Well friends. This is the video that the comments section has been requesting. I had both consoles in my shop so I figured that I would make a quick video showing the differences between the Midas M32C and the Presonus StudioLive 24R. I sadly sold my 24R, so I wanted to make this video before it went to a new home.

You can do individual routing on the ins and outs on the M32 via the User settings. You can choose 1) AES50 1 - (2) Local 2 (3) Card (USB or Waves or whatever is in the card) 3, etc. Same as outs. Just requires more work in the background but can still achieve a 1 to 1 patch of however you want.

Been thinking of switching from my Behringer XR18(and use it in studio) and I am on the fence about it, more inputs, better preamps, better UI, I just need to be convinced lol. Love the video updates, and reviews!

I am actually looking at a Behringer . It also uses the AES50 networking so I can use Behringer or Midas boxes with the system. At the same time I am looking at the Yamaha systems. Their base line digital will provide a good balance for novice and experienced users. I personally prefer the analog style as everything is at your fingertips, no menus required.

great video, i also work with x32 rack and ipad since the beginnign. Only one note: it seems you don't have the firmware update (i think it's version 4) where they added the custom "user routing"

i use both mixers and i can say for a fact that the flexibility of the Presonus is super friendly. and the fact that you can build in-ears without any addtional gear is super cool. it can literally do what ever you can think of doing. sounds great. and the matrix mixes are very good. you get all the channel including main left and rigth mix plus all effects. i mean you can build a whole different mix for broadcast or in-ears for band members plus band members can do their own in-ear mix over the app with ease ones you assign them to their individual aux or matrix without any additonal gear. and like you said the routing is super cool. also multitracking and virtual sound check playback is very easy with capture.

Yup, I was one of those who asked!!!! LOL!!! Finally went with the M32C/DL32 combo. It's all setup and can't wait to use it at our first gig in 2 weeks. Thanks for all your videos, really cool stuff and keep them coming (especially anything you can offer on the Midas package!).

You are going to love that 32c. I got one for our band and I love it. I had a mr18 originally. it burnt up after 2 weeks. So I tried that sound craft Ui24 and that had some neat features. I loved the functionality of the noise gate and compression part. But the Soundcraft just didnt sound good and to get anything done ya had to make a million moves. Also hooking the 32c to a laptop to track in a DAW is awesome as heck and the 2 track option to boot is killer too. The EQ, and other effects are nice as well. Oh, one thing if you use a tablet like a I pad pro, the tablet app is nice and easy to use, and if you use a laptop like I do. The M32 edit app, has all the extra features that the tablets dont have like presets and stuff. I have had it 2 months and with the time I have I am still learning new things about it. But it is worth every penny so far. Been trying new things and so on. Now im working on assinging mix buses and other detailed things with assigning channels and effects. You wont be disappointed.

I have this exact rig for sometime now and love it. I put a Cymatic UTrack card in the expansion slot so I can mic every single thing on stage and record the whole show, no computer needed. just a hard drive. Later I go back and import the tracks to my DAW(Logic) and mix away! I can't stress enough don't put all your faith in the iPad or whatever at gig time, glitches happen with the router on occasion and that can be a show stopper. So I got a Behringer X Touch and hardwire that to the router and it has saved the day a few times. Backup Backup Backup!

I have the M32C that I run from the stage, while I'm playing guitar/keys and singing. Once we set it up, it's good to go at any venue with a bit of EQ. I paired it with the X-Touch compact and I have a great way to get super quick mix changes between hitting chords on the guitar. It's a great system, but as you say, the routing is a pig.

Have you used a Midas MR18? I mix live bands ONLY. The MR18 was always my choice until I started working with a couple bands that needed more than 16 ins and 6 outs. The $ step up to the M32C was more than I'd hoped. I do love it and enjoy 1) no snake 2) no moving parts. I use a windows laptop.

I'm considering using one of these for a home studio setup with multiple drum machines and hardware synths. I'm wondering if the audio quality up to it or the latency via USB. I noticed the Midas has ADAT outputs but no inputs. If I found the drivers problematic or not low enough latency would I be able to use something like an RME digiface audio interface and use the M32 to expand its inputs.

