A second after the lure hit the water this Longtail Tuna exploded on the surface! Briggsy had just enough time to flip his bail arm before the fish took off. Such a chaotic fight but so fun as well in the crystal clear tropical water!

+Robert Perez Hi Bro, We use Dunlop Volleys kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnPTqZSdrbxrm7s They aren't perfect but they're the best we've tried (soft soles that grip well as long as it's not a completely slick smooth wet rock...). You should also note they don't last very long and become less grippy over time but they're cheap (like $20 - $30AUD) so all things considered they're a decent shoe for what we do. Stoked you dig the films mate!

+ignition. Yeah it's a pretty epic reel! I've got it on the old demon blood (no coin left over to upgrade rod as well haha) and the other rods we had were getting wind knots with it, i think because of the distance between the reel seat and the first guide. Line is 40lb (breaks at 59lb) Tasline and it felt like i got about 800m-900m on there! So now on a massive hook up I can just sit back and chill on a lighter drag setting and not worry about popping knots, pulling hooks or bending them out like would always happen in the past!

Hi mate, it's funny because the bigger the business grows the less time we seem to have for fishing! haha But it is our 'off season' last few months and we are heading into our big trip time. Over the off season we've made a 3 hour long DVD that we'll release in just a few weeks (it's about the techniques we use off the rocks). So while it's been a bit quiet we'll have lots of new stuff coming towards the end of the year!

Thanks for the reply mate. Anyway it is so pretty and so far from us. May be I dream about that coz we are in WA. :) Here if we are lucky we catch big stingrays and rare Snappers in Metro beach. But definitely no Tuna. Up north is more diverse. Come here to fish sometimes.

Hi fellas, love the videos you have made so far, I'm an east coast angler ranging from the north coast near Ballina to as far south as Lakes Entrance VIC. recently ive started to focus my efforts on land based game but I've struggled to attain knowledge of the seasons in which the large pelagics roam the coastlines? i wish to target tuna, mackeral and cobia. currently based near Wollongong i would love to see a quick video from you guys outlining the seasons that these fish are present. i respect the fact that locations are kept secret as i have the same opinion. keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
@MorningTideFishing
@MorningTideFishing 8 жыл бұрын
+Rhys Wilkinson It's not the same as location but it's similar, so instead of straight up telling you I'm instead going to give you the tools to learn it for your self, which will be more beneficial in the long run for you anyway. Up and down the coast read local fishing clubs' facebook pages or local tackle stores facebooks. Also forums have 'fishing reports' that give away loads of info. Each season you will be able to follow the fish so to speak, as they travel up and down the coast. Fishermen love to talk about what they catch so all you need to do is tap into the places where they're sharing this info. This becomes really powerful when you can find a resource that is back dated, for example a fishing clubs' facebook page. You can go back through their photos and look at the upload dates (this is one of the main ways i'll sus out a new area). What ever they're getting in the boats you can try for off the stones. The next thing to do is check the what the water temperature was doing in those past years and see if a fish species showing up in an area coincides with a specific water temperature and also the shape of the mixing water temps... Here's a big hint for you, look for the massive plume of warm that comes down the coast each summer. The front of this warm water mixing with the cold has a high numbers of fish and if you can time a spin just as it's coming past your area you'll have a good chance of a hook up. Another thing to note is no two years are the same... Some years there is pelagics everywhere right in front of the rocks, others everything seems to stay out a bit wider and you'll get way fewer hook ups (this happens more when we've had loads of rain and the water in close is cold and brown where as maybe 500m-1000m out it's warm and blue... You'll see a big current line of the mixing water in this case). Some years it all happens in one specific month and then shuts down, others it's good for four months straight. The timing can vary a lot so don't blindly spin because it's January and there's meant to be a fish in an area right now, instead research and stay up to date using the techniques outlined above ^ and you'll be able to pin point this years run of pelagics with much more accuracy then going off "this month is spanish this month longtails, etc etc. A final thing to think about is you can always go out for a spin and connect with good fish as long as you change target species. If you're checking the reports and they're not getting any Spanish but they are getting Kingies and Mulloway there is no reason not to go out and have a crack at them! I'm still yet to land a good king but some of my biggest hook ups have been +++size kings that just destroyed me. To be honest I'd be more stoked with a 40kg king off the rocks then a 40kg spanish! Hope this helps you out mate, it's a great question for a film but we head off on another trip in four days so won't have time to make it for a while.

