@@Adrian-wd4rn Wish that was true, running side by side comparison (real life) for a week now. Yes Surface Pro can do anything, but the things an iPad Pro has/does, it really does it better. Comparing to an iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2018. The iPad Pro has certainly much better battery life, at least 2 hours more (at minimum). I just see the battery dropping faster in same usage. Knowing the iPad has a 20% smaller battery. iPad Pro is also just smoother in all things it does (yes, even web browsing). The 120hz scrolling on iPad Pro is much better for the eyes. Sound quality is also much better. Also the iPad Pro touchscreen seems to be better, I have far more accidental taps/clicks (using touch) while scrolling on Surface Pro, and sometimes I have to tap twice for something. Try it with youtube, against youtube app on iPad Pro. You'll see. Surface Pro has no always on and as such no notifications or whatever. Are there any (good) apps for Surface Pro? No. You don't need to? That is because you are using it as a computer. A tablet is in another category. Think of this: would a small Surface Pro as it works today be a good smartphone? No. Surface Pro is better in certain cases, but to call it a better tablet against an iPad Pro is like cursing in church. However Surface Pro is nowadays performing better and better (as tablet). It is no surprise people are switching to it. That is also because Windows 10 is now more and more touch friendly/aware with each iteration. I also wish it was different, some things on iPad Pro are cumbersome and easily done on Surface Pro. But the same counts other way around. It is what it is. It all comes down to what you need (most) in your daily usage, but coming from an iPad Pro you'll sacrifice what I just mentioned, then again you gain some other things (that might matter more to you). I don't mind which one is better, I just wish it was really the case what you are saying. I can keep both if I want to, it is just stupid to have 2 devices of the same category. For me you are better off with a good tablet and a good laptop. However if you must choose (for that budget) between both, a Surface Pro could be the better choice in many cases.

Honestly, I’ve been an Apple user for many years. I purchased the surface pro 5 (2017) for a pretty good price at bestbuy during a promotion which included the type cover. Although I really like Apple, I can no longer justify the price to purchase hardware that offers the very same experience in a different package. “ipad was a larger iPhone” up until pados. What I needed to do on an iPad can more easily and efficiently be done on a computer. If I need to take notes, I can grab a notebook. I love taking digital notes, but the iPad seems to be a square block trying to squeeze itself through a triangular whole. You just don’t need it. For $1k, it needs to offer a more complete experience. I have to carry two devices (Ipas and MacBook) to accomplish what I can do on my surface. With the surface, I only need the surface. Adjusting to looking for software vs apps is the challenge. The surface is better for business. iPad seems to be better as a toy or for reference after you’ve done real work on a computer.

Record iPad and SP7 waveforms individually with the microphone at the same distance for each device. 4. In a computer, open and compare the waveforms (original, iPad, SP7). Correction: Surface Pro 7 is more than capable of handling Adobe Premiere, which gives it an upper hand over the iPad Pro. You have two options: (1) Turn on Intel Quick Sync. With that, you are using hardware encoding so you will see an appreciable drop in video quality (the same as the iPad Pro, which uses hardware video acceleration). Quick Sync in the Surface Pro 7's Ice Lake Core processor is even faster and higher quality than earlier iterations. If it is anything like the last generation, Quick Sync will be faster than Apple's proprietary video encoding solution. (2) Use software encoding. Software encoding is significantly higher quality. It's what world-class studios use for mastering and archival work. With the iPad Pro, practically all video editing apps force you to use Apple's on-chip hardware encoding. Plus, the encode times won't be that long and it's worth it if you are claim you are doing truly professional work. Thanks to the Ice Lake Core processors' performance leap, their software encoding is on-par with 90-watt desktop quad-core processors from just a couple years ago. The bottom line: The iPad Pro is acceptable for semi-professional work and casual editing where you are uploading to KZbin or Facebook where quality is less important. But to the discerning users, the Surface Pro 7 is the definitive choice. That's why, with good reason, B&H Photo Video often recommends Microsoft Surface to their pro audience.

