It's not that Bay Trail or Tegra 4 are better/worse, rather Windows RT is a lighter weight OS so it runs more quickly on low end hardware than does full Windows 8.

What did you like better in a cell phone? The keyed qwerty or the screen type/swype functions? For my I like to feel the keys clicking. I'd go with the type cover and not the touch. Imagine punching keys that aren't there.

It's hard to decide I love the surface design but I don't like it's locked down and doesn't have a keyboard included. The T100 has what I want but quality seems to be an issue and the display doesn't seem so great.

I just bought the ASUS T100 and have been using for a couple days. I really like it. One thing she did not mention is the sound quality, on the ASUS it is great with quite good volume. I installed Chrome and Firefox and both work fine. She is correct about the touch pad, I would give it a 4 of 5 stars. I think it has pretty good quality and the screen seems bright to me. I picked this up at a Microsoft Store in Miami and only Paid $299 for 64GB and the key board. Pretty sweet deal. I like that it is full Windows and can download straight off the internet and not just the Microsoft Store. Like I said I have only had it a couple days but so far I love it and would recommend it.

Lisa Dell Venue 8 PRO is already out, it has a Z3740D processor which has MORE performance and energy savings then the Z3740 shown on the Asus T100. Benchmarks have shown 91FPS for 3D Benchmark on the Venue 8 PRO and same benchmark only 38FPS on the HP Envy 11" model.

Mremile for the T100, it runs the pc version as it is a pc, and I believe it is the same for the Surface 2. The T100 which is running full windows can download any .exe file, which you cannot do with the Surface 2. And yes, that is the only difference, unless the pc has a touchscreen, in which case there is no difference.

Da_damm Hi, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. But after watching this video (and several others) and after having also having held each one in the store, I'm about 80% sure I'm going with the Surface 2. It feels better in my hand. I love the kickstand. I wanted a unit that could transmit wirelessly to my PC and also to my HDTV, I wanted Bluetooth tech, and I'm a heavy eBook reader and the black/white contrast on the Surface 2 looked the best to my eyes. I'm not saying that Surface 2 is the greatest thing ever and that you should run out and get one. I'm just saying that out of all the tablets I've researched, this one seems to fit my needs the best. I do need to spend a little more time with the iPad Air before I make my final decision, though. However, the iPad Air can't transmit to my TV unless I also buy an Apple TV unit, so it's unlikely that I'll go with iPad. But I should give it a chance anyway. It sure is light. Hold one if you get a chance. Very impressive. Good luck with your choice! I recommend writing down a list of everything that you want a tablet to do for you, then write the name of the model next to each item that you can confirm can handle each requirement. The tablet with the most positives should be a strong contender.

The windows store is a lot better now than it was a couple months ago. It meets all my needs. The hardware difference is HUGE. We're upgrading from an original iPad and the Surface 2 meets our needs. As for full windows.....that's why I have a desktop computer. But having the option to access MS Office is nice...though heavy office tasks are for the desktop. I've looked at the Dell Venue Pro 8 and a few other non-RT tablets in this price range....no comparison with the hardware. Surface 2 for me. I don't need my tablet to replace my computer....I just want a nice companion device for travelling or sitting on the couch. This is it.

I hate to say it, but this review was rubbish. Is the reviewer sponsored by Microsoft? She keeps saying the Surface 2 and the Transformer T100 costs about the same, when the Surface 2 with a keyboard almost costs TWICE as much. Prices from Amazon: Microsoft Surface 2 64GB + Type Cover 2 487 + 145 = 632 USD Asus Transformer T100TAM 64GB 373 USD That's more than 300 USD, and that's comparing with the updated T100TAM with an aluminium casing, better screen and cpu. The whole point with the T100 is that it's an incredible bang for the buck, while the Surface 2 saves no cost in material but it also shows in it price and it's questionable whether its worth the price tag when it's less functinal(Win RT) than the much much cheaper T100. The whole review shows a bias towards the Surface 2, ignoring it's drawbacks and focusing on it's strengths, the hardware(which isn't surprising it's good at considering the price).

There's always Pro 2. RT is really Microsoft's attempt for a tablet. I hate that it has a desktop view though cause it confuses people. If MS wants to keep RT, they should take out the desktop view and make everything done on the tablet start screen to make it more tablety.

kimkishineegirl I think MS has a point in keeping the desktop mode. I can't imagine a better file manager than that, that's why I personally really like the RT version of Windows :)

That is pretty true. However MS gives RT this "Am I tablet or am I a desktop?" feel which gives it lots of haters. Hopefully MS is able to fully integrate the file manager in their metro design (is it still called that?! lol) which would feel just like the desktop file manager and then omit the desktop so you can do everything in an app-styled mode. It would give it more of a "I'm a tablet" feel, but yet still have the familiarity of MS. The same goes for all the other apps they use on the desktop being integrated to the start/homepage.

kimkishineegirl WIll have to agree with Shiney Kim. Win RT is the reason I never got a surface in the end. In fact I went backwards in power and in resolution to the modest little T100 Asus. It's actually good bang for buck. :)

24yrukdesigner I don't deny it ;) Could You please tell me, how fluent and fast is the T100 while using it in Metro mode? I think of the new Lenovo Miix, it is the same spec as T100 and comes with an incredible keyboard (way better than T100's IMHO). Of course no heavy gaming and programming, but for metro use primarely and some light programs...will it do?

As a gamer, I chose the T100 for the full Windows 8.1 rather than RT. Believe it or not, but I'm able to run Sleeping Dogs at full speed... with a couple adjustments to the video settings of course. I'm gonna say this... she underestimated the T100. The Bay Trail is a beast in a rat's body. I thought I'd be using this just for school, but when I read up on what this thing can do for gaming, I was really surprised. I've been playing Sleeping Dogs and Borderlands 2 on this thing for months now.

most apps don't take up much space, and you can get a 64GB microSD card for around $25 off eBay to expand your storage. That, along with the deep Skydrive integration and you are doing pretty well on space.

I bought surface pro 2 256GB last year ago and the device is really promosing so far for gaming and designing. I am using adobe's and latest Driver for wacom and for gaming, the latest I am playing is Wateland 2 and Dark souls 2, the proformance is really smooth even for battle feild 4 and Titan fall s. I actually got the asus transformer for christmas, its not bad at all.Its just like a regular windows 8 touchscreen laptop.I would subsribe it to people from ages 10-30.Its very good worth the money.One thing the windows app store isn't as good as other app stores but it makes a perfect working pc.

I want to be able to play my vob video files which the Surface does not have application to play and no I don't have the time or desire to convert all my video files to a file the Surface can read. Awesome review, as always. Still can't recommend Surface RT (nor any other ARM tablet) at that price point when there good quality Atom tablets, like the Asus Vivo Tab Smart, available on the market. Sure they are more prone to malware, but the added functionality far out weighs that, IMO. Either the price (of any ARM tablet) has to be under $200 or the functionality must match Atom tablets.
