This guy became full on swede. He went from fancy clothes, watches, cars and amazing interior design to full on Jay Leno outfit and minimal excitement and maximal mellowness. I was kinda thinking this would be Ethan in Gothenburg sightseeing nice places, Ethan in Stockholm sightseeing nice places, Ethan out and about showing us the wonderful swedish countryside and nature, Ethan decorating and improving his home into a cool place. Its granpa Ethan in a chair talking about hip replacements. 🤣

My nephew has had a hip replacement at 46 years old. His was the result of a long professional rugby career. Luckily his was performed by the surgeon who did Andy Murray's. He is fine now.

Ethan, i had a hip replacement at the age of 50 which was done on the NHS. 10 years later it is still perfect, the last x-ray showed no wear whatsoever. The surgeon that did mine said that he had fitted the "Rolls Royce" of hips due to my young age. He explained that hips would wear out in times past but that these modern hips should last far longer and possibly for life. Personally i have had no issues whatsoever and it transformed my life. I hope you have a similar outcome and don't worry about the longevity of your new hip, the future is what it is. P.S. The only time i ever notice that it's there is when i have been out in the cold for a period of time and then go inside where it's warm, then you feel a cold sensation in your hip as it takes longer to warm through. It's a weird feeling that you may have already come across. Good luck to you.

I have heard the same thing about the durability of new artificial hips. I recently watched a video of someone who had a double hip replacement and his attitude was to live as actively as before.

Thanks for the comment. Gives me reassurance. Did you do something special to build the hip muscles to make sure it stays intact and doesn’t dislocate?
@davidmarshall6616 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ethan, i saw the physio just once and they gave me some exercises to do which amounted to leg lifts in all three directions to enable as much movement as possible. They also gave me some large rubber bands a little like bungee straps to provide some resistance. That was the sum total of it really but then it was the NHS. I don't think you should worry too much about dislocation, i think you would have to do something pretty stupid or have some sort of accident to dislocate the hip, it's stronger than you think. I would suggest abstaining from ice skating for a little while. One more suggestion would be to refrain from trawling the internet where all you are likely to find are scare stories, people seldom post that they are fine and nothing has happened. Take it easy, gentle exercise, build it up slowly and before you know it you'll be bouncing around like an athlete. Don't forget you have age on your side. Keep well fella!

@@EthanFromLondon When my dad had his hip replaced the doctor told him that walking was best and when he was ready to start working on extending his stride. My dad was 70 at the time so the advice may have been catered to his age.

Ethan, from the way you spoke, I gather it was a living hell during those first few weeks. Thank GOD, you are feeling much better now and on the road to a full recovery. I know having your nephew with you was a great help but I would love to hear your own insight on how you personally overcame this adversity with regards to your mental health and fortitude. Perhaps material for another video. Anyway, wishing you good stuff always.

I am so sorry that happened to you, man. The punishment far exceeds the crime. I once skied and could have made the mistake of starting again with same expectations of my younger self. Only recently have I become aware of how much we decline with age from Peter Attia. We don't feel it. Are you fully functional again or still recovering?
@craigsips8677 Жыл бұрын
We are living through a remarkable technological age. I’ll wager that the hip revision at age 65 will be way more advanced with a much lengthier sell by date.

What a sad tragic event. It is important to have support and be able to talk to staff. Sometimes it is half the rehabilitation. Here in Sweden, it is more natural to be able to speak English with tourists and others. I agree that it is important to train before doing extreme sports, but even athletes like Thomas Fogdö have ended up in a wheelchair. I have broken bones several times, including in my wrist completely off, and it is extremely painful and impossible to fully recover. My mother has had a knee replaced and has had it for over 10 years. Even though she used it a lot, it has held up well. But the first prosthesis was broken. The advantage of younger patients is that they rehabilitate better. It sounds like you'll do better than average. You can see this as the greatest lesson in medical science, now you have passed the final exam and become a master. In a few hours I'm going to have an X-ray as I have a compression and osteopeni. Take care.

Because of my disability, I can't work full-time so I have state medical care here in the US, and a lot of the doctors and nurses I have seen are rude, sarcastic, impatient. I'm sure they're overworked, but still, the last thing you need is a professional medical person who's not very nice, in your time of need.

Pains me to hear that, Maureen. Hope things get better soon. How do personally deal with those rude experiences ? I mean with regards to your own mental health and fortitude.

@EthanFromLondon Жыл бұрын
I am going to ski again. I don’t give up. I just have to build my legs muscles very strong and then they can keep the joint intact.
