Mr X-Ring.... You have to know how valuable your video for the Microtech knife is. I am a 60 year old man with adult ADD. So unless something is explained in the depth that you explained steps in your video, I will spend the time to watch a video over and over. I only had to watch your video ONCE, then got busy cleaning up my favorite Microtech knife. If fires like it did the day I bought it. I would also like to add that a huge help was a set of micro-needle nose pliers to put the two stops in with those dang little springs. Huge kudos to you, sir, and endless thanks. Of course, you now have a new fan of your vids.... having been an 07/02, I think we have a lot of common ground. Again, what a fantastic job you did on this video. Merry Christmas 2021 to you and yours.

This is one of the best knife disassembly videos I have ever seen. Given the complexity of these Microtech OTF's, you make understanding how it functions and how to service it a possibility for owners. I would now have more confidence in being able to get the knife back together instead of dealing with the embarrassment of sending Microtech a bag of parts.
@gregt.1694 жыл бұрын
Great disassembly/reassembly video. I believe its one of the best ones on KZbin for Microtech OTF's. I myself would never use red loctite on the screws. I use blue loctite only. Reds pretty hard to get off. But I appreciate the time you took to do this video properly. Thank you Sir.
@Crusty_Otter2 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. Purple loctite is actually designed for use on aluminum threads so I'd be inclined to use that instead of even the blue, but I'd never use red on anything I might need to take apart somewhat frequently.

Howdy X-RING. You definitely made the best Microtech OTF disassembly video I’ve seen. I didn’t know it existed until just now. With respect, I would suggest that each screw be reinstalled back into the specific hole it was removed from. This is always a good practice, especially when threads are aluminum. No way I’d use red Loctite even if that’s what Microtech currently uses. With very small screws, especially those screwed into aluminum, purple Loctite 222MS has worked well for me and doesn’t require heat for screw removal like the red stuff sometimes does. It’s also a good idea to avoid coating the threaded tip of small screws with whatever thread locker one prefers. Degrease the screws and screw holes with 91% isopropyl alcohol and use a needle or jeweler screwdriver to apply thread locker in a small area a little above the threaded tip. When the Loctite cures there will be little if any of it on the screw tips which helps avoid cross threading the next time the screws are reinstalled into their corresponding holes. All that said, I hope I’m not coming across like a Mr. Know-It-All. I’ve learned the hard way about Loctite and there are installation tips that are worth the extra time and effort. By the way, now that you’re officially a Microtech guy, I hope you’ll let us know when (if) Microtech starts offering their special screwdriver and bits for maintaining their knives. I understand their reluctance/policy regarding customers performing their own knife maintenance but it sure would be nice to maintain my Microtech collection with factory authorized tools that are machined to the same high standards as their knives. Keep cranking out those cool videos!
@XRING4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tino, Thank you for the compliment and thank you for taking the time to type up that information. I know that the purple will not hold up over time for most users as they do have a lot of issues with people losing screws. The red loctite is applied in a way that keeps it off of the tip. You posted some great info that others need to read. Great addition to the channel.

Very helpful. Thanks! I have a Mini-Troodon that got fouled and the blade stopped reliably locking in the closed position. Was able to disassemble, clean, lube, and reassemble so it works properly now. Was able to find the Microtech propietary chassis bolt key on Amazon for about $8. One thing I'll share from my experience. At 15:00 when reassembling the leg mounts/spring to the slider, I had trouble with the leg mounts popping off the slider before I could get the chassis back together. Figured out there was a little oil on the slider where the leg mounts seat that reduced friction enough to cause the popping. Wiped off the slider and leg mounts where they seat and was able to keep the leg mounts/spring/slider assembly together long enough to put the chassis together. I'd also reiterate your advice at 17:35 about torque on the chassis screws. The chassis is aluminum so only finger tighten the chassis screws; don't use any leverage.

No problem. Red loctite is what they use at the factory when assembling the knives. The screws do have a way of working themselves loose over time. I have never had to use heat to remove them. Thanks for watching.
@doejon94243 жыл бұрын
Huh ? Rittle me this.. how will red Loctite on these tiny screws come loose without heat? Red Loctite is supposed to be used on bolts/screws that are more or less permanent. Why on a Microtech will it come loose but on an engine or tire part.. you need to heat it up? Red Loctite sounds like a warranty problem waiting to happen, where the customer is screwed & has to buy a new knife after "gluing" his Microtech together.
@XRING3 жыл бұрын
You are giving red loctite too much credit on these very small screws. Every Microtech is assembled with Red loctite and have been since before 2013, including the glass breakers. Hasn’t been a problem so far.

Hey thank you for this. My ultratech has dents inside from where the stopping pin hits it. Is this normal? I can send pics if needed.
@doejon94243 жыл бұрын
Of course. The stop pin & other internals are steel. The frame is 6061 aluminum (softer than steel). The continuous deployment & disengagement of the blade slams that pin into the aluminum with great force. How old is your Ultratech? Anything with metal on metal contact will wear out.. and in this case one of the metal is softer so the blunt force will cause that. Nothing to worry about..

@@XRING I get that but it's a bit extreme if you plan to get back in the knife. Especially with proprietary hardware. I'm enjoying the knife videos btw. Lots of channels need to do alternative videos from just the guns since KZbin is ran by a bunch of anti 2nd ammendment gomers.

Can I use WD40 instead of Ram Oil?

It’s better than nothing at all but Rem Oil is the recommend oil for Microtech OTF’s. Make sure to blow out the excess.

Hi, do you have a store or website? Instagram? Facebook? I really want to get an ultratech. Switchblades are illegal in my country, so I was thinking that to get it in, I’ll remove the blade and ship the chassis and blade separate. Would you offer that service? Thanks
