They arguably don't need to focus on selling COD on Xbox. It's Steam and PlayStation where they're going to make the most money from sales. And bringing new subscribers to Game Pass on any device that supports the service. They're betting on millions of people deciding to pick the subscription. If Starfield from last year was able to pull in some big numbers for Game Pass last year, I don't doubt the same could be done with the latest Call of Duty for this year. And as much as I despise 'Caw uh Dooty', I wouldn't be surprised if the newest entry pushes Game Pass subscriptions either. I mean, the average consumer would more than likely see it as a better convenience to get Game Pass for the annual Caca of Doodie and Madden/Fifa with the added bonus of more games to play at the ready then having to pay $70 a year for a copy that's resale value has dwindled by the first month.

I don't see Microsoft ending Game Pass. Raise the price to $20 a month, absolutely. And maybe bring back the ability to buy a year of service at a discount. What I have a feeling that Microsoft will eventually do is nix launching first-party games day-and-date on Game Pass and put them on 6-12 months later after the games have reached peak sales. I see them doing this at the start of the next console generation. But I do think they will continue to work out deals with third-party and Indie studios to have those games day-and-date to give people the incentive to play on the Xbox ecosystem. Kinda like how Sony pays studios to have game exclusively on Playstation.

I think what dreamcastguy fails to notice between the difference between a subscription service and the full game is that if mircosoft decides to one day just cut off the option of allowing gaming to pay full price to play the games they could quite easily say that "oh yes were now putting everything on gamepass and its now the only way you can play our games but its only for 20 or more pounds a month". in a company stand point them getting shot of the xbox console production line and then scrapping the one time purchase (should they ever do that) that effectly keeps mircosoft in a good standing when it still got millions of gamepass users that are generating mircosoft a huge net sum every month apposed to one time purchasing of games and mircosoft hardware. in logical stand point keeping the production of xbox consoles doesn't reall generate as much money as they want now and it be only a matter of time before gamepass sales surpasses the cosole sales (if they haven't done so already). plus like you said griffian if mircosoft is in dire straights it can always sell its publishers and game companies to other services in order to rake in the money and in this day in age every company wants a slice of gaming pie.

If anything, in my opinion i think gamepass its a waste of money if you only play a few games from there. Let's say you have gp but you're only playing the same 2-3 games you've always been playing, in that situation you are paying a lot more than just buying the games themselves. Only issue with PC is the steam store. If game pass access works with steam that would boost numbers. But selling it on steam and on Xbox app via game pass will not bring in the numbers imo.

Here’s my (somewhat reaching) prediction: gamepass ultimate goes to $20. Cod base version goes to gamepass, possibly only the ultimate tier. They then have a premium tier at $25 and it includes highest edition of cod, WoW monthly sub, and the gold/ultimate edition of their other first party games. Gamepass only offering base editions and then selling deluxe upgrades is kind of wonky. Itd be better to just offer another tier imo.

In terms of the newer games, I could care less, the franchise has turned to pure cringe and will never be a respectable franchise again, it's almost embarrassing to say you still play current Cod in 2024. I mean last years cod was beat out by Hogwarts legacy in the us. And the uk sales were down %25 compared to its predecessor on its launch week. I have a problem with this guy's point of view. He's talking about how capable Microsoft* is to keep Game Pass running, how much of a non-issue the loses are, but the thing is that Microsoft is not XBOX, Microsoft aren't the ones trying to sell Game Pass. Bo2 in particular suffers from mod menus built into the theatre mode on the game, you just need to watch a 30 second clip and have full free access to mods, everyone on the game can do this at any time. The game is barely playable, Microsoft need to fix that before adding it to GP.

Question? Didn’t Microsoft sign a deal with the FTC saying they couldn’t increase the price of the games/services for multiple years, or it couldn’t be a huge price increase? Because if I remember this correctly then it will be awhile before they can up the price of gamepass. Isn’t that why Microsoft increase the price of gamepass before they fully bought ABK? Though correct me it Im remember this wrong.

What's why there doing the moderate increases because the optics on it don't look as bad they can up the price every now and again and get it up to where they want it and keep it that way without violating their agreement if they do small amounts over large spans

Griffin, just being Devils advocate, but to address your first rebuttal at DCG's claim that this is their final gamble before quitting gaming, Phil Spencer literally said if GP subs don't grow by 2027 MS may consider leaving the gaming space. Not sure how you thought that was such wild a claim

Adding cod feels like the defibrillator for gamepass. Tmif injecting the best games into the sub works, they'll keep investing. If it doesn't likley go the sega route of just making games over consoles.

My problem with PC game pass was the launcher. It's crazy to me that Microsoft makes the worst launcher for their own OS. When I tried game pass for a month on PC there were literally games that just straight up wouldn't launch.
