Love the vids, Sid! I’m working on the pancake, forward bend, forward splits so I can hold handstands longer and eventually do a press to handstand. Your videos have been a great help. I’m wondering, in days when you do deep stretching to improve your flexibility and mobility, do you then not do other strength or balance work on those days? Or how do you balance the two on typical days? (Pardon the pun.) I tend run out of endurance and strength for handstands if I spend a lot of time on stretching gains...
@sidpaulson14 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching man. I usually do flexibility/mobility at the beginning or end of a strength session if needed. Otherwise I would do it as a separate session on the same or another day. But it all could work technically. So it's mostly about finding a way that works for you. You can also do stretching of the opposite muscles you're training. So stretch lower body on upper body days etc.

hi Sid, when I stretch for the middle split all I feel is the tendon/ligament at the inner side of my knees. Is this what usually happens? Stretching them doesn't feel like other stretches, it feels a bit like I am stretching a thick wire that doesn't want to move
@sidpaulson14 жыл бұрын
Try changing foot placement, this can change the sensation of the stretch.

I find it a hell of a challenge playing hockey (goalie) and trying to get the splits. At the same time I'm trying to keep my cardio and strength training in check. Not an easy task. Been a total of 60 days if I can say I've been trying to get the splits front and side. Still not there yet and got hurt in Hockey 2 days ago.. Got hurt 4 months ish ago as well but with the goal of just slightly improving flexibility of my hips in general. Wish me luck and thanks for these tips. You are in my top 3 guys for these exercises.

Dear Sid, since a long time I watch your videos. They are pretty good and helpful. I don't know if gymnastics can do that, but could you produce a video for a leg hold? Beginner level? I can do a Split - middle and front, but I can't hold my leg in a standing position. I would love to get one of your perfect tutorials! Greetz Chris

Hello Sid, thanks for uploading so much great and helpful videos. The pancake - I just can do it because of your fantastic videos! I think, because of your professional way of being a gymnast, your tips are something special and more intense. I have got a question to oversplits. There are lots of videos about that, but the girls ca do that already perfectly and don't show the progress. When I do my feet on a bed or couch or anything else, my pelvic is at the same height. I can't bring it down to get my leg higher above. How can I get to this stadium? Perhaps you may help me again. Thank you so much. Chris

Can you please explain about PNF meaning ? and do you think sitting in squat daily for a few min, can help with middle split ? Thank you very much for all your teaching !
@sidpaulson14 жыл бұрын
I would just search PNF stretching on KZbin, there are several videos explaining the technique. I definitely think daily squatting could help with the middle split. Obviously not enough to get the split, but it can help in the beginning!

Whenever I try to do the middle split (with support) I immediately tense up to make sure I don’t slide to the point where it’s really uncomfortable and wayy too low. Any advice? How do I learn to relax? And not slide and then tense up.
@sidpaulson15 жыл бұрын
The best way is to get in to a setup where you don't need to worry about that. One way is to place something that you can almost 'sit' on in between your legs as you slide down, chose an object that is suitable to your flexibility!

Btw, I tried doing the exercisewith dumbbells instead of kettle bell but with 20 pounds. I was letting the weight push down on my thighs without resistance. Not a great idea. I felt a cluck, I was ok but still, dont do this like Tom kind of shows. Just my train of thought for the YT ers reading the comments.

As long as we use some common sense, we're good. Don't use too much weight, begin light, keep some tension for control.

@@sidpaulson1 yeah, that's what I did. But I'm also 34 and have gone through some injuries as years go by so maybe that's why. Maybe less sleep too since I have kids. Maybe I did lower body day à day or 2 ago, who knows, could be anything.

If you're not ready for this, then you most likely have some more general hip flexibility/mobility you need to work on first!