I don't do video but imagine that the i5 SP7 would handle video encoding just fine - It's even faster than the i7 from the SP6. Sometimes I think people get bogged down in theory and opinions when it comes to what a machine can/can't do. When it comes to PCs they will do almost anything you want them to, it might just take longer and use more battery. I've done coding on the Surface Go for example, REAL work that's gone into production environments. This has been when I am travelling light, say for a weekend away with just a small backpack and had to make an emergency change for work. There isn't really a cut off except for games when it comes to the 8th - 10th gen intel devices like the Surface Pro 6 and 7 in terms of what they can do. There is no artificial limitations imposed in Windows. If you want to try and run a brand new game on the SP7 and put everything to low, reduce the resolution then it'll probably play smooth enough if you are happy with the lower visual quality. SP7 can do professional video editing I'm sure of it, it may not be the BEST device on the market but if you want a single device that can do almost anything it's probably the best choice.

just as a sidenote, Keynote is far better than powerpoint.. Not sure about word. But Apple has its own suite of software similar to Microsoft’s, except it’s not subscription based. The advantage of that is that you can access all software from the cloud on any computer and open files even if you’re not logged in to your account on which you’re paying.
@AR9ify4 жыл бұрын
Simon functionality is nowhere near full MS Office applications.
@nuloom4 жыл бұрын
AR9fy You’d be surprised. A lot of the functionality exclusive to the Office subscription are gimmicks. Apple’s apps also have full desktop versions that apart from packing all functionality that one might need, do it in a far more intuitive way. Here’s an example, an extended version of what i said before. Keynote has a layers tab that’s directly accessible within one click. It has tools to set guides, lock and hide layers fast, etc, it makes it easy to create really advanced alignment defaults and defaults as a whole, has these ingenious buttons to copy and paste object styles that works similarly to Adobe Illustrator’s colour picker, just making presentations with it is far more efficient than with PowerPoint and the results are often more graphically pleasing, speaking as a graphic designer. Actually, most designers including myself prefer it for building presentations. Apple’s tools don’t have poorer functionality, they have a different functionality that’s focused on bringing an experience people can be familiar with rather than making a completely new experience and trying to get people to get used to that. Aside from that a lot of functionality Office gives is ridiculous and completely unneeded. The entire point of the software is organisation and document management. I don’t know how about OneNote and software that has no alternatives directly from Apple, but as a matter of fact in 2019, Office is only necessary if it’s enforced by somebody, whether it’s an official in a company or just a teacher. Me ditching the suite actually made me reconsider how i should use such tools and made me more work focused. And the ribbon ui design has yet to look visually appealing. While i see why some people want to use Office or don’t have a choice, the entire point i’m trying to make here is that it really is not as industry leading as Microsoft tries to make it seem. What a long paragraph summarised in one sentence.

My only grievances I wish that when you close or minimize an app, that it goes to the app Switcher screen rather than the start screen.

I don't think iPadPro and surface pro should be compared on a 1 to 1 bases. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Yes some people will like apples and others oranges. But does it make any sense comparing the taste, feel and sensation of eating each one and put it up side by side? My point being, ones a laptop in a tablets body (sp7) and one is a phone in a tablets body (iPad Pro) you can't compare a phone to a laptop. (Just trying to simplify the initial analogy) I can understand that some people might not be able to understand what the difference is between the two devices, and videos should focus on that aspect. And that aspect is primarily the OS more than anything else.

I'm a heavy Apple user. The iPad is a good device at $400 dollars. However, if you're spending $1000 or more, you should NEVER buy an iPad Pro. It's simply a horrendous long term investment for the price. If your choice is between a Surface "Pro" or an iPad "Pro" for the money, get a surface. It will be far more usable for far longer into its lifecycle than the equivalent iPad manufactured at the same point in time. If I'm going to spend $1000 or more, I'm investing in a proper laptop, be it a MacBook or an equivalent Windows PC; both will receive far longer software support than will any iPad. If Apple wants consumers to see iPads as viable laptop replacements, they need to offer much better long term support. As of now, the longest any iPad has seen IOS support has been the Air 2, and it likely won't get the next version of iPad OS. Conversely, if one looks at the Surface Pro 3, which was released the same year as the Air 2, it can still run the latest version of Windows 10, This is why I cannot take such comparisons as these seriously. No one with even a slight knowledge of computers would purchase ANY iPad as a laptop replacement, especially at a cost of over $1000 in order to attempt to use it as a laptop. As I said, for that money, I'd sooner buy a MacBook; but I would also consider a Surface. Consider that when Apple stops updates on the iPad, the user is left with little choice but to upgrade. Proper laptops allow the user to run windows, Mac OS or both, with the option to at least attempt to run linux. Choosing an iPad means committing to frequent upgrades. Anyone spending Laptop money on iPad "Pro" models is getting ripped off in the long term....plain and simple.

