We recently had the opportunity to interview Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, for this edition of #TechTalk and discuss the latest trends in the gaming industry with him.
Video game development has become a leading creative industry across the globe, bringing hundreds of thousands of people together to create games for over 3 billion players worldwide.
As a key market for the games industry, Europe boasts a large player base on consoles, personal computers, and mobile devices as well as many successful game developers and gaming studios of all sizes.
Spencer talks about the incredible change the industry has undergone over the past decades and how Microsoft has embraced this change by helping to unite creators everywhere with players anywhere and on any device. Today, while gaming on consoles and PCs keeps growing, mobile gaming has unlocked a whole new way to play.
In this #TechTalk Spencer also describes the future of gaming, Europe’s place in the industry and discusses the reasoning behind Microsoft’s plans to acquire Activision Blizzard King, which has created several of the world’s best-known games.

I hope Phil Spencer is considering to acquire an European publisher or developers. Microsoft needs to acquire Ubisoft to fill hole in action adventure genre or Microsoft should look at some amazing studios based in Europe like IO interactive, Remedy, Crytek, Techland etc. Microsoft has already tons of developers based in US and it's almost impossible to acquire Japanese companies so Europe is the way to go.

The flight started in Brussels and the destination was Istanbul. MSFS on an Xbox Series X, of course. We took off a bit before the interview started, so that we could spend some time getting the angle the way we wanted it. By the time the interview started, I think the plane was close to the in intersection of Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

It's funny how Phil says that the region of Europe, that the game is created in, has an influence over the games itself. And he uses Pentiment as an example of that, being a German-themed game... which was created by Obsidian in California :D Great example, Phil. This whole interview is generally stiff as hell and the fact the the lady needs to check her notes, to see what game she played in arcades years ago, is just pathetic.

You do know most dev teams go the area and learn of the culture before and while making games right?? Also most studios are BASED in one area but have multiple teams right?? Such as Arkane being based in Austin TX but their latest game coming for Arkane Lyon in France.. Or Machine games are based in Europe themselves but main studio is actually in Maryland..

Developers don't have to be from particular region to make a game based in that particular region. Max Payne was based in American setting but was developed by Finnish studio Remedy.
