu Vi Britannia I think they just have Steve Jobs as the best marketer/presenter around to compare, so everyone who isn't as good just pops up as being very very bad at presenting lol. The event is for marketing to sell products, they could be selling the best product around for $399, but if they can't market it, it won't sell.
@Dante02d128 жыл бұрын
Christian Costanzo I agree that it could have been a better presentation, still that's not a reason to judge the guy ^^. People are literally insulting him because of his hair or his head (yes, there _are_ such comments, just look below!). That's what I called pitiful, and that's why I said "it's not a fashion show" (at least I think we agree on that one). Plus, potential buyers won't make their decisions according to the beauty of the presentation. Professionals will buy it if they see viable ways to use it, while non-professionals (if there are) will buy it if they see potential fun. The presentation is really superficial.

Oooh big man on the internets stating something he/she knows nothing about. Anyway, already do? I can do anything I want with designs... Print them, play with them, render them, interact with environments, augment real life space with them. I don't need a low poly preview headset with primitive objects and flat colours to make things creative. This thing is a toy, nothing more. IMO, Micro$oft should spend more time with the gestures, digital walls, sound, cameras and lasers to achieve true immersion. Simple act of taking glasses and headsets out of the equation would make it an incredible accomplishment... basically extending what they have with the kinect.

I would hate the future where everybody wears giant glasses and look retarted talking to a machine that covers their face. Everyone will be lazy and would need to rely on technology for everything, everyone would be fat too. The world will soon be lazy, people wouldn't get out their houses, everyone just buys stuff online, where's the adventure in that? There wouldn't be everyday problems, the world would be like a story without conflict! There will also be many accidents

Edmund Prieto *"I would hate the future where everybody wears giant glasses and look retarted talking to a machine that covers their face."* If this type of interface does catch on it would very likely shrink down in size as (or rather assuming) various advancements are made. Look at computers from 40 years ago and compare & contrast them with the computers of today. For something more specific, look at the massive clunky one-trick pony of the late 1980's cell phone and then at the smallest model of smart phones offered today. ; ) *"Everyone will be lazy and would need to rely on technology for everything, everyone would be fat too."* This argument is better applied to how desktop computers are utilized, where the user is confined to long periods of sitting in front of a desk. With smart phones we already see people at least standing and walking around while accessing the internet (though the safety of doing such is suspect). Ideally, a mature augmented reality interface would enable more physical activity while minimizing the safety risks--though only time will tell. You're also significantly underestimating the role technology has for our species. Without technology there is no way we could have reached this point as a species (you take away humanities ability of tool use and you'd very likely cause our extinction). Everything down to agriculture requires some form of tool and even our systems of laws and government requires external data (still largely consisting of printed text) that can be preserved & updated across countless generations. The problems that result from a given application does not reflect technology as a whole but instead a specific design and implementation; and whether or not this thing is an example is up to time to tell. *"The world will soon be lazy, people wouldn't get out their houses, everyone just buys stuff online, where's the adventure in that?"* See the above. Additionally, this already describes the current state of affairs. People indeed buy a great deal of things online, in some regions you actually do see people rarely leaving their homes, and the sedentary lifestyle in general minimizes what some might call "adventure." Why do you think genre fiction novels, non-artistic films, videogames, and similar media are so popular? Granted, there will likely be a multitude of reasons but I’d hypothesis at least some of that is due to what I’ve stated (i.e. escapism into a fun and more adventurous life than your normal sedentary lifestyle). *"There wouldn't be everyday problems, the world would be like a story without conflict! There will also be many accidents"* I fail to see your correlation. One of the many “everyday problems” consists of a concern about privacy, yes? In that case, I suggest you re-watch the video while looking for any potential privacy concern. This is just an advertised (and very hyped) new visual-audio interface, not some cliché “fully immersive” implanted brain-machine-interface right out of a Cyberpunk novel;therefore meaning that people will still very much be aware they are in reality. These devices will occasionally glitch, get malware, and break down (all being very much everyday problems). Finally, people will still be people interacting with one another and so the grand majority of “everyday problems” will persist. As for accidents, I suspect you are quite right-at least until both safety measures in the software are implemented and people learn how to use the thing responsively. *:* D

As someone who spends 100% of their work hours in CAD, this would be a phenomenal tool. To be able to project a model onto something to get a real 3D view of something while I am working on it would be AMAZING. It would cut down on how many plastic prints I would need to have before getting the part just right. Also think of the money you will save not buying newer monitors, from what I can gather you just need one regular monitor then you could theoretically just set up multiple flat surfaces angled like a monitor and project data onto those surfaces.

This could revolutionize design! If tethering to a PC is possible, one can do AMAZING stuff like using a pencil and drawing on paper using a hololens, which then sends the pencil motions (probably of the tip) to digital painting software on a nearby PC! You can then recreate something drawing tablets have been unable to EVER do-emulate a realistic experience of pencil on paper while creating digital art AT THE SAME TIME! And animation could be just as easy! You could get an onionskin hologram on a piece of blank paper of the previous frame and draw the next frame, no need to manually flip an animation sketchbook back and forth! Of course, you may not even NEED to DRAW on the paper in real life, just have a virtual drawing on the piece of paper as you go through the motions using a stylus. The possibilities are AMAZING.

This might actually replace our need for holograms, why would we build bigger and more expensive machines everywhere and strategically placed to view holograms in specific areas while we can carry them with us ANYWHERE with stuff like this, even if they're not exactly holograms, they have pretty much the same function imagine people working using these things, they could have their own creations in the same place without being bothered by space or getting distracted by someone else's work , they could just use a sync function to view the work of someone else, or even work together in the same project, can't wait to see this technology in 10 or 20 years

I think the Hololens technology is ahead of the game for now, (how could Oculus ignore AR???) combining VR and AR, but the specific 3D building demo is counter productive from a creator perspective. An experienced 3D modeler could finish the job in 1/5th of the time using tons of shortcuts and his fingers running on the keyboard like a piano. This makes more sense as a preview tool, rather than a construction tool for the time being. Keyboard and mouse are still way faster tools to build things on the computer.