@MorningTideFishing
@MorningTideFishing 8 жыл бұрын
+FishingWithGeorge First thing's first you should look at the way you interact with your fish and strive to give them the utmost respect. As your channel grows you'll have more and more influence over people including the malleable younger generation of fishermen. You will have a great opportunity to promote catch and release to your followers. I know it's not common practise to even think about these things when fishing, we weren't raise to care and fully understand why most people ask us stuff like "why do you release the fish". I can see you are still young enough to be influenced by the way your family and friends fish, you are yet to go out and shape your own ideals and in turn chose how you want to interact with the ocean. So it's totally normal and understandable you fish the way you do (we were very similar to you at your age). For us after decades of surfing, fishing and free diving we feel it's intrinsic for the sports futures (and that of the whole Sea), that we unite as a new generation of fishermen who put the environment above everything. We as entertainers have a opportunity and a responsibility to set a strong example to all fishermen, so that they take an extra second to think about how they are going to treat their catch and decide if they really need to keep it or instead release and just enjoy the experience. So my number one tip is start to release fish. The rest below is something i wrote up for a young fisherman from Australia who is starting out making his own films. I'll paste it here for you and anyone else who might be interested, it's a bit of a long read but has some pretty valuable information.
@MorningTideFishing
@MorningTideFishing 8 жыл бұрын
+FishingWithGeorge " SHARES... This is how you get your work out there and it's almost like the currency of social media. So how do you get shared? The easiest way is content... The saying "content is king" is very true but people throw this around with out really understanding why it's so important. I mean sure you can imagine a film where you land a 25cm Bream is going to get less views then a 25kg Tuna, but why? It's basically because everyone has completely lost their attention span when it comes to Media. I distinctly remember a shift in facebook where our news feeds changed from pictures of our mates doing stuff in their personal lives to random stuff getting shared that has nothing to do with their personal lives. This has grown to the point where its rare to see a picture or a status that actually comes from our mates, the news feed is basically over 80% shares now days. Which means we are exposed to a high amount of varied content but the one thing that is constant is they are viral posts. We've been bombarded by 100s to 1000s of 'viral' films and photos every day for the last three or four years and it's ruined our attention span. An example of how bad this is... With the statistics on our vids we can see how long someone stuck around and watched our clip, Now even on our very best posts (50k views in one day) 25% of people stop watching the film after 15 seconds. 30seconds another 25% gone, 1min another 25% gone. It keeps getting less and less until you're left with 1-3% who watch the full film. This does my head in because of the amount of effort we put into our work but it's just the state of social media and we need understand how and why it's like this so that we can adapt and use it to our advantage. One way to help you understand it is look at the way someone uses face book (like literally watch people, your mum, dad, sis, bro, mates, who ever you can. Watch them use facebook and you'll see how they react to different posts in the news feed). The basic user will quickly scroll down the feed randomly stopping on shares that 'grab' them. they might watch a vid for a few seconds then skip it, move down and read a little bit, then see a vid they really like and turn the sound on and watch it for maybe 30 seconds maybe more... If the vid blows them completely out of the water they will keep watching but its not enough to just grab them for a bit at the start it needs to have a pace to it that keeps their attention and reengages with them frequently. So how does this apply to the saying "content is king" ? Basically if you have amazing content (in fishing terms a vid where your hooked up to a marlin and you dive in to land it just as shark flys in and tares it apart in front of you). If you have this you don't need to do anything. Fishermen and non fishermen a like will share the crap out of it and you have 100million views with in a month. If you don't have that vid you need to maximize the content you do have to cater for peoples lack of attention span and the over saturation of viral content out there. "

+FishingWithGeorge " What to do while filming... Gopro settings You should switch your camera to Pal if you haven't already. In Australia we use PAL which is 25fps as opposed to USA who use NTSC which is 30fps. It might seem weird to have to change that but it's good practice to use the frame rate of the country you're from. We shoot on superview 1080p, 50fps. Note the 50fps will let you slow down footage by 50% to 25fps (It's just half speed but better then nothing for slow mo bits). Gopro Lighting Gopros love sun rise and sun set. Wipe the screen We still struggle with this one.. It only takes a second to check the screen for salt/smears or fog on the inside of the case but definitely try and make it part of the routine when you first turn on the camera. Move Keep the camera moving. If your filming walk around and pretend to fly the camera like it's a helicopter (not too crazy though, you could definitely over do this). If you think of it like it can never hold still (except for a time lapse) you will have much more interesting footage from the get go. Angle This goes hand in hand with movement but try and get cool angles on the fish or the person. Don't just settle for holding it straight at them at chest height. Get right down low and way up high. Get a pole for the gopro and stick it under the water while someones landing the fish and while releasing. Try heaps of different things and watch them back, you'll get a feel for what works well. Blow up Don't be afraid to be overly animated on camera. They say what ever energy level you have in real life will be halved when watching the footage back. So if you get a good fish let the world know and froth up! (while staying focused on treating the fish well and getting a quick, clean release). Swearing Try not to swear on your films. We have started getting serious about this because some of the biggest fishing share sites like 'salt strong' and 'sport fishing magazine' don't like it. They have families who follow their posts and have not shared our films in the past because we were swearing to much. "

