Pharmacist Abraham, discusses Microwaves. Do Microwaves Cause Cancer. Are Microwaves Dangerous, Safe, Bad For You. Microwaving Dangerous Or Safe.
In this weeks video we’re looking at Do Microwaves Cause Cancer Microwaving Dangerous Or Safe. This video consists of the current information on Microwave Safety and if there are any Dangers.
VIDEO BREAKDOWN:
00:00 Microwaves | Do Microwaves Cause Cancer Microwaving Dangerous Or Safe
00:35 How Do Microwaves Work
01:14 Do Microwaves Cause Cancer Microwaving Dangerous Or Safe
DO MICROWAVES CAUSE CANCER MICROWAVING DANGEROUS OR SAFE:
Let’s begin with how microwaves actually cook your food: In a nutshell, microwaves are a type of electromagnetic radiation that is easily absorbed by water, fat and sugar. This makes them move around and that movement helps to heat up the food.
Now I know what you’re thinking. As soon as you hear the word radiation, you might think radioactivity. But don’t panic - microwaves don’t even come close to nuclear bombs! The length and frequency of microwaves are actually very close to the radio waves you use to connect to your wifi and to use your phone to send a text or make a phone call. Even light is electromagnetic radiation, so microwave radiation is not harmful.
This is because microwaves are easily absorbed and blocked by the inside of the microwave oven so they can’t escape. Just don’t stand within 30cm of the microwave or have your head or face right next to it to prevent any radiation getting to you.
This is unlike UV rays in sunlight which are short, high frequency wavelengths that can damage your skin cell DNA and cause skin cancer. Speaking of which, there is no evidence that cooking your food in a microwave causes cancer.
BURNT FOOD AND ACRYLAMIDE:
In the video I discuss the cooking principles for preservation of nutrients and minerals. You don’t want to cook your food using too much heat. And a microwave is perfect for that! You are a lot less likely to char or burn your food in a microwave than other cooking methods. So you can preserve even more vitamins and nutrients.
It also means you’re less likely to get the formation of burnt food bits which contain acrylamide. Kind of like burnt toast or burnt chips. There is some evidence that acrylamide might cause cancer. If you want to read more about acrylamide - www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well...

FYI you should get yourself a Radio Frequency meter and measure your microwave before dispensing advice like keeping 30cm away. Totally unsafe at that distance. You are repeating the deliberate falsehoods of the telecomms industry. At 30cm, our Hitachi microwave measures an extreme level of 250,000 microwatts/meter2. This is 250x the Building Biology Evaluation Guidelines Extreme level minimum (>1,000). And 25x the minimum Severe level (10-1,000). I have to get over 6 meters away to get down to 100. I used an accurate quality Safe & Sound Pro II RF meter. Also, magnetic fields from microwave ovens are actually more damaging (yes, cancer!). Using an AphaLab UHS2 Milligauss meter I get the following readings: 30cm from oven front = 75 millGauss (mG) = 37x-75x recommended safe level of 1-2 mG Head (meter) up close to door watching food! = 325 mG = 160x-325x safe level. 3 meters away from oven = 1mG and quite safe!!! : ) I still use the microwave at times and simply leave kitchen while it runs. No need to dump it, but take good safety precautions when using.

You said - keep distance from microwave .... And phones also use microwaves so i was wondering , will it cause health hazards if i used phones too much? Moreover i had an old phone which (after dropping it from stairs) whenever i used it , it caused headache ... I got rid of that phone but now the same thing happened to my phone (after so many years). Although the intensity of this is much less as i recognise . Am i right ? Does it cause any hazards ? Or its just me thinking too much , or something , as someone told me ... Will be glad to gear from you if you reply .. or anyone replies ...

Thanks for the info, I've been worried about microwaves for years and looking for the right info. I'm still confused about why it's safe to eat food that's come out of the microwave, but it's not safe to stand too close to it? Could you explain! If the radiation goes into the molecules to heat them, how does it not transfer to our bodies? I am not a science person at all- just a health conscious person looking for info! Thank you :D
@spacewolf363

MIcrowaves produce microwaves with a specific lenght so they vibrate only water molecules in order to heat up the food. Your body also have water, that's why you shouldn't get too close because it could heat your own water. There is nothing more in the food after microwaving it. Just less water and other things that boiled out.
@j.s3612

Think of it like vibrator that can shake the atoms of water. The vibration causes it to get hot . The only thing leftover after the Vibration has stopped is heat .

FUN FACT: the food you eat in packet with a well known company were exposed to UV rays (A very harmful radiation which is bad for you) to kill the bacteria's (because they also die when exposed to UV rays). I hope you understand this, if any doubts ask.
