This video is about a cute mid century style stand makeover, giving it a facelift with some paint on the exterior and refinishing the legs!! I think it may have been a TV stand or radio that someone modified at some point!

I just found your channel a couple days ago and I’m very serious - your channel is the very best. And not just the work you do... your intro of your videos, editing, everything. I love that you show everything, like when you forget a step or something. It’s real, it’s educational for those of us still learning, and everything you do is beautiful. Even if it’s not my “style” it’s just gorgeous. I love it. Best channel, hands down.

This piece would have held a turn table (record player) in the smaller opening at the top. The bottom would have housed a brass holder for vinyl albums (33s). I used to see these as a child in the early 1960s.

I'm pretty sure that is a stereo cabinet. The turntable would be on top, the receiver in the middle section, and the record albums in the big section on the bottom. I may be wrong, but we had something similar and that was how ours was used.
@valeriehowden471
@valeriehowden471 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Now I remember the receiver in the top shelf and two separate speakers in wooden boxes with cloth/mesh on the front. Back then tv's came in their own cabinet... at least the high end ones did. Seen one repurposed into a fish tank.

Great piece! Would a latex primer stick to scuffed laminate? I'm wondering about priming first, then using the more expensive paint? Thanks!
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
@TranscendFurnitureGallery 3 жыл бұрын
My go-to primer is actually Zinzer BIN shellac based primer- it’s amazing at covering stains and preventing bleed through on wood, and has great adhesion as well on slicker surfaces. :-) I’ve never actually used a latex primer on furniture before!

Do you use a topcoat to protect finish?
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
@TranscendFurnitureGallery 3 жыл бұрын
I do in some cases. Fusion mineral paint actually has a built in top coat, so once it fully cures, is actually quite tough on its own (as opposed to chalk paint, which always needs to be sealed). In some applications, I’ll add a topcoat just for some extra protection, but it doesn’t always require it.

@@TranscendFurnitureGallery I have not yet tried the Fusion Mineral paint. I love Annie Sloan Chalk paint the best along with her wax. Waverly Chalk paint is my second favorite and their waxes are very good as well. For the price, Waverly covers very well. Dixie Bell is my third favorite and they have beautiful colors and tons of other paint products. So much variety out there and I love trying everything. Do I have the money? IDK.