+FishingWithGeorge " What to do while Editing SONG The song basically determines the feel of the whole edit. So chose wisely and try to get an idea of what the feeling will be with each different track your looking at using. The way someone is influenced emotionally by watching the film depends a lot on the song so while this is pretty tech stuff to think about it's good for you to start being aware of the way a song affects not only the people watching but also your whole editing process. The pace of the song will control the pace of your edit. Cut on the beat You should be able to expand the view on any audio track in your editing software. Do this to your music track and when you want to make a cut make sure it's right on the beat (this is prolly the #1 most important thing in editing) Find the build up and 'drop' of the track Play the song through and have an idea of where it builds up and where the beat drops. You'll prolly notice with most of my edits the structure is very similar. I build the clip up to one or multiple big action parts and just as the 'beat drops' I have the fish landed or the drag screaming etc. What ever the best part of my content is i'll time it to coincide with the best (biggest) part of the song. Everything else is building upto that point. Keep it short 1 to 5 min is a good length for a film now days. Use the best of the best If you have footage of landing 3 fish and with 2 of them the light's a bit to dark but with one the sun has just coming up perfectly and the fish looks amazing, use this one! But ONLY this one. So forget the other two and focus on the better footage. Rough it out A good way to work is rough out the whole edit really quick with out adding to many cuts so you can start to get an idea of how the film feels as a whole. At this stage use 'broad strokes' to shape your work. Cut whole sections out to replace them with totally different clips/ideas. This is the time to test how different bits of footage flow together and just play with the edit in an overall style approach. Once you're happy with the overall feel start refining and adding the details. Find the action On any given clip i'm editing i'll scroll threw and find parts of the clip that pop out to me. Like if the camera just happens to come up towards the reel as the drags peeling off and then pan around to the side i'll use this over a static shot of the drag peeling. This also applies to shots of the fish etc. So if you've got some underwater footage say and the fish is just on it's side doing nothing i wouldn't use this, instead i'll look for the bit where it's fighting hard and creating some interesting eye catching movement. Take your time Don't rush your work... make it perfect. Keep refining and refining. Really take your time to be happy with it (an example is our latest film took me about 30 hours to write the song, and 80+ hours on the edit (And i'm not slow at either!)). Be critical If something's not working cut it. Sometimes you will have an emotional attachment or ego style thing going on (like say it's the only fish you got on a trip but it's pretty crap footage because the screen was foggy or camera tilted down to far) you just have to let go and cut it. Let others be critical Get your mates to watch it before you release it and ask them 'what they like about it' and then 'what they don't like about it'. Remember you might be getting pretty good at filming/editing but everyone is already a professional social media user... Take their criticism and use it to improve your work. "

+FishingWithGeorge " KZbin vs Facebook I don't know if you have a youtube account yet but I'll just outline the difference between the two. You can upload films to each and people react differently... KZbin is basically a video library, you upload a film and people will be able to search for that forever. YT is higher quality then FB (especially audio). YT will pay you for your work if you get enough views. Facebook (in relation to Film) is a Viral sharing site where you upload a film and it's life on the Internet is directly related to SHARES. Get heaps of shares and your video will blow up don't get any and it will disappear pretty quick. Facebook films will auto play in peoples news feeds where as YT wont Facebook films people will share more readily as opposed to YT (possibly because of the auto play) To keep it simple If you have some crazy content of a crocodile eating a barra your about to land and then it misses the fish and tries to eat you instead but your mate chucks a box jelly fish on its head, stings it's eye and it bails at the last second... if you have that footage upload it to KZbin and share that link on facebook (you will get millions of views and make some coin ($1000 per million views). If you have pretty good content but it needed some editing to get the most out of it upload it to facebook and get people to share it. Try and get bigger pages (like us) to share it (which we will if you have a clean C&R on a good fish). Each vid you upload that gets shared will gain you new fans and the more fans the more power you have. Conclusion People are like kids with ADHD now days and can't pay attention for more then a few seconds unless the content completely blows their minds. Which is becoming harder and harder to do because of an over abundance of varied and extremely high quality content. But that said if you put in some solid effort into your work and have your own style while keeping it short, sweet and action packed you will grow a following and people will share your stuff. I highly recommend creating a proper facebook fan page (where people 'like' it as opposed to become friends with you). It will be a lot easier down the road and it takes time to build a following so you might as well start now. Also if you do get shared by a bigger crew you'll want a proper fan page to get the most out of it. That was a fair bit to process ^^^ haha. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer them. But really the main thing is just do what you love doing! Use these tips to make the most of the footage you get but just have fun fishing with your mates while treating the fish with respect and the rest will fall into place! "
