On one hand this is almost no different than the Blackmagic camera converters which have been out for years and years now (so that makes this product less revolutionary), but the fact that it can handle 6G finally means 4K is an available option in this space. For that single reason, it is worthwhile. We've run fiber in this exact situation for years, and it's really the only way to go.
@JTHVideo

Out of curiosity, the Blackmagic fiber converters can do 12G with the correct transceivers. Why not do that?
@daltonrandall4348
@daltonrandall4348 Жыл бұрын
@@JTHVideo The biggest reason was that they handled our comms as well as have the bonus of doing SDI -> HDMI conversion, which is great for return feed program monitors for the camera ops. However, now that we are adding more wireless options, the comms thing is out the window so the camera converters are sadly becoming less and less relevant. The middle things approach with Opticalcon support is also a major plus.

These product are amazing, but just one question: why not everything in the back? I mean if you put the unite into the video switcher rack, and the MTP12 is in the back with all the SDI I/O, the MTP12 cable is in the back as the other cables so nothing in the front that can be in your way. Just my thought. I would prefer not to have any cable in the front, but maybe some monitoring screens? like signal and bitrate maybe. Or signal failover of one camera/cable or what else

The problem is that fiber is glass and the can be fragile especially if you are setting up, tearing down, being packed away. Cost is also a major factor. Ethernet (Cat5e, 6, 6a) is still the best option for using the network. Fiber can be used as the back back end.

This is great, I'd love to check this out. I'd love to run SDI (for my sony cameras) to a single breakout box and then have a single cable go to the control room. It looks like you've designed fiber to go from cameras to a box, to another box, then to the control room. I wish this was all in the same box. Great first attempt! Excited to see more in the future.
@Jonas-lo3kg
@Jonas-lo3kg Жыл бұрын
From what I understand you need only 1 Box in one Place, either you go: 1) Fiber Camera Box attached to Cameras -> Duo Fiber -> Fiber Bridge in Stagebox -> MTP Out or 2) Long SDI to Stagebox -> Fiber Unite in Stagebox -> MTP Out and convert with the Fiber Unite back to SDI in the Control Room

Great products! But can you also use two bridge 5’s as a stage racer? So one cable for 5 times SDI in and Out? Or do you need the smaller boxes to at the end to make the MTP12 into SDI?
@MiddleThings

You can actually use 2 Fiber Unite 5 together ! So basically : 5 SDI IN / OUT pairs -> MTP12 -> 5 SDI IN / OUT pairs

Great product, but I have one question. For someone like me who use PTZ cameras in my setup, I need to send and receive PTZ control and power to those cameras, and to achieve this, I use one ethernet(POE) cable . How would I go about that if I chose to buy your products like the box(5 of them) and one dispatch)?

It'd be amazing if we could figure out how to power the cameras with these cables as well then you don't have to fiddle with big old v mount batteries someday...

Great products! You can clearly see you guys do this on a frequent basis. Most of the gear that is designed around larger events have an incredibly large footprint which is not optimal for small - medium size events. My dream is to be able to send 2-3 video signals (camera & laptop) from the stage to FOH with 1-2 returns for a confidence monitor & LED wall as well as ethernet for internet, audio (dante, MADI or SLink) and lighting on a single piece of armored MTP fiber. I was disappointed that the newly announced Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter only comes with Ethernet and no SFP port. I know from reading forums and Reddit that other people feel that same way. Regarding the product that you announced, I have a few questions: 1) If you already have Black Magic Optical Fiber Converters, could you connect them to the Fiber Bridge? (Assuming you are down converting to 6G on either side and have the right SFP adapters) 2) Am I correct in assuming that you can use MTP fiber cassettes for the Dispatch if you already have them? 3) Are you able to send isolated video as an output on the Dispatch? I.e. You have 3 cameras sending video to your mixer and then use the last 2 inputs to return video for confidence monitors / projectors? I would really like to see a device that combines the Dispatch and Bridge into a single unit. Keep up the good work!
@MiddleThings
@MiddleThings Жыл бұрын
Hello Jared, Thanks for your kind words! Yes actually you can do exactly that. 1) Yes your existing Blackmagic optical fiber converters + Blackmagic SFP modules (6G) are fully compatible. 2) Yes if you already have an MTP12 type A cassette you can use it 3) Yes on the dispatch you have 5 different inputs and 5 different outputs. So 10 channels in total. And if you use the Fiber Unite, it will add LAN to the MTP12 fiber. Actually the Bridge and Dispatch are designed to be used as a single unit, just stack them on top of each other ! And custom patch with short LC LC cables.

so instead of 10 cables, you are stuck with 5 cables. That is not really a big win. The costs of these boxes are very expensive compared to what you gain. And you'll need to replace all your sdi cable with more fragile (at the connections) fiber cables. If you don't mind fragile you could also go for optical hdmi cables. It would also cut your cable amount in half at a fraction of the costs

nice, but how to deal with the Fiber Bridge 10 12G? There are no other components in your shop, that support the workflow with the 10 channel version. Maybe you should explain.
@letsplaychronicles9483
@letsplaychronicles9483 Жыл бұрын
ok, I found the solution. Of cause, you need two of the 12g Bridges and two dispatches at the receiver side.... is the network connection normal network so that I also can use dante?
@MiddleThings
@MiddleThings Жыл бұрын
Hello, yes exactly ! Or you can use two Unite 6G in the control room and two 5channel MTP12 cables ( instead of a single 10channel MTP24 ) this allows for a more flexible approach with 2 different stage boxes that can be positioned at different locations. The network is IP based so you can use Dante yes
