Slight correction, the patch notes say "base damage scaling" which refers to proration, chaos' shot for example had overall damage scaling reduced. The wording in the patch is somewhat confusing, but towards the beginning of the patches they said they wanted to reduce the damage on combos that start with "moves with forward momentum." Kou combos not beginning with one of these attacks will do the same as before.

With the removal of counterhit on nagiha, Anji no longer gets a hard knockdown on it. Pair this with the removal of the hard knockdown on kou back in season 2, Anji's main form of reliably getting one other than throwing his opponent is using the new "midare" move. Just some food for thought.

I have heard fujin actually does counter but that it just doesn’t slow down anymore And seeing that the counter sound and the word still appears in the video at 2:30 i would like it of you maybe test it and either confirm or deconfirm this

It still counter hits yes, any counter hit gives the counter indicator however it doesn't have any unique hit stun or bonus damage properties anymore meaning that it has minimal impact over a normal hit.

On huge flaw of the spin was that it kind of freeze the character hitting him BUT if there was a projectile hitting Anji as he spinned, the enemy itself wouldn't be frozen so it was only bad for Anji with a 10 frames recovery spin that did worse than blocking the projectile. Now with Midare you can at least use it if the enemy attempt something or just wait. The change on spin is HUGE with that.

Having weirdly chosen the Anji way ever since early season 1, and having kept up with him ever since, I'm more than pleased with his changes. Midare is truly fantastic and fixes in my opinion most of his most blatant flaws in one sweep. This is certainly the best of times to pick Anji on Strive. And even more than Midare, I'm glad to see you back here Klaige. Your videos helped me a lot on early Strive, and I'm sure they will continue to help me a lot. I wish you the best, and that your new work plans will work out for you. (I also hope these Strive changes (overall mechanics and Anji one) will make you happy to be back on Strive and that it won't be the hassle it seemed to be for you when you dropped it.

18:30 they only nerfed the startup invul on the 3 H DP's in the game (Sol, Ky, and Leo). Every other meterless DP in the game can beat Midare in this particular situation, so you will have to be worried about it against them... but it's so much better than the PRC situation previously

The hop buff now allows for grounded CH 6P, Fuujin, Hop, c.S (into a bit more after that). So it acts as a buff to 6p.

Im about 3:13 in, is there a trick to getting the jumping d after kou to come out? It is the least consistent ability when i get for it and I wonder if theres a trick used to ensure i get to smack someone with an umbrella? Thanks for the break down

It's mostly about getting them at the right height. you often need to slightly charge kou to get the right spacing.

@@Kollider115 make sure you're not holding 4 or 6 because yes that'll give air throw. Theres a delay before you can get j.d to come out after the 2nd hit of kou so just experiment with the timing.

I think he's still much better suited to being a keep out/reactionary character in +R, but the tools are definitely better than they were before season 3. In general I think it's hard to play a purely defensive style for most of the cast in Strive. Too many good pokes and ways to close ground in neutral.

Right now if they have 50% meter and are consistently showing you can they do the Fast PRC backdash escape that would be a time to hold off. The other is if you autoguard something at really far range where Midare simply won't reach, whiffing it is really bad.

Admittedly, even with the addition of Midare, I think Anji is less fun than ever now, Fuujin was really fun to get combos off of, and now those combos just can't happen without RC. This isn't talking about his viability, this is more about the fun of his playstyle. I understand that the change was universal, but I think the change affects Anji more than anyone else, considering Fuujin was such a major part of his kit.

Can't say I fully agree. Fuujin is still a huge part of pressure and controlling the opponent. Yea maybe you don't get an easy big confirm on CH anymore but he's not praying for fuujin to carry him, and that's a welcome improvement to his gameplan. Give it some time to flesh out with the new mechanics. I think this version will be more fun than ever before tbh.
