I think it's ironic that when I was eating an omni diet (a pretty crappy, junky diet!), nobody ever said anything about deficiencies. When I went vegan, suddenly everyone is a dietitian and asking me about nutrients! When I ask an omni if they are getting enough protein or calcium, they have no idea themselves! But somehow the vegan, who eats all that fruit and veg, is the one who is gonna get sick. SMH

Same thing happened to me. People generally aren't good with nutrition - including me in the past, they just have this idea eating a 'regular' diet is ok, and that consuming some items from the main food groups makes it balanced. But really, the regular diet people many have is not a good one, and if someone doesn't track what they eat, they just don't know if it's balanced or not.

@Velle you're the one who don't know what he's talking about Iron : most things that lower iron absorbtion are things found in meat. in both where those are present, those iron-lowering nutrient are far from a big enough concentration compared to iron concentrations to really affect us. Cooking get rid of most of those. Zinc : cooking (among other things) food correctly drastically reduce phytic acid in food Vitamin D : he said it in the video, sun exposed mushrooms help the diet Calcium : yes, vegetal milk do have calcium check out the table in this article : www.msn.com/en-us/health/nutrition/which-type-of-milk-is-healthiest/ar-BBGmOu1 Yes, algae are plant, and already part of vegan diet. yes, plant protein are "complete" (what does incomplete even mean here ?!) hod do you think herbivores get their muscle mass ? protein was never a problem in a balanced vegan diet

Been on a whole foods plant based diet for 23 year. Never had any deficiencies. My weight stays the same. I still weigh what I did in my freshman year of college. 145 lbs. I am 6' tall. At 60 years of age I feel great, and am very active with no heart disease, diabetes, cancers, arthritis or any of the other maladies that are plaguing my peers. It has been really easy, and I love what I eat. It is a great lifestyle.

After 10 years I got iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. Now I get B12 injections. I suffer from so many awful symptoms. Don’t believe the hype that said you don’t need supplement. This is untrue. You must take iron &B12 starting on day one of the diet. Iron absorption from non animal products is like 5%. meaning you won’t reach the daily amount and you’ll end up with deficiency.

so glad you addressed the 'eat as much as you want and won't gain weight' myth - it probably doesn't realistically help anyone convert to veganism long term as this then allows them to claim veganism 'doesn't work' when they inevitably gain weight from eating so many plant-based calories

Meg Lean Idk since I switched to whole plants it becomes so high in fiber and hydration It's practically impossible for me to overeat and go against the newfound and natural sense of feeling satiatied that comes from ingesting these foods...I never count calories really. I feel like people eating processed vegan foods (smoothies, mix, puree, oils and sauces) are far more likely to overeat and loose this feeling of appetite loss after eating...more research should be done between the interaction of satiation, calorie intake and density, metabolic rate and overall energy levels to explain this ..

I have a number of health issues so it's possible something else is causing it.🙁

Fast forward to a time where I can buy my own food with COLOUR (vegan) and my blood is perfect, witty mind, fast reflexes, bursting in positivity and energy. My family are so oblivious to the link between their diets and health, that they just say ''lucky you got the good genes''.... No no no I didn't but worked hard to reverse the damage.... but my words fall on death ears. RANT OVER! ;)

@@cleoldbagtraallsorts3380 Hey, I do hope things have picked up for you, but I just wanted to say that low B12 can also cause anemia sometimes. Also, caffeine worsens iron absorbtion so one shouldn't drink coffee and tea 2 hours before and after a meal. And instead should add vitamin C, like Mic said in the video. Of course, it can be caused by all kinds of things and I hope the source of your problems has been or will be sorted out, but every little helps and maybe if you didn't know there things it could help. :)

