I have owned the Surface Pro 7 for almost a month now and absolutely love it. I think it is the most portable and capable device on the market. I work in field sales and do a lot of presentations, so the fact that I can use this device as both a laptop and tablet works great. Between the iPad and Surface Pro 7, I feel that both are comparable when it comes to their touch screen, but, I bought my Surface Pro 7 i5 with type cover for 799, where the iPad Pro starts. I do feel that both devices offer different experiences, but I feel if you're looking for the best tablet/laptop experience the iPad Pro just does not compete. The iPad Pro user is at the mercy of the Apple App store to get the job done, wherewith a full desktop on the Surface Pro 7 you can put any software you want to complete your work. For me, my requirements are very small. Before using the Surface Pro 7 I was using a Chromebook to get my work done and that was just fine. However the Chromebook I was using cost just as much as the Surface Pro 7 and luckily I was still within my return window and so I opted for the Surface Pro 7. Whether you are a student or a working professional, I feel that this device is capable of either situation. How I use my Surface Pro 7 is like an EdgeBook. Meaning I complete 98% of my work through the Edge browser. Completing my work this way allows my device to run much more efficiently and faster and if need be I have the luxury of using the Microsoft full-featured apps.

I've gone for the royal i7/16GB/1TB edition after a year of Surface Go and some years of the Pro3/Pro4 i7/16GB/512GB delights - and the progress as for speed and overall performance is just *stunning*. With my usage, this device hardly ever gets warm, fans are no trouble at all, and battery life is cool. It's an amazing device! - Thanks for pointing out the pen improvements, inking just feels way better than ever before. - The microphone update deserves more attention IMHO.

I received an i3 4G, 128G Surface Pro 7 as a gift. My first thought was "i3? Not the i5 version?" Being fully appreciative I began to test it and now it has become my every day laptop replacement. I use Office365, Teams, and develop in Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint/Dataverse full time. I also us it for KZbin, KZbin TV, Netflix, Photoshop, Visio and everything else. I have never played a video game in my 42 years as an IT pro so not worried about performance issues. Yes, a faster CPU and more memory/storage would be better but seriously, this thing is great!

One of the few reviews to actually mention that the methodology for battery performance tests done by MS was different between surface pro 6 and 7. Most reviewers slam surface pro 7 for having "poor battery life" compared to surface pro 6 but that's just not true. To be fair, MS didn't do a great job explaining it.

The only problem I had was that around 4ish months the screen starting glitching and eventually stopped working but I took it to Microsoft and they gave me a new one. I also talked with a before before going to the store and he said that it's normal so I wasn't worried. Overall I'm pretty happy with it and I don't plan on getting another one for at least a couple years.

That result is for the 128GB SSD, and Microsoft always uses a slower SSD for the 128GB, while the higher capacities are faster. I don't condone that, just stating what they're doing.

I do like that they kept the connebt port because, it keeps your usbc port open, it charges faster than usbc, it has a usb port on it for charging phones etc. and it is magnetic, which might save your laptop.

You are my go to tech channel. I still use my Surface Pro 3 for word processing and web browsing. Question.. I recently retired and started doing simple family video vacation editing. My camera, Sony X3000 does 4k and looks great on our Samsung TV..... But my Surface I5 processor grinds to a hault when clipping together 4k scenes and adding music.... Any budget recommendations for a replacement laptop small enough to take on vacations? Love your channel.. Long time subscriber!

So you want a light but powerful ultra book that is also budget friendly? That’s a tough one to tackle as you normally don’t get all three. You’ll probably want 16g of memory for clipping your 4k video together (even 32g) for a better experience. If you love the surface pro line I think the i7 16gb 256gb And using a micro USB for storage would work well. You’d be able to use the pen and type cover from your surface pro 3 and replacing that machine making this your one all be all machine. If you want even more memory I would recommend the dell xps 13 2in1 comes in 32gb of memory but it won’t be cheap. Last resort would be purchasing the cheapest Lenovo L390 13” notebook and manually upgrading the memory and storage to your preference yourself. (Only notebook right now that lets you upgrade both of those components) however screen won’t be as stunning or bright as the other two options but it is probably the cheapest option. Best of luck!

