The Microsoft Surface Go is a 10-inch Hybrid Windows 10 computer. It's basically a really small Surface Pro. To get it to size, Microsoft had to do a bunch of engineering but also make some compromises from what you might be used to on a bigger machine. We covered a lot of the basics in our last video, so for this review we’re answering a bunch of questions from some of you.

@@krzysztofwalo661, I couldn't agree more. What this review does is push the device limit, which I think, is not for what it intended. So, if you want more, obviously, go for Pro...

Had the chance to play with one in the MS Store yesterday. Completely blew my expectations away. I wasn't ready to dole out cash - but I'm now fully considering selling my iPad so I can get this. It's super snappy, the pen is fantastic, and the keyboard is REALLY clicky and impressive.

I feel obligated to tell you that for a little more than you get this product plus+keyboard, you could just get a surface pro with an i5 and a better resolution screen, if you did ever want to jump on that. That is assuming you have a Costco membership, which is where they sell the exclusive deal.

Alternate TDH Oh I know COULD get a better Surface (Pro in your mention), but there is something about the size, the nicely rounded corners (the standard Surfaces are too ‘sharp) and the overall performance and usability. I was VERY impressed.

Steven Mancera it’s nearly exactly the same size as the standard iPad, and a bit thicker (not by much at all). It feels MUCH lighter in hand and the materials used are really quality. I wanted to draw on this thing. It really took the odd size/dimensions of the regular Surface and made it much more one-hand friendly.

Same, that's how I got my SP5 with keyboard and pen for $799 last Christmas. I will, however, say that I still have my Surface 3 (not pro) and not only did it get me thru grad school, but my wife uses it in 2018 and it still does all she wants it to, so I'm very happy that MS released the Surface Go.

I currently use and love my 9.5” iPad Pro with Notability for taking notes in college. I think the smaller form factor is nice since you can fit a book alongside the tablet on a small desk. I think, if priced correctly, the Surface Go could be a strong competitor to students who prefer OneNote and Windows.

Great review. I bought one this past weekend, and was nervous about the choice at first. I'm already starting to love it. I bought this as a tablet replacement that would provide more of a laptop experience. I wanted something really small and light for travel, to use on the plane and at my destination that would offers full Windows. This will allow me to leave my much-loved laptop at home and not miss it the way I did when I only had my tablet. My primary use will be web browsing, work in Office 365 and similar, email, video and music streaming, etc. Nothing too taxing, so I think it will work for me. I have the 8GB/128GB SSD version. This was one of the best options at the price point for a small 8GB machine (got both the Surface Go and keyboard on sale).

This is clearly the best back to school lapto or if your main goal is to read some news, watch HBO or Netflix, KZbin, edit some documents, or even some light photo editing. This thing is just great.. I can't wait to see what Microsoft can come with for the next versión. Maybe slightly bigger screen, Longer battery life and improved S mode Apps Ecosystem that Will turn this device in to the go to no brainer Tablet.

They key is portability. The Surface Go is the lightest convertible that runs a productivity OS and offers useful digital inking. It can replace the functionality of a laptop while being very light and portable. There is a lot an iPad cannot do that a Windows device can do. That is why Surface Go exists.

I'm doing an undergraduate degree in computer science right now, and I currently have a surface book 2 13". I use it with a surface pen to take all my lecture notes and I do all my written assignments on it with OneNote. It's really good and it's also a full blown PC so I can run any IDE software to do my programming assignments. The surface go looks great because it'd be so much more portable, but I suspect I'd be sacrificing battery life and power.

I sometimes want to take a lightweight, small device with me when traveling in case I need to do copyedits on a Microsoft Word or Powerpoint file for a client, or give a talk. Great review Dieter! I just ordered the 8GB model of the Surface GO with the pen, keyboard and mobile mouse. It should be perfect for my needs as i was looking for a secondary device to use for business travel, productivity, Netflix, Spotify and general browsing. This should be perfect for travelling even compared to my 2012 Macbook Air because its just so light and portable and it won't have the same level of compromises as an iPad does when it comes to using MS Office Suite and having access to a proper file system which is where would be worried about taking an iPad away with me without a laptop as well as backup. The USB-C port and charging is a huge benefit for me too as it means that I can carry the same cables and chargers for this as well as my Galaxy S8.

It's really great! It has pressure sensitivity and you can download Autodesk Sketchbook, which is a great and pretty professional FREE app which is also available in the Microsoft store, so it's extremely lightweight and therefore works very smoothly. I wouldn't recommend photoshop because it's very heavy and also expensive af - but now you can upgrade to the Surface Go 2, which costs only 50 bucks more, when you buy the base model. It has smaller bezels and it has some updates

I'm looking for something much more portable than my laptop...if I'm going to go smaller and lighter I'm thinking about a tablet. This would be for business purposes so I need it to be compatible with the software (i.e. Microsoft products) that I use on other computers (desktop and laptop). I just want to lighten the load since I am on the go a lot and even a light laptop is starting to feel cumbersome. This was an excellent review and I really appreciate that it was thorough and also personal...the specifications are helpful, but so is your opinion about its quality and real-life usage.