PlantbasedAthlete so you do realize being a vegan is only possible in countries like the United States where where economically privileged and have the ability to ship Foods in from all over the country at different times of the year when things aren't in season are you telling me that you're going to go to Afghanistan or Mozambique and be a true vegan they're absolutely not no Society in human history has ever been vegan omnivores that are opportunistic that will take whatever they can get if you're getting your protein Source from plants I assume it would be something like chickpeas quinoa or lentils what if you live in somewhere like Minnesota in January and you don't have a way to get those sent to you you certainly not going to grow them if you want to be vegan that's fine but let's not pretend that it's for everybody in the world and that is just such a simple task to take on
@AK2HI
@AK2HI 6 жыл бұрын
8bitmagic just like another comment I've made it's only possible because you live in an economic society that allows for such things because we have a privilege to be able to ship in different foods that aren't in season from around the world where they are let's not pretend that you can be a vegan all over the world and still have a full nutritional diet

lucky Mic, as he may have said BS in that case at 5:55 : Freelee's "30 bananas a day" have 0.027g ALA per 100g (USDA #09040), or 0.035g ALA according french Ciqual (#13005). 120g per average banana (rather small ones). So we have a total of 0.97 .. 1.26g ALA. Now that reaches the RDA of ALA *). The ripeness of her brown tiger bananas further increases ALA content **). In reality she also consumes some higher ALA foods. That shows how difficult it is to miss omega 3 on a (whole) fruit centered diet. The body/liver easily produces the 3mg DHA brain requirement from that (PMID 25920364). A little more criticical would be omega 6 (LA) , but you easily get that from other foods, little nuts/seeds, oats etc. *) "The current daily recommended intake of ALA for adults over age 19 is 1,100 mg for women and 1,600 mg for men" **) PMID 667087 "However, the fatty acid composition of the lipid did change during ripening. This change was confined largely to the phospholipid fraction, in which there was an increase in the proportion of linolenic acid and a decrease in the proportion of linoleic acid."

Download the Daily Dozen app. Unlike other health apps, you don't need to type in what you eat, you just check off items from the list. Saves me the energy to worry about my nutrition. Also, Mic is being dramatic about all these numbers. We're not machines, our body does just fine with inadequate nutrition once in a while - most people eat an inadequate omnivorous diet and aren't dying off. No reason why someone on a WFPB can't do well. If you still get deficiencies, big deal! Anyone on any diet can. They can be fixed.

Noah Hughes That’s understandable. A good staple is 1: hemp seed / quinoa / dates made as an oatmeal. 2: pumpkin/ sunflower/ almond butter. 3: juiced cilantro & herbs. For other meals simply throw. Complimentary foods together in Green Smoothies, green salads, and soups. Cilantro specifically has high k1 to make->>k2 Hemp seed amino acids and protein. And more Greens for calcium and iron I’m emphasizing greens because it’ll keep you from getting cavities you need the K2. Herbs and vegetables Hemp seed and quinoa Pumpkin/sunflower butter That alone will give you caloric density, protein, fat, carbs. Magnesium, iron, calcium, zinc, and the DHA , EPA will be creates because these foods have the proper omega3 vs omega 6 ratio. So yah Hemp seed. Quinoa, made into oatmeal and sweetened with dates. Is a meal Cilantro juice is a beast for k1 for k2 I’d either water it down Because it’s potent. But you need it for bones and teeth When I stoped eating these foods and started entertaining processed foods I got cavities. The vegan burgers and cheeses are not healthy I’d argue that in some ways they’re less healthy than proper meat, proper milk, proper butter, or proper eggs.