@@asdjesdsd Alright. The port is actually everywhere and it is not even new. You may have seen it without realizing. We are in the third generation and it goes up to 40Gbps. It uses the same connector as USB now (USB-C) and it used to use the Mini DisplayPort before. So, you can use it for monitors at high resolutions and refresh rates, crazy fast external storage, or many professional applications. Also, it has so much power it can drive an external GPU, so no matter how shitty the internal GPU on your Surface might be, you could game with it on a decent level or do other GPU intensive stuff. It has so much bandwidth it can be daisy chained too. I hope this helped you, man. Cheers :D

I do voiceover work and I use the Adobe Suite. I didn't know about the ARM situation at first... glad I saw your review. I can't have the software limitations that the Pro X would give me. Also... Regarding Photoshop. It's clear that it will take "years" to bring full featured Photoshop for the iPad. So this is far better than the iPad for proper full applications and better file management. Not to mention legacy and enterprise support

Hello, I have purchased a Surface pro 7 like almost 2 month and replaced the product once due to overheating while charging and also working for more than 2 hours, So my advice to you NOT to buy surface pro 7 and after service is worse. I also found that my second replacement is having the same problem(overheating) and I can not connect my any bluetooth device like earphones or speakers. This problem does not exist on my older surface i.e. before replacement. I have purchased it for study and also for office use. Even the battery is not up to the mark it can't last long for half a day. SO AS MY HONEST AND FAIR REVIEW TO YOU IS NOT TO BUY SURFACE PRO 7.

I really like this review. I had the 3 and now the 7. The pen is much better for illustration and overall the product just does nearly anything you need to do. I use the kensington dock for drawing and the standard dock at work. Such a great product and I agree on the styling and functionality. It's barely changed in all this time but nothing still competes for the form factor. I nearly got an ipad pro for the better stylus for drawing but all the negatives of the ipad like no monitor 2nd screen support, poor file management and bad widgets and general interface. Ipad just can't beat the surface even for artists in my opinion. I'm a professional illustrator and the surface does the job wonderfully.

@@petehelme7714 Sadly the QC on the HP Spectre is not too good. I just finished a 83 day marathon with HP. After TWO machines and endless hours with Tech support waiting for new machines and customer service I gave up and got my money back. Very, very frustrating. I have been a long time HP user (I programmed Fortran on an HP machine back in 1976) and it was the worst experience EVER. Totally clueless. So I am now looking at what to buy instead of the Spectre :( . (Note: my 2008 Thinkpad has been my life saver - slow these days but a real rock. It can't run windows 10 and the fan bearings are wearing out so it is very noisy but doesn't owe me a penny )

I have a SP4 with 4GB of RAM. I wouldn't recommend it if you're planning on docking and using as a desktop replacement, but multi tasking is also limited by the small screen size, so I rarely hit limitations because of RAM. I can easily have 10 chrome tabs, a few PDFs, One Note, and the email app open without issue, which is my use case

I'm contemplating upgrading to this from my 4 since I can keep my type cover and pen which are still fully functional. I may spring for it if I can snag a good BF deal since the dual core and anemic gpu of the 6200U are really feeling it these days.

same here waiting for BF, i have the pro 4 and although i can't say is a slouch or anything and still rocking like the first day, but let me be honest here i'm not a power user maybe for you the pro 4 is not cutting it no more, anyways good luck finding a good deal.

Same here. Absolutely happy with my Pro 4 i7 which still does the job, but am tempted if BF deals come along. But since I have already waited so long to upgrade wait for the Pro 8 with Thunderbolt?

The surface pro is not meant to be seen as a traditional laptop computer but more as a tablet that can run windows programs with a hybrid solution of using it as a laptop. Triggered more for light work such as , offline & online media watching, writing , planing , note taking , or Concept creative work. Its a high end productivity tool.

I love my pro 5 with LTE and another one wifi both kick but and love them. I live on the remote site for work and love them. Will wait to see how the Arm X unit does before I dive into a new one. Great review. You always do a great job.

At the end I bought a Surface PRo 7 ...the worst idea I ever had. Lisa, battery draining is a very bad; you can work on powerpoint and excel files for few hours! Despite it looks and act as a wonderful product, I would recommend you to do a review for the battery duration. Frustrated, I updated everything I was able to update .. but no real improvements. I've started searching on the web and I found that I'm not alone; it seems a failure. So my question is: this battery issue is impacting only some Surfaces or it a design or sw bug ... ? In the first case: I might ask MS to replace my device. In the second case: what MS advertised, it looks not correct. Is it only my perception? Can you help with a dedicated video? Thanks
