What screwdriver set is that? And where did you get a bit to fit the Microtech triangle screws? Thank you for the video too 🙏
@TheHollowGrindАй бұрын
That screwdriver set came from Microtech but it is pricey. Your best best is to get individual bits from modelandtool.com. In order to find the correctly sized bit for the knife you are working on, check out this website: www.microtechtool.com/

How did you get the blade out?
@TheHollowGrind2 жыл бұрын
As long as the blade stop pin isn't press fit into place you can just remove it and then the blade slides out.

I've been trying to find replacement springs for the combat troodon - I don't stay in the US so getting from Microtech directly isn't really an option. I've found utx-85 springs and ultratech springs though, is it possible to use an ultratech spring in the combat troodon?
@TheHollowGrind8 ай бұрын
I think the Ultratech springs are too short unfortunately, I'm not sure where you can find replacement springs, perhaps get a donor spring from a fake model but it likely won't perform the same.

I know it’s been a year since you made this but ware did you get the replacement spring? I have the same knife it works fine but I’d like to get springs and put them up just to be safe
@TheHollowGrind4 жыл бұрын
I didn't replace the spring, the spring (if it breaks) breaks at the end so you can bend over another coil to hook it back on (that's what I did here)

Oh ok. Thank you

Did that one fail early?
@TheHollowGrind5 жыл бұрын
The end hook of the spring snapped off. It's the only weak point of an OTF knife that I can think of; yet it is the most important part. I'd like to see an alternate style spring that has some kind of reinforcement in this area; time to brainstorm to come up with a better spring I guess.

You can buy new springs.
@dustinewing79743 жыл бұрын
I just tried this with my China-made Cobratec otf and it worked like a charm! No idea how long the spring will hold up but you can bet that I'll just bend a new hook into it if it breaks lol. I used a full-size pair of Linesman pliers by the way, if anybody is struggling out there; just know that it's mostly technique that will get the job done!

Just get a replacement spring from microtech
@hanf0225 жыл бұрын
Is there no company out there that makes aftermarket springs for the ultratech too?
@TheHollowGrind5 жыл бұрын
I'm looking into sourcing spare parts made in the US. Microtech's warranty service is decent currently and we've had no problems obtaining RMAs. In this situation, the customer didn't want to deal with it.
@hanf0225 жыл бұрын
@@TheHollowGrind But what if I am in military in a foreign use for couple of months and I have the tool for opening it. There is no option to wait a couple of weeks to send it in, just for a broken spring, expecially when I need the tool right now and I'm in foreign use. Changing the spring out takes 5minutes, and its easy. Where can I get some spare spring's? In a foreign use its good to have some spare parts for the worst case?!?
@TheHollowGrind5 жыл бұрын
@@hanf022 In these situations the fix in this video would be helpful even if only temporary. I'm just using some small snips and small pliers to bend the last coil of the spring into a hook form and then clamping it back on. This way you can fix it on-site in about 10 minutes or less. I agree that being able to purchase spare parts for these situations would be helpful.
@hanf0225 жыл бұрын
@@TheHollowGrind I also agree it's possible to fix it, but for 100% reliability you need a new spring. Are there somewhere really no aftermarket parts available? As a dealer you could make a deal with them and buy a full pack of spring's?! It's worth a try.
