I am at the end of my graduate diploma in lifestyle medicine. This semester we are studying smoking cessation. Australia adopts a more precautionary stance and does not recommend vapes, even ones like fume, as a smoking cessation tool because of normalizing smoking behavior. Just saying!
@MictheVeganАй бұрын
@@wholefoodplantbasedmama5398 Thanks and I understand that position but firstly to be clear, Fum is not a vape which I can tell you know but the language was ambiguous ("vapes, even ones like fume"). Secondly, the case for fearing normalization of any pipe shaped object held to one's mouth needs to supersede data in support of herbal air such as a study like this 2023 meta-analysis covering 12 studies on various herbal treatments stating, "The results of this study showed herbal treatments have the potential to help smokers quit the habit." In some cases they saw 3x the smoking cessation over controls but I don't see a strong case in the literature for suppressing the use of flavored air devices. (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10408736/) Eliminating these devices might be cutting off our own leg in terms of solutions that people actually want to use in real life. I think about what my friend who is trying to quit would actually want to use and my friends are excited about this when I show them. I view it as similar to drinking a mock tail which can be a helpful crutch for an alcoholic in social situations. I hope that as vapes have taken over a segment of smoking, perhaps flavored air can take over a segment of vaping and prevent some disease. For a much more drastic example, some thought it would be crazy to give junkies free sterilized needles (normalizing drug use?) but it lowered disease rates. Thanks again for your input. Aside - Needle Exchange Programs Work: "Nearly 30 years of research show these programs are safe, effective, and cost-saving tools that can prevent HIV and high-risk injection behaviors among people who inject drugs." nida.nih.gov/research-topics/syringe-services-programs

Mike, do you happen to know of any well-designed studies that compare a vegan/plant-based diet where one has oil and the other nuts/seeds (calorie-matched)? I'd be curious to see any biomarker implications between two groups like this. For example, when calorie matching extra-virgin olive oil vs ground flax seed (300 calories), EVOO gives 34g of fat vs 24g of fat for the flax, with the flax bringing along 15g of fiber (hey, the avg American's daily fiber intake!!), 10g of protein and host of minerals. To me, this would be a cool comparison of a process plant-based fat source against a WFPB (predominately) fat source. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Note, Norway by exception imports >50% of its wheat (and other grains) from Canada and US, which may explain why in this study from Europe by exception the vegans have a little less selenium deficiency % compared to LO and OMNI - vegans still 47%, thus nominally 2nd most critical nutrient after iodine. In the rest of Europa (except Finland with soil fortification) and many other regions, Se is more critical in vegans. Thus, better consider supplementation there. My level was 600+- and after i introduced animal foods and stopped supplements for about 2months i took the test again and i was at 280. @@linkinl1 The best studied one is cyanocobalamin actually. It's also more cheaper. I would highly recommend going to that form since it's more stable than methylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin works perfectly fine in maintaining B12 in many studies.
