That was a splendid lesson. It seems as though midazolam is used by anesthesiologists to calm anxious patients. My problem with this medication is the hangover when folks wake up. It is as though they're drunk. As if getting over the propofol was terrible enough, they must deal with ataxia and nausea.

yes it is used for anxiety. you dont need any midazolam do pull out your teeth. its enough with just numbness. im promise you every one.

We have got the 5mg/ml concentration in germany we use that for the MAD Atomizer when breaking through seizures. It comes in a 15mg/3ml Ampule

Thank you for this excellent video! My daughter has high anxiety due to autism and, thus medical procedures have always been a challenge as a result. She needs to have several teeth extracted and the dentist has recommended versed via oral syrup. I have two questions: 1. Will this truly make her sedated enough to prevent her from resisting during the extraction and not feeling pain? 2. Is there any risk of major adverse events such as permanent neurological damage and/or death? I know that sounds extreme but the paperwork lists these as things that we must sign to agree to as possibilities. Thank you very much!

Has an EGD Fentanyl/ Midazolam anesthesia. Had a serious bought of amnesia for 24hrs. Talked with the nurses administering medication and their thoughts were my body didn’t metabolize the midazolam as quickly as it should. This medical facility uses Fentanyl/ midazolam instead of profanal. I understand that profanal has a half life that is half of midazolam. I’ve had several procedures with profanal anesthesia and always recovered quickly without complications. Is there a benefit of midazolam for a 15min procedure? My liver test have always been good.

One of our pulmonologist hates this medication. Wants us to use it only as a last resort. First resort usually being fent and prop. He said it’s takes forever to get out of the patients system. I was thinking he said kidneys from your vid looks like the liver. Any insight?

He is exactly right. Especially high doses of versed for extended periods. It can take a while to fully clear from it. But to your question, it is metabolized by the liver into active metabolites and then those are excreted via the kidneys.

I just haven't personally seen it used much. Typically for benzos we use diazepam or lorazepam as they are longer acting.

We just have a patient yesterday is intubated on versed drip for status epilepticus and we are almost max to 2mg/kg/hr so we almost 100mg per hour and she is still having seizures.the drip was run out so fast in half hour even the max concentration. What else can we do?

Yikes thats a lot! I don't think I've seen it that high! Honestly when the benzo gtt doesn't seem to do the trick, then pentobarbital coma with continuous EEG and burst suppression is what I've typically seen.
