I found a feature within the PRINT PREVIEW screen (which is accessed from the PRINT command dropdown). If you have, say a word or 2, “widowed”, you can reduce the size of the previous page very slightly, thus allowing room to bring back the widow from the next page. I haven’t printed yet, but on the screen this change in size is ~ imperceptible. Great time-saving feature!

Hi Donna, great info, thanks. It helped me a lot. However, there is one issue that I just can't resolve. I have a book that I wrote and released a few years ago. Went from a publisher to now independent, but when I found the master word file, it was already formatted, but some of the text is stuck in the middle of the page. seems like the header is really big so I end up with just a few lines right in the middle of the page. I tried everything I can think of. Help!

Hi Donna, thank you for your video. Do you know if there is a way to get the same running head title continuing through a section break with different page numbers?

Greetings, I am sorry that I am just now seeing your comment. I am glad to hear that you found value. Are you asking if you can use the same header and/or footer across different sections, regardless of the page numbers?

Hello, I am extremely stuck. Can you tell me how the 'end section' shows up. When I add Next section, it doesnt end the previous section it only says Section Break (Next page)... not END OF SECTION. I really need help please
@DonnaGilliland2 жыл бұрын
Hi Niki, you will not see an "End of Section" code, you only see the words 'Section Break (Next Page)", assuming that is the Section break type you chose. You can only see field codes, as they are called, when you are in Show/Hide mode. When you create a document in Word, by default, all pages are in Section 1. You can see the section number of page in your document via the status bar, located in the bottom left. Each time a system generated page break occurs, which happens when a page reaches the bottom margin setting, the new page is still in Section 1. This is also the case when you issue a manual page break using CTRL + ENTER key. By Word default, all pages of a document are in Section 1, unless you issue a specific break type such as Next Page break. This break type breaks to a new page but the page is placed in a new section. The purpose of issuing Section page breaks is so you can set different margins, page orientation, and/or headings and footers, for specific pages without changing the settings of prior pages. If you needed to remove a manual page break or a Section break type, you will need to turn on the field codes using the Show/HIde button, located in the Paragraph group on the Home ribbon.. You can also press the CTRL key and the * (asterisk) symbol to turn Show/Hide on or off. Once you see the break field code that needs to be removed, you can select and delete. I hope this explanation helps you.

Oh this was wonderfully helpful! But I need some help! I created three sections in my doc: 1) for the unnumbered front matter; 2) for the paginated (on bottom, using page numbers, not a footer) front matter; and, 3) for the body of the book with odd and even headers that include page numbers. The problem is that the odd header for the body repeats through sections 1 and 2 - I have tried to remove the header in these sections (no dice) and have un/clicked "previous section" all over the place. What am I missing? I'm ready to run down the road screaming... Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
