This tent is very similar to Mountain Laurel Design solomid. I have a XL XL and find it too short because of the angle of the walls. I’m 6’4”.

Awesome tent! But also big thanks to Dan Durston for inspiring other companies like this one to make better, well design tents in general! Yeah the only con I see its white and would be so much better to have green or darker like khaki kind of color for stealth camping, I know its hard to have dcf in that color(?) but just saying and also maybe a bit wider maybe 15cm+ inside mesh and vestibule also for gear cooking etc. Im from UK so will never buy it sadly because of all the taxes and just a bit too expensive for poor family guy like me haha Anyway, good job and keep making cool stuff guys!

The only thing stopping me from buying is the weight. Why is it so heavy? This is exactly the tent I’ve been looking for - Single pole single wall mid in white DCF, with integrated bug net, no rainbow door (like Zpacks tents), that can pitch with 4 stakes and a regular length pole. Wish it had a Silnylon/Silpoly floor for better packed size, but otherwise - Amazing! With that set of features though, shouldn’t this weigh a bit closer to the Zpack Plex Solo (~14 oz)? At ~17 oz, this weighs the same as the X-Mid Pro 1 which has 2 zippers/vestibules, 2 mesh sides, 2 pole cups, and more space. Where are those 3 oz coming into play?

Zipper door vs the Zpacks toggle system. Zpacks fly doesn’t go all the way down to the floor like this one. This makes the Zpacks drafty. And third and final difference is the peak vents. Zpacks has no peak vents. Since their tent is drafty, I guess they don’t need the peak vents.

@@michelstronguin6974 that’s fair. Still, with those other two tents in mind I wish this was like… 15 - 15.5 oz. Haha It’s a nice tent, but since I already have the X-Mid Pro 1, it’s really hard to justify losing livable space without trimming any weight.

@@dymsk X-mid is a 2 pole tent. Can’t compare them. This tent is for people who hike with 1 pole. Another pole adds weight to the total - if you aren’t using that second pole to hike with then you are carrying it just to pitch the tent. Which means that the X-Mid weighs the extra weight equal to that extra pole. I myself own the X-Mid but that’s because I only hike with 2 poles. So that makes sense for me.

@@michelstronguin6974 I appreciate that’s likely the reasoning for most buyers. I’m comparing them because like you, I also use two poles, but I’d be willing to lose some space if it meant saving any weight. Also, it’d be nice to only need one pole in case one of them breaks.

@@dymsk The only problem I have with single pole tents is that their walls are at an angle, it causes my head and quilt to touch them during the night, which means being wet, countering the purpose of the shelter, which is to keep you dry. You could go for the larger Zpacks Altaplex to prevent some of that touching, but The X-mid prevents that with lots of room to spare, plus weighs comparably to the altaplex when counting needing less stakes for the X-Mid, plus it’s less finicky when you need it to work (just a square and poles in, done). Plus it goes all the way to the ground to prevent drafts when you need it, plus it has peak vents. Plus you just have an insane vestibule space. Plus it has a magnetic snap which is handy when your hands are cold, plus YKK zippers which can be operated one handed (far easier than dealing with Zpacks toggle system). It’s just too many pluses for the X-mid. I broke one of my poles once and simply used a big stick and it worked because you can adjust the hight of the tent from the floor which accommodates different lengths of sticks you find laying around. All of these pluses, I mean it’s a no brainer if you like hiking with 2 poles.

Realistically, and considering a minimum of a 2” pad and 20 degree quilt, what is the tallest someone could be without touching the walls at the head and foot? Also, can a person lean straight up and not have the wall touching their shoulder? Finally, it didn’t look like the corners of the floor had any tension. Is that correct?

I agree, the mid design really limits the length of the tent because of the wall angle. Over 5’7”? probably too small a tent.