This new trend of "vegan" youtubers claiming they all have definiciencies without taking a blood test is absurd, if you think you're low on something, focus on the Vegan foods you can eat with those nutrients. Kevin Curran just be careful. Your body has enough stored of it to last years. Most deficiencies won’t show up for as much as 10 years, but then when it does, you’re in trouble. 2 years is not a long time.

patty 8873 thanks for the heads up! Perhaps it's not wise for me to share how I've lived as everyone follows their own path. I only show concern for the b12 phenomena as it may elude people from choosing not to eat animals as one might think "its not natural to need to take supplements, so wouldn't it be healthier to just eat the meat".. To rebuddle your claim, check out the breatharian Victor Truviano (one of many) who has lived for over 10 years with out food or water, surviving on the energy of the universe commonly known as prana. Kevin Curran thanks for your comment. Im thinking like this sometimes: Why do we need to supplement..? it would be more natural to eat a fish. (This is just a feeling. Im still supplementing b12.) a lot of people on a helthy diet are sick and some people on an unhealthy diet are thriving. Because there are other things too, that are important, not only nutrition. There is some ppl who dont eat, drink. How come they dont die? 😉 We might not understand every aspect of life, but apparently some ppl do. Its so interesting for me

@granudisimo
@granudisimo 6 жыл бұрын
How did you do it? because iron from vegetable sources needs the presence of B12 vitamin to be absorbed, and even the most lenient vegetarian diets (and I mean vegetarians who allow themselves to consume eggs and milk) have B12 deficiencies. Also, no need to mention them iron supplements, because no matter how many iron supplements a person takes, if there's not an equivalent presence of vitamin B12 to absorb it then it will just be eliminated by the body as waste. No problem to admit that you had vitaminic supplements, there's no bad in it (tho there is in lying and misleading, specially when your lies can put a fetu's life in danger for no reason other than your bullshit pride and phony moral superiority).

Conor McTapOut curing cancer, diabetes and anemia? Thats laughable. Diabetes- hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, both are cause by blood glucose levels directly effected by carbohydrate intake. Anemia- malnourishment that prevents the proper absorption of nutrients, caused by a lack of iron. Cancer- generally caused by weak or defective cells and many other variables. Cell health relies heavily on both cholesterol and saturated fat consumption, Vitamins A, K, D and E which all require the consumption of fats to absorb.

Conor McTapOut Do you even know how anemia works? Do you know the difference between heme iron and non-heme iron? Have you paid any attention, like, at all, to what I've said about vitamin B12 being necessary for the absorption of non-heme iron, and how even vegetarians who eat milk and eggs have deficiencies of said vitamin? Well of course you didn't... why do I even bother asking? Is it really that hard to admit that there's no such thing as a miracle diet and that following a vegan diet without pills is impossible?

Getting enough zinc on a vegan diet is easy, the main issue is that certain vegan foods that are considered "superfoods" such as certain legumes, nuts, cocoa powder, sunflower seeds, avocado, dark leafy greens, etc...are also high in copper. Copper and zinc are antagonists, meaning if the copper consumption too high then zinc will be too low by default even if you eat more than the RDA of zinc, same goes vice versa. Where the vegan diet can get unhealthy is when there is overconsumption of both copper and manganese, which is very easy to do when eating larger than normal servings of the aforementioned foods. Manganese and copper are pro-oxidants and abundant in many of the healthy plant foods, so it's best to eat a variety of foods and not just a few of the so-called superfoods every day.

To combat this, eating vitamin C and vitamin A can help a lot. You can find vitamin C in citrus fruits (like oranges, lemons and limes) and vitamin A in foods like carrots, broccoli and sweet potato. Some people apply vitamin C to their face, but it’s far more stable eaten than applied. Vitamin A (in the form of retinoids) can also be applied to the face, but you want to get a prescription for that because it’s quite strong.

@@TrashPandaLover That sounds rough. I hope things get better for you. I went vegan about two years ago when I was 15, and I had a much easier time. I have some suggestions, if you're looking for them: I find craving for animal products can easily go away once you get a good list of tasty and healthy recipes and products. It's just a good idea overall. I'm not a nutritionist, but from what I understand, unhealthily low weight is adverse to estrogen production. But I'm sure your doctors will have much more nuance and good recommendations. There is no reasonable world where they will tell you that you can't go vegan anymore (if they do, they are nuts and you should find real doctors), but perhaps they'll tell you to avoid or focus on certain foods. A blood test is a good idea. If you can, I'd recommend also seeing a nutritionist and trying to schedule your meals. If you plan what you're going to eat and when, and track it all, you should have a good idea of weight gain, health prospects, etc.

