Mid Travel vs Long Travel | Different Suspension Systems Explained

This video goes over the differences between our three different types of front suspension systems; mid travel kit, long travel kit, and long travel race kit. Each kit provides more suspension travel and improves off road handling. Mid travel suspension is a great option to lift or level the vehicle and use for mild off roading. The travel kit is the preferred choice for most off road enthusiasts. The long travel kit provides additional wheel travel compared to mid travel suspension and commonly allows for add-ons such as bypasses or bump stops. Pairing bypasses and bump stops with coilover shocks allows the suspension to get progressively stiffer during compression to avoid harsh bottom outs. Tabbing for bypasses and bump stops is standard on all of our long travel race kits. The long travel race kit provides the best off road performance compared to the other two suspension systems.

Don’t forget to factor in fiberglass fenders for the LT kits. I wasn’t afraid of the cost or width with the lt kit but fenders are a pitb. Nothing fits great and the paint and body work will cost you.

We're running your mid travel on our 2007 nnbs tahoe paired with fox 2.5 inches coilovers. Great kit and it's been on our tahoe for 5 yrs now.

How much better does it do down dirt roads? I got a lift and upper arms but stock struts/shocks and it’s super freakin bumpy. Just not sure if $2000 in shocks is gonna be worth it

@@Lexidezi225 there is a very noticeable increase in off road handling from factory shocks to 2.5" shocks. If for any reason you don't like the ride quality or ride height on the 2.5 shocks the valving or preload can be adjusted to your preference.

it would be nice to add the Hours require to a experienced tech to install these kit. even having a ball park amount of what clients usually pay for a full kit with/without installations. these are some of the nicest kits available and hope you make even more complete kits with all body work(fiberwerk panels perhaps?) included in a packages.

Do you offer a mid travel kit that pairs a set of coil overs that take all the guess work out of it? I want the extra travel and idk what coil over to pair with it on your site. I’m not extreme off roading but I want to be able to go as fast as possible down dirt and gravel roads and moderate trails as fast as possible. I’m also thinking about doing the Seaver springs in the back with a shock y’all recommend. I don’t tow but I want a smooth soft ride for these horrible roads in the south and going through the forest’s

So he says the long travel uses an 8 inch coilover, if i have a 6inch coilover with a lift would that work?

Unfortunately, that will not work. Our long travel kits are designed around the factory pivots and a long travel spec shock. You wouldn't be able to mix the two as it changes the geometry and causes issues once the suspension cycles.

@dirtking so I pretty much can't do anything with the 6in rough country lift on my f150. When i got the lift, over 2 years ago, I didn't think or know I was gonna care about ride quality and travel but times have changed. Not sure how to go about this now that the frame is cut. I'd like to use what I got and save money but it is what it is. Send help

@@phonicbeast302 As far as performance out of a drop bracket lift, there's only so much you can get out of it. It's more designed for getting clearance from the body to allow for a larger tire. It retains the factory geometry by relocating everything downward. That is correct, you'll need to reinstall the factory cross-member if it was cut out. That would be your bet. Yes but the need to be our long travel spec shocks that are designed for the long travel kit. The standard OE replacement 2.5 shocks are not compatible with the long travel kits.

Yes it's possible but there is A LOT of trimming to make them fit. Even with all the trimming there will still be tire contract at full compression in the front.

No you won't be able to run after market trac bars with the rear long travel because it will cause the suspension to bind. We've seen people try to do this in the past and it blows out the bushings.

I had dirty hooker build me a set about a year ago but have since invested in other mods bunch of stuff from fiberwerx kinda want what you don’t see often in my neck of the woods.

All that beautiful fabrication yet no cover for the exposed ecm/tcm down by the tire, those being exposed like that over time seems problematic to me with all the dirt/sand that is going to be packed in there while offroad racing. Or maybe a harness extension to move them up out of the way would be better idk...

You can also replace that limiting strap with a triple bypass shock It is set up for dual shocks.. I'm actually adding that next month to my total chaos. 2.5 long travel. Update. I made this comment before I finished watching the video like the jackass that I am🫏
