I was told to use some gel when burying the rod and then to coat the rod with concrete. Is that absolutely necessary?

Great technique Billy! How well does it work in rocky soil? I think you'll find plenty of people would love to hear you explain some basics of electrical theory especially in regards to farming/homesteading. I know I would.😁

Planting Pioneers It’ll get around pebbles and gravel without a problem. In fact, they sometimes fly up the hole. In truly rocky soil you might have to employ a sledge hammer but I typically dig a trench 2’ deep and lay the ground rod sideways. In very dry and rocky soil several rods might even be necessary. You know...I think you’re right. I’ll have to do another video explaining the different scenarios.

I have lost count of how many ground rods I’ve put in, I can’t remember if we ever did this but a lot of places here in Ohio there’s a Lotta rock and you need a sledgehammer or an SDS Drill with the ground rod attachment, and in Indiana where they have lime stone you can’t even get them in the ground ha ha Ha

You almost had it totally right ! The rod should just drop down. No need to force it. Lift the rod out of the hole each time. This allows the water to enter. Keep adding water each time. Water lubricates and also helps with the hydraulics of the work. Very much like sex.....lub.and up and down !!!!!!!

@10mileroadie
@10mileroadie 3 жыл бұрын
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 guess what: I got it out! Did not have to buy a t-stake puller! I did a modified water trick, over a few days' time, twisted it some with a pipe wrench, drove a t-post next to it and moved it around, then put the ground wire clamp on tight. I used a t-post over a cinder block to leverage it and ease it out of the ground, moving the wire clamp down progressively! Lady farmer power! Thanks for the help!

@@miguelito2361 i pulled it out all by myself, after wetting the ground as this video suggested, then attaching the clamp securely and using a t post as a lever with a cinder block as the fulcrum! I was so proud of myself!

Yes, it'll take years and years for the soil to pack itself tight around that rod the way he did it. He's created a void.
@matthewbritzman6010
@matthewbritzman6010 3 жыл бұрын
This is very wrong ... you want the ground rod very tight in the dirt! By doing what you did , you are losing resistance in your grounding system . Making it weak and eventually WILL FAIL!

@nilpo
@nilpo 3 жыл бұрын
@@zvijer2960 That depends where you live. Down south where this video was probably made? Sure. The soil will soften. Try that up north in a glaciated region and it will never fill back in.
@flyingyakdeath

Actually you're increasing resistance. More contact area of dirt to rod decreases resistance which is the goal.