Although as I said, I'm currently heavily invested in Apple, I steadfastly refuse to surcumb to a reality distortion field where one allows allegiance to a company to cloud logical thought, which leads them to deny their own experiences. The iPad is a computer, because Apple says so...the Surface is a viable laptop replacement, because it's a tablet in form but a computer in function and practice...and that's why I'd purchase over the iPad "Pro"

Good comparison. The iPad would be my choice as a personal device (for media consumption, email, web browsing). However because productivity and running my small business is my main need, the Surface is much better. Don’t have to worry about being limited to mobile apps, and using a trackpad is better than swiping the screen all the time. iPadOS has definitely widened the functionality of the device, but with that has necessarily come the greater learning curve for gestures, which can be cumbersome at times. For multitasking, iPadOS is not as good as Windows.

Great topic! Great delivery! First review video to force me to seriously consider the surface pro line vs Apple’s compelling IPad Pro 12.9 3rd Gen (which I am typing on). If there is something that I think could improve this review, it would be that the accessories (at least for the IPad Pro, which I am testing) could be better selected. In my opinion, the IPad Pro 12.9 3rd generation is capable of top-notch or near top notch drawing and note taking performance to make it more of a priority than a keyboard experience. Thus, the accessories or peripheral set-up should be more geared to writing/drawing angles rather than laptop-like typing. In that way, if you embedded links to videos related to those accessories/peripherals, I would click on those videos after watching this video. I don’t normally comment on videos but you seem to be on the right track topic-wise. Thanks for your review!

I've already got an iPad Pro 12.9; I'm going to be getting an SP7 in a couple of weeks. I like the iPad Pro, but it just doesn't do the things I really want to do. It's great for surfing the web, or watching TV and movies, reading email and playing games from the app store, but for development, everything seems to be "make it on the Mac, run it on the iPad". I'm too heavily invested in Windows to switch to Mac at this point; it's Windows 7 (soon to be 10) at work, and Windows 10 at home. With the SP7, I can use Visual Studio, and Office on the platform it runs on the best. And I haven't had a great deal of luck trying to remote into either Win7 or Win10 using the iPad; the connection just isn't stable enough.

It's no surprise that the Apple one is more expensive. #AppleTax These devices aren't meant for gaming so of course you won't get the best playback. I think the Surface Pro 7 would overall be more useful in most situations. I also like how it supports expandable storage.

The iPad Pro and accessories are now much cheaper due to the new iPad coming soon, so in reality, the iPad Pro will be a lot cheaper, for instance, you can easily get £500 off the 1tb iPad Pro (new). As for what is best, the iPad is miles ahead of the SP7 as a tablet, if that is the main reason to buy, easy choice. If you want a laptop then neither are perfect and I would not get either as the SP7 is overpriced for inferior user experience. My perfect setup is an iPad Pro and a Macbook Pro; best of both worlds.

Man these products should not be compared!!! Simply put - one is a tablet (IPad pro) the other is a 2-1 laptop (Surface pro). I own a MacBook Pro (not a designer or professional or anything, just bought it because I use Linux at work and thought let’s buy a second hand MacBook Pro and use terminal to practise and python). Mum got a Surface pro from work and Aunty has iPad Pro with pen etc. I used both and can simply say Surface pro is a laptop or computer replacement- it has a USB port and lovely keyboard (bought separately) whilst iPad Pro is beautiful to look at and use but it’s not a laptop. It’s a premium tablet that doesn’t have any usb peripherals or allows you to download 3rd party apps outside of App Store. Apple wouldn’t risk making the iPad a 2-1 as it would take the shine away from MacBook Air or pros. Why pay 1k or more when I can get a 2-1 that does the same. Apple does however, make the iPad a great experience. I hear all the chatter about the A12 processors and battery life which is great but doesn’t mean much if it still can’t do normal computing stuff bar the bare minimum

The two devices are designed to do completely separate things and only converge in the sense that the surface has been made to have a tablet like form factor. However it is a FULL PC.