I've tried several times now to leave an honest review for this tent on your website. It seems you don't allow anyone to post anything less than 4 stars... I'm posting this review anywhere and everywhere now. Rating: 2 stars I really wanted to love this tent, it replaced my 5 year old $100 dollar beater Amazon tent. Unfortunately, this tent was a complete let down. I used it for 11 days on the Sierra High Route (SHR). I'm glad it was only 11 days because I seriously doubt this tent would have survived any additional days. Cons: 1) Condensation - This tent has a serious condensation issue. It didn't matter if I was pitching it at 5k elevation of 12k elevation. I had serious condensation issues for 10 nights in a row. It didn't matter if I had the vestibule open, closed, or if I camped away from water sources or near a tree, etc. I had more water on the inside tent walls than a swimming pool. 2) The vestibule - The zipper for the indoor vestibule misaligned on day 2. It looks like it's a design flaw. In the SHR you get exposed to some serious winds - 50+ mph. On day 2 I made sure to get the tent as taut as possible. When I opened the vestibule zipper it misaligned because the tent was taut. I was afraid the zipper would break completely. So for the remainder of my trip I made sure the vestibule was loose. This made sleeping a pain because the bottom portion of the vestibule would flap in the wind. 3) Durability - This tent is sold as a 3 season tent. I'm not sure it should be. During day 4 pine needles managed to pierce the vestibule wall. The tent was being bombarded with them while I was in a forest. Wind gusts were 58 mph+ that day. I'm glad it was just the vestibule wall on the actual chamber of the tent. I completed the SHR between Aug - September 4) Indoor mesh - On day 3 the indoor mesh started getting small holes that grew slowly each day. By day 10 I had one large hole - large enough for bugs to get through. The other two are likely to grow as time goes on. 5) The stake attachment loops are cheaply made. Towards the end of my trip a few of them started showing signs of fraying. I am not sure they'll survive the rest of the year. Pros: 1) It's light 2) It's easy to set up. Overall I would not recommend this tent to anyone looking for bomber shelter for hard thru hiking or rough trails. If you're glamping or doing easier trails, this tent might work. I plan to retire this tent and use it solely for glamping; where I can jump inside my car should the tent fail (I expect it to).

The tent is fine. You mentioned you went from a $100, cheap Amazon tent straight to this one, which is a usual move for most hikers’ progression. I’ll venture to say you probably are too inexperienced to use an ultralight tent like this one. And anybody who whines about condensation on a single-walled tent shouldn’t leave reviews on anything. There’s no way to get around it. You make sacrifices for more comfortable, long distance hiking.

I saw that this tarp can be used with the HMG splash bivy (mentioned on website). Are there attach points on the inside walls of the tarp to attach the bivy to?

It can work with the Mid 1 tarp via the loops on the inside. It is primarily designed for use with a flat tarp though.

White is the most lightweight color (due to no dyes) and doesn’t absorb heat in warm conditions. Also easily identifiable in the woods from a distance and lightens up very easily due to its whiteness.

One of our gear testers for the MID 1 is 6'3", but was using a Z Lite and was very comfortable. For a thicker pad, we recommend pitching the shelter with your trekking pole set at 135cm-140cm!

I don’t think so. I have a similar tent from mtn laurel design, at 115” long and the mesh rested on my face and toe box of my quilt. I’m 6’4”, use a thermarest and 30* EE quilt.

Yeah,Durston inspired so many companies now to implement waterproof zipper,magnetic doors and non sag fabrics(silpoly,not on this tent in particular but other tent companies started using it). And I'm not saying,like that's good, we'll start having better tents and all,but it is a little sad that it took companies so long to figure these things out,and they probably wouldn't have done it if there wasn't so much rave about all these features amongst the Xmid users.

"Mid" means a pyramid design tent with one pole in the middle. Durston didnt invent the mid tent... Their tent isnt even one, thats why they called their tent x mid, because of the angles. And if youre calling the two tents similar because they both use trekkingpoles thats like calling any two tents that use tentpoles similar. Yes theyre both tents, there will be some similarities, what do you expect hahaha

@@Jonny-hm3izlook at the feature list of the Durston tent and compare it to this, it’s literally identical. Can’t say that about any other trekking pole tent. Not hating on Hyperlite; just pointing out that Durston is really blazing the trail here and others in the industry are playing catch up.