You will be ok as long as you eat enough calories, too many vegans do not eat enough food. Most vegan animals are constantly eating(e.g. cows) eat large amounts of grass, Orangutans forage for food 60% -70% of their day. The second problem some vegans do not eat a large assortment(e.g. nutrient dense) foods. As a direct, result they become deficient in essential vitamins/minerals and have negative side effects(e.g. fatigue, excessive weight loss, brain fog). Take care.

I couldn't live a comment in another video you did about someone called Blaire White. I don't understand who says that vitamin supplementation can damaged your liver. I became a vegetarian in 1973 ( in Argentina) , the only thing I was eating was cheese that I quit in 2003 after I started studying nutrition and I also find out how milk extraction was done. So, after 45 years of being vegetarian and 15 vegan, I don't have any deficiencies, the only thing I take is B12, and I teach Yoga and exercise everyday and feel grate at 62. I believe her problem is emotional , and who cares what other people think if you are vegan, in Argentina in 1973 being vegetarian, everybody was making fun of me , but I never eat meat again because I knew it was WRONG to eat a beautiful animal. People who become vegan and come back to eat meat where never convince of what they where doing and why.

Vitamin A isn't an issue if you are consuming enough fats see: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24899156 I believe the highest omega 6s containing items in a vegan diet are oils such as corn, grapeseed, safflower, sesame and sunflower oil. Not all oils are equal, flax oil, hempseed oil or canola oil all have less omega 6s. As for sources of omega 3, flaxseeds, hempseeds, walnuts, and green leafy vegetables are good vegan sources. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratio_of_fatty_acids_in_different_foods omega6:omega3 ratio should be 4:1 - 6:1 some say as high as 15:1 The standard American diet also suffers from a non optimal ratio of omegas, so it's not just a vegan issue.

Well from an evolutionary stand point we haven't evolved ways to deal with high amounts of sat fat and cholesterol either. We do much better eating plant based foods, grains and legumes are more akin to what we ate through out evolution than meat. Without tools/fire we wouldnt even be able to extract many calories from flesh because our teeth/jaw bio-mechanics aren't meant to eat large pieces of raw flesh. What, in your mind, is the ideal human diet that we evolved to eat? And please understand when talking about evolution we MUST be talking about hundreds of thousands to millions of years, not like 50k - 100k.

vonick1 Doesn't change the fact that you're coming at people for no reasons at all. You copy past your novel on people that just liked the channel. Btw, it's nice to know that bringing politics in this was your first reaction. Way to go buddy.

Recovering vegan, here. The science out there is overwhelming. I now know that there is no greater FACT than experimentation with your own mind and body. Watching my body emaciate and my sugar (carbs) addiction start to destroy my energy and health from constant insulin spikes was enough for me not send myself down a road of denial starvation. I wish you all the best health and success. I’m still searching for a long-term vegan than doesn’t look starving!

Yes, the science out there is overwhelming that a well-balanced VLF WFPB diet is super healthy. But you have to pay attention to lysine, zinc, etc.

Look up mushrooms, tempeh, nori sheets, and pond water as sources of Vitamin B12. It's also possible to synthesize and absorb B12 in our small intestines. However, I wouldn't recommend relying on these sources. I recommend people consume B12 fortified foods and beverages. For example, the soy milk I drink contains over 100% of my daily value of B12 in 8 ounces.
@joeyromacus8674
@joeyromacus8674 5 жыл бұрын
@@DesignatedOperator you can only get b12 by eating a shit load of algae. You would drown your body in pond water, not to mention it would have to have feces in it so you would probably make yourself sick. You can't absorb b12 from your small intestine. We don't make it there. It's made in our large intestine /colon where we can't absorb it. Stop spreading bullshit. You have to supplement as a vegan. There is no other choice without eating fistfuls of algae daily.