The Studio Live has many EQ types doesn't it? Neve, Pultech ect. I have the 16R. It looks like a bigger IPAD would help you a lot. I think the Neve EQ and all of the compressors sound really good. Don't like the reverb and it has latency even with DSP.

Unless something has changed very recently with Motu, Presonus AVB does NOT talk to Motu AVB. Motu is very good, but it also very proprietary. It is a closed ecosystem. I actually have both as the Motu AVB is a much smaller footprint for my solo electronic percussion rig. It works awesome. When I gig with my complete acoustic percussion rig where I have 10-15 inputs I use my 24R. When I gig with my dance band, we have a 32SC and my 24R becomes a stage box with a single RJ45 connection. Other than the size, I love the flexibility that Presonus brings.

AVB protocol is designed to work between manufacturers. MOTU and Presonus play nicely together. I have a few videos on this topic. Here is one as an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5PPppZui82cj7s

@@agasetyo try using a different router. If you are using an older model it may be causing this issue. Also, try using different frequencies 2.5 / 5 and see if that helps.

With the X-Live Card in the M32(C) you can do virtual soundcheck (and recordings of course) too. Btw. I'm a huge fan of the X/M32 series. In combination with a waves setup, you're about to take this console to a whole other level. (my pref. combo is a m32c/x32rack with an x-wsg card + waves proton duo (9,5" mountable server & host pc in one spacing) ) -> get smaart and tract on there and you have your system processor onboard aswell.

Ha! It certainly does have additional tactical advantages! I do keep a long pinky and thumb nail for separating twisted pair wiring, specially Starquad and network cable. I also occasionally noodle on the guitar which is why my nails are only long on my right hand.

Using a Presonus Studiolive 16R AND Behringer X32 Rack / Midas M32R and here are 2 things i HATE about the Presonus : - the EQ on the app is way too small and you risk doing bad moves and creating feedback with this I wish i could use Mixing Station with this ! - you can't use the software offline to prep your shows, which is a huge no no 2 huge dealbreakers for me. I hate the routing menus on the Behringer/Midas, but this is no big deal compared to the 2 shitty Presonus things listed above.
@jouebien
@jouebien 10 ай бұрын
The X32/M32 has 1:1 routing - you use the user routing layers. The routing on the X32/M32 is so much better on the desktop x-edit/m-edit app. Do yourself a massive favour and stop doing the routing on the console or the tablet app. It's not you, the app for the SL3 platform is hot garbage. Which would not be such an issue if the SL3 planform was OSC compliant (or at the verry least had proper midi control) so it could be controlled by Mixing Station. Your not the only one who can't remember how to set up a matrix - I have that same problem. It's under the flex bus settings. Yep there's no dedicated matrix on the SL3 planform so you have to burn one of 16 flex buses.

Actuall one big error he makes here is that he claims Only Midas Uses AES50 and AVB connects to alot of things.. This is false, Midas and Behringer use AES50, Prosonus on the other hand is the only one using AVB, while the moto company makes converters to work with AES50 and Dante. Dante is today the most common and the most expensive system being used, as it will do more than just networking audio.
@billylaguardia
@billylaguardia Жыл бұрын
Midas and Behringer are the same company, AES50 is their protocol. AVB is a more open platform. Presonus, MOTU and Avid all use AVB as their digital protocol. Dante is a walled garden. Manufacturers using Dante have to play with Dante’s rules and its licensing requirements which are more strict.
@chrish7336
@chrish7336 Жыл бұрын
@@billylaguardia While I have never heard of Avid, a semi quick search into their product shows more Software and Computer Interfaces than actual mixers. Likewise, Motu is more known for its converters than its mixers. While you are correct Dante is more strict it also has more options outside of sound, lighting, video etc all through the same network. In looking at various brands I have found more that support AES50 and Dante, then AVB. For how old the AVB protocol is, it should be much more advanced, but it really didn't make it mainstream, not just my perception but per music industry writers as well. For me I don't care what protocol I am using if the system works. Open source programming like AVB and even AES50, have been a game changer to the audio industry, its just to bad not all devices have an open source option built in.
@pauldunaway5113
@pauldunaway5113 Жыл бұрын
There is also the issue of buffering during transport. DANTE buffers INDIVIDUAL streams potentially creating phase issues between the streams. AVB shares the buffering across all the streams evenly resulting in phase aligned streams.
