Mid Hants Railway - Steam on Shed - Summer Gala 2017 - 4K

I had just returned home from a glorious short break filming Welsh narrow gauge railways. I had a backlog of Emails to sort, but one stood out, a Tweet from the Mid Hants Railway "It’s the last day of our Summer Gala, Don’t miss out on our guest locos and real ale train”. I looked at my watch it was 2.45, it was nearly all over. I decided washing the car and mowing the lawn could wait, I knew if I got my skates on I could be there in time to see the last trains and watch the locos return to Ropley Shed. All those Bullied Pacifics was just too good to miss.

I'm a bit late with this one, KZbin just reminded me of it. Excellent, naturally; close up and station shots are so much more interesting than a constant parade of trains going by in the distance.

Hi Andrei, this is my local heritage railway, only one hours drive from my home. I'm glad you enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle at the station. The loco sheds at the end of the day is my favorite place to be, when all the engines return and the atmosphere is just as it must have been in the 1950's.

Its nice to sit on the bank above the engine sheds at the end of day to see the locomotives return as the crews relax, sharing a joke or two, the fires are dropped, the engines cool down and bird song once again fills the air.

Visiting locomotives are always a good reason to make that extra visit and the Mid Hants makes good use of its connection with the main line system to bring in a good variety of locomotives both steam and Diesel.

Thank you Tim. This has got to be one of the best videos of its type that I have seen on KZbin. The zoom and pan, transitions and camera locations cannot be faulted. Put together with the content, location and stills, I am sure I will be watching this video many times. Do you know which is the actual loco carrying the smokebox number 34019? According to my internet search 34019 - Bideford did not escape the cutters torch.

Hi Colin, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, this my favorite time of day to visit Ropley shed. Most people have gone home and the loco crews are dropping the ash and damping down the fires, whilst enjoying a bit of banter, generally enjoying the moment before they too go home, leaving the engines to cool down in the evening sunlight. Unrebuilt Westcountry No. 34007 'Wadebridge', mascaraed as scrapped 34019 "Bideford" for this gala .... that was a good spot because I had missed it.

Hi, Tim! Nice stuff there! Good close-up shots too! Don't you just love the telephoto function on your camera? Makes it look like you're standing right up close to the loco, even standing on the tracks! When in reality you're some safe distance away. Brilliant!

Hi Neil, the viewing area at this station is ideal for watching the locomotives returning at the end of the day and a good zoom lens really captures the atmosphere without having to be too close.

Hello Heinz, I washed the car and mowed the lawn today. It would have been a shame to miss this special event. I did use a drone with permission, late in the day when only a couple of railway staff were left.

Hoi, in het verleden werden witte schijven in verschillende patronen aan de voorzijde van de treinen gerangschikt om het type trein aan te geven - vracht, snelle passagier, treinstation enz. Dagtentreinen gebruikten witte schijven, gebruikte nachtlichten.