I'm not vegan, but I'm 90 - 95% "plantbased", and I supplement with a vitamin B complex (all B vitamins) a couple of times a week, and a zinc/vitamin C pill every day as well as vitamin D. The vitamin C is a bit redundant, but the mix is what is most readily available where I live. I supplement with zinc because I have type 1 diabetes, and we tend to have low levels of zinc, which increases oxidative stress. I also supplement with the B complex because of its neuroprotective effects, decreasing the risk of diabetic neuropathy. And finally I supplement with vitamin D, because I live in Scandinavia with long, dark winters while also working indoors during the sunny hours in winter - a blood test also showed me to be borderline deficient a few years ago.

It should also be addressed that men lose a lot of zinc through ejaculation, therefore, they should either increase their zinc intake, or reduce their ejaculations. Pretty interesting, since zinc is abundantly found in oysters, and oysters are considered to be aphrodisiacs, which means, they increase sex drive. Additionally, when I was young, I was told by doctors that masturbation can make you blind. I thought they were saying nonsense, however, there is the fact that poor zinc levels can worsen your eyesight. Another thing that is interesting, is that men who are balding are thought to/perceived usually as having a higher sex drive. At least I have the impression and I was told so by some people. All I'm saying is that there is a basis to this, since zinc depletion can also cause hair loss. So, there is a correlation between high sex drive and hair loss, but not necessarily a causation. Of course, genetics in male pattern boldness play their role here as well. Finally, it all makes sense now with the meat eating culture, where it is considered 'manly' to eat meat. If beef and lamp contain such high amounts of zinc, men could replace their zinc levels with eating meat and dairy. However, consuming meat is not a very good idea long term, because the zinc levels might go up, but the 'willy' will probably go down, with the clogged arteries caused by saturated fat.

I went vegan about 4 months ago. The only issue I had was an iodine deficiency . I was getting a sore throat and was having a hard time swallowing. I found that because I wasn't using table salt that has iodine added to it I didn't have any in my diet. Your thyroid gland needs trace iodine to function. I added a multi vitamin once a day and within a week I was way better. Anyone else have this issue?

Sari Na who tells you this kind of stuff? It's a different form of Omega-3 it's good for some energy but not for what your body needs health-wise. Also the vitamin D is a hormone not simply a vitamin that you take in it's something that your body creates with a combination between ultraviolet light and animal products mainly. Yet another one of the many many deficiencies that vegans suffer from
@kamojet
@kamojet 6 жыл бұрын
Dude (Brad P) I think the question should be who tells you "this kind of stuff"? Take a look at the nutritional info on the back of a bag of hemp hearts. And then you can apologize to Sari Na. And it doesn't matter if vitamin D is a hormone it's still in mushrooms. Did you even watch the video?
@TheDonuan
@TheDonuan 6 жыл бұрын
kamojet you know what's funny? Vegans are always giving all kinds of so-called reasons that you can get what you need from Plants blah blah blah blah blah. They still have 0 claim to morality or ethics with their false man-made religion and with all of their so-called Health claims the studies all over the world show that vegans are some of the most unhealthy people long-term. So you can blah blah blah all you want but people don't eat hemp hearts. Vegans eat french fries instead of chicken. The fact that vegans are 35% more likely to suffer from mental disorders is probably one of the reasons that they get cloudy brained and yes that's a real thing and can't think clearly enough to realize that they are destroying their health. The average person is 5% B12 deficient but vegans 83%. Explain that one to me with all of your supplements explain to me why vegans are still so unhealthy versus normal meat eaters. Explain to me why one of the only multi-generational vegan Societies in the world the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico almost exclusively plant based diet ( 95.6% of their calories from plants) have an average lifespan of 45 years old and 50% of their children die by the age of five if purely plant-based diets are so healthy. No... the only thing I owe people is the truth... and that's something vegans just can't stand to bite into
