You can light the led without the need of the extra attiny and run the led directly from the RCWL-0516 board (resistor optional), adding the attiny chip will add additional functionality, also after looking at the data sheet and many trial runs the range and delay time can be adjusted with additional cap's and or pot's, a photo cell can also be implemented for night activation etc. Its a very handy proximity sensor and has a plethora of practical project use, I picked up five of these RCWL-0516's for around $2.00 for five on aliexpress WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Thanks for the upload.

I'm planning to use a couple these sensors in a project, but 5 to 7 meters is way to far for me and I was hoping to reduce the sensing distance. Have you tried to reduce the sensitivity of this sensor? I'm quite curious if you can reduce the sensitivity without catching too much noise.

Mine doesn't work relieable. Not sure what is the problem. And besides, it only works to 4m. Never make it work to 7m, as it says in the specs.

the rays do not penetrate glass, that's what I've noticed ...that could be helpful for shielding in certain directions

They do in a microwave with food containers and would be out of the door glass without the mesh with the little holes in.

This video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJi5pmyklM9spq8) is about the same sensor and shows that it senses motion behind 2 layers of glass. The part about passing through glass starts at 7:00.

Hi, I'm a design student new to experimenting with sensors, and I really appreciate your videos, thanks. Are you able to give me any information on the microcontroller setup you used for this experiment ? I could really use a little help getting off the ground, thanks

I primarily use the Picaxe microcontroller because it is so easy to program and it does everything I need it to do. The board I used here is one of my own design and you can see it in more detail in this video I did before I had grey hairs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnzTfICsoJZ4g5o. You can get similar results from this commercially available kit - www.robotshop.com/en/picaxe-08m-starter-pack-usb.html. Good luck!

On the bottom of the board there are pads marked C-TM , R-GN and R-CDS. R-CDS is for a photo resistor to disable it where it is light. The other two I think are gain(resistor) and time delay(capacitor). I bought mine on ebay and the discription said you can adjust the sensitivity but not how. If you find anything, give me a shout as I cant find anything on the subject. Just overly long useless videos showing the hookup.

1.C-TM Adjust repeat trigger time, default trigger time is 2s;increasing capacitor's capacity will make repeat trigger time longer;and actual counting trigger time can operate as below: Stick capacitor on C-TM,test 9196 3-pin frequency F,repeat trigger time T=(1/f)*32768 2.R-GN Detection distance adjustment;connect with resistor and detection distance will become shorter;if not connect, detection distance is 7m;if connect with 1M ohm resistor, detection distance is 5m 3.R-CDS Internal VCC parallel connect with internal 1M ohm resistor to CDS pin (that is 196 9-pin) by R-CDS ,CDS connects with photoresistor, you can close detection function at night Pin Definition: 3V3:3V3 power output GND:ground OUT:control output;when detect moving objects,it will output high level VIN:input voltage,4-28V CDS:enable control chip, lower than 0.7V,OUT will output low level all the time

Try mounting the PCB in the center / bottom of a small (15oz) soup can, sticking up with it's antenna loops towards the top. It's not going to give you a narrow (flashlight) beam-width, more like 40 degrees wide. Might even see around 3 or 4 dbi of gain in the direction the open end of the can is pointing.. The can should act as a microwave feed-horn, like those found on dish antennas. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3y0aaVnoZ2mi68 Look up the wifi 'usb cantenna' here on the KZbin. Since the RADAR pcb frequency is higher, the can size is going to be smaller than used on the 2.4ghz wifi band. Small soup can might work.. Low cost to try.. :)