As a major iPad fan, I thought this was a very balanced review and a very interesting machine. It doesn’t make the software decisions I want in a machine (I.e. I personally prefer the better touch apps on iPad and iOS vs Windows) but it’s definitely making some super cool hardware choices and will be more productive in a lot of situations. It’s awesome to see the surface line continue to iterate, and the competition will make everyone better!

Thanks for this excellent review. This is the secondary device I have been waiting for. I have used the Surface Book (1TB of storage) as my primary computer since 2016 and am very satisfied. have tried both iPads and Samsung Tab S3 as a secondary device for both content and basic productivity, but both fail because of the limitations in the operating systems. Finally in the 128GB Surface Go (with MSFT keyboard) I have a device that functions well as as the iPad and T3 a tablet for consuming content and for portability, but works very well as a basic productivity device once I switched to W10 Home (I had the staff at the Microsoft Store do this for me at the time of purchase). I use my QNAP NAS to sync up key files through QSync (instantaneous, quite amazing), and added a 256GB micro SD for my photos and music, leaving plenty of room on the native 128GB drive. Total success when taken to my first business meeting as my lone device (in addition to a Note 8 phone), as the company's tech guy was able to connect wirelessly to their video display system and I was able to deliver a large PPT presentation easily and without any lag. This unit is cheap enough so that I will replace it with the inevitable upgrades in RAM and storage in a year or so, and this unit will then replace the ancient MacBook pro in the kitchen. In the meantime, this is my go-to device to take on business trips and for personal travel because it is highly functional, weighs nothing, and is a pleasure to use.

UK users and Sky Go app... it can be downloaded and works on the Surface Go. Reason I posted is because I could not find any definitive information online . To get it to download, you need to remove Windows 10 S and download Chrome browser. From that browser you can then download and use the Sky Go app.

To answer your question, I'll be using it for teaching in class because it's nice and portable. I've been using iPads for teaching, but I'm switching to the Surface Go because most commercial textbooks come with teacher-friendly programs that require using a computer to run them. Despite many good reviews, I still have my doubts: whether I'll be able to write on Pdf pages with the pen as well as how fantastically the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil have worked for me.

What kind of non-answer was that about Thunderbolt? Either it has thunderbolt or it doesn't have thunderbolt. In the case of the Surface Go, itdoesn't have thunderbolt. Then you can explain what that means in a practical way, but what he said in the video wasn't an answer.
@quality6779
@quality6779 6 жыл бұрын
Also it was really clear that it wasn't going to have thunderbolt. Did they think the surface engineers were like: Engineer 1: I've got a great idea. Engineer 2: What? What is it? Engineer 1: Let's put thunderbolt 3 on the $400 Surface Go, even though the most premium Surface product the $4000 Surface Studio doesn't have it! Engineer 2: This is genius! It's even better than releasing a failed operating that can only use windows apps not once, but twice! Engineer 1: We are on a roll... And so on...

I am a pretty lightweight user; browsing, media, my big iTunes library, and a few docs. I honestly think even my MacBook Air 11 base model does everything I need so my next device may be the Surface Go, a Chromebook, or an iPad pro.Thanks for the review.

Yo, really appreciate the style of this review. Pooling the most asked questions and answering them gives off an honest and objective vibe while simultaneously evades falling into a trap of 'the reviewer simply doesn't get the point of the product'. I believe the time of pooling the questions and producing a video for it may take a while and risk the video not meeting up the 'hype deadline' but when done right' it makes up with objectivity and information that would help prospective buyers with more information needed before making a decision to buy said product. Kudos!

i have a 4th Gen iPad. it can't update to the latest OS. which means apps would update and i couldn't run them because of the older OS. so id have to connect the iPad to my computer and down grade the apps i wanted to use. was just about to buy a more modern iPad when i decided to get this. now i won't have the old OS problem. and if there was an iPad app thats not on Windows i just use the site.

That was a solid closing remark. Windows is, well Windows. The limitations really do boil down to the hardware you're using and the programs you install. Stay within those hardware limitations and you won't be disappointed with the W10 experience.

Just got one tonight and overall I like it. I have two iPads, an iPhone, and two macs (desktop and laptop). The Go is mainly for my wife, but what we wanted was something smaller like an iPad, but that didn't have such limited functionality. The Go brings that. Better keyboard, you can use a mouse, built-in stand, full desktop operating system. The only downside so far is that, when treating this like a tablet, it has very limited apps. For instance, there is no Wall Street Journal or NY Times app. When I jump on a plane, I like to load up the last several days of papers from WSJ and read them on the plane. Can't do that here, which is the one downside so far.

As an architect it would be great for the next surface to be portable enough to take to job sites / meetings and robust enough to run autodesk apps (revit specifically) in addition to the key adobe programs (indesign, photoshop, illustrator). Every iteration of the surface seems to get closer and closer to this goal ... but not quite! maybe in another couple years.
