This is really something! I have reheated in microwave & eaten practically everything in this video: eggs, rice, potatoes, spinach, chicken. Have NEVER had a problem my whole life & Iam 80! Of course early on there were no microwaves but have had one since they came out & have found it wonderful to be able to reheat dinner on a plate instead of using various pots & pans. What a convenience! One thing is I do refrigerate leftovers so have always been careful with food but as stated before have never been limited as to what can be reheated so this video is quite a surprise. 🤔

Not to mention that there is such thing as canned mushrooms, spinach, beets, and chicken, which are fully cooked during the canning process, and NONE of them have a warning label on the can that say you shouldn't microwave them. Must not be as dangerous as this video suggests.
@catreader9733
@catreader9733 2 жыл бұрын
I have never experienced any illness episode that could have been caused by reheating any of the listed foods. Although I am not refuting the video, the key takeaways here: 1. The microwave method of heating is only contributory because, due to uneven heating, the temperature is harder to control or know. For many of the foods, reheating to a sufficiently high temperature or reheating to no more than a sufficiently low (e.g. no more than take the refrigeration chill away and consume immediately) would be safe. 2. Reheating is exacerbating, not causing, a risk that was already present in some cases because the food item was improperly, cleaned, stored, handled, or cooked the first time. 3. We do far more damage in our handling and storage of foods than most of us realize. The reheating is merely increasing the danger. Simple example: When we take home food from a restaurant-prepared meal, the food typically spends an riskly amount of time at improper temperature, then we reheat it in a foamed container, and at least we reheat it in a foamed container.

None of this is true. I have actually been cooking and reheating Eggs, Mushrooms, Chicken, and Rice in the microwave regularly for over a decade and never had any issues. Unless the food spends a cumulative maximum amount of time in the temperature "danger zone" (40-140F), which is typically ~4 hours for most foods, and never less than 2 hours. It will not become poisonous. Reheating and even refreezing, contrary to popular belief, is not dangerous in the slightest. Again assuming the cumulative time spent in the danger zone during those defrosts/refreezing/reheating/cooling, etc, does not exceed the maximum.

As long as it's only one day old and reheated through rice is fine for most people. I have known someone who ate takeaway microwaved rice and got sick so if you prepare it properly you have a lower chance. Most of these can be reheated on the stove safely rather than in a microwave.

Well one thing they have wrong is placing prepared “ hot food “ in the fridge. Tightly covered ( sure to get sick that way ). First you must allow it to cool no more then 2 hours before putting in the fridge and make sure the food is cool to the touch as covering it only keep the hot spots active. Put in fridge on top shelf uncovered to cool properly. Never put hot food in a fridge unless you possibly can afford a new compressor. The fridge compressor works harder to cool the fridge when a temperature change is detected.

@@asher6657 No Microwave ovens have been thoroughly shielded for years. Yes, playing it safe and stepping back is a wise practice, but there is very little risk lingering near the oven as it works.

@@ownpetard8379 Even if I concede to your point about a microwave's shielding, the truth still remains; almost every thing that was mentioned, that was dangerous to be reheated, *specifically mentions microwaves.* Actually the fact that it has to be shielded to be safe, proves my point! If it has to be shielded to be safe to stand nearby, how safe is, the food that comes out of it?

Asher that is faulty reasoning. You wouldn't want to be in a conventional oven when it's cooking something but you happily eat what comes out of it. Please study logical fallacies before commenting.

@@nealdo132 nealdo132 Nice try.... But reading comprehension is not your strong suit. I said nothing about being *in* an oven; I said that the fact is that since a microwave oven is shielded ((not against heat, but against Electro Magnetic Emissions escaping the oven) to be safe, proves my point; Not to mention almost every food they warned against reheating, specifically mentions microwave ovens. www.emfprotectionstore.com/store/product/microwave-radiation-shielding-cover-microsafe.html What is most ironic, is that you suggest I study logical fallacies, but your comment is a Red Herring Fallacy in itself! .On a lighter note: you sound as if you were channeling Gilda Radner's SNL character 'Emily Littela' 🤣🤣🤣 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIuvlpSJjL5mbas

I have reheated all of these foods mentioned, and I never got sick or got any stomach upsets. I think it makes your immune system stronger. Even foods that have been in the refrigerator for over a week, I have eaten them and never got sick. But I have reheated most of the foods over the stove top, not microwave.

I’ve been eating reheated rice for 35 - 40 years (since microwave ovens became popular) and cant think of ONE time I got sick. It just takes a long time for all the rice to get hot.

To speed up the process, put a small container of water in the microwave with it. If it's on a plate, dampen a paper towel and cover it. I've been doing these "tricks" for 20 plus years. Give it a try and see for yourself. Enjoy

Canned mushrooms (it's an example) are already cooked, so... every time you use it in a dish you are actually re-heating it! I have eaten them 20 times a year in the last 40 years and never got sick. P.S. Mushrooms contain a very small amount of proteins. You should specify what kind of mushrooms are you talking about and check your sources of information better.

Same.. Haven't died once in 49 years. Also egg fried rice should always be made with left-over rice, its way better that way.

The source article for this video reiterates this information. However, the source data for THAT article says nothing is unsafe at all about reheating eggs (the specific trail I followed to the FDA's safe handling guidines, where it doesn't even mention a microwave) . This is unfounded and pure fluff. It is designed to garner hits and likes, not spread genuine food knowledge. /Loss of credibility, imo.
