First we need to look at how to build a good prompt.

When you want Midjourney to create images for you, you start with the imagine prompt.

Now a little sidetrack: a lot of creatives are terrified of this new type of intelligence, claiming that it will steal our jobs. Because who will need creatives, if you can just prompt a computer?

So, I don’t think professional creatives need to fear this type of tool.

There are 4 ingredients you need in your prompts for them to work to your advantage. First off you need the “style of”.

Then you need the “main idea”.

Then the artsy lingo and the details.

Let’s start with number two, because it’s the most obvious one. But this is also where most people are getting it wrong.

Now you might think that it’s about making longer prompt, then.

But’s lets start with telling Midjourney that I would like to create something that looks more like a comic book.

But, let’s just get another take on this… where I use an image as image source to create the image from.

Now for the remix settings. Because remix is a fairly new feature in Midjourney but it is essential to your work as it enables you to give feedback to midjourney and tweak your prompts.

So, I told you that Midjourney is weighing your words. And the first words in your prompt are the most important.

1. Therefore you need to first explain WHAT type of image you want. Is it comic book style, is it animation style, is it flat design and so on.

2. Next you want to convey your idea. What is happening in your image.

3. This is where your artsy lingo comes in. Is it a wide shot? Is it birds perspective? And so on.

4. And lastly there are the minor details and extra info you want to inform Midjourney about.That could be mentioning colors, aspect ratio, dimensions, test (for illustrations) or -test p (for photo realistic)

AlsoI want to add that I have seen very good results with the term “unreal engine” when I use it for my prompts. It seems to create something that looks a litle 3D-ish.

Also settings. For now try typing / settings and then click return. This will bring you to a small menu with buttons you can toggl on and off.

Then there is stylize. Also you probably want to try out this expression. Because this will prevent the bot from being too creative

Then there is --uplight. This uses a light upscaler when you upscale images.

Then there is the question of using Discord on your own page without all the noise from other people.

Regarding the fears over this technology taking away jobs - I agree with you. Most paying clients want a very specific design with precise details and they often want to have a back and forth conversation with their artist/designer so they can provide feedback and request tweaks. AI might get that robust at some point - but I don't see it happening in the near term. The control, eye for design, technique, and flexibility of a skilled artist is still leagues better for most commercial work. AI will become just another tool that savvy artists use to quickly iterate on ideas, and a meme generator for those who aren't artists. It's not going to put a lot of people out of jobs though - except for maybe stock photo models.

I’m looking forward to Midjourney becoming better with iterations and small changes. That’s bound to be a fast development!

Then I drag it into Discord - and the click on it - to open it in a new browser tab. Then copy the URL - and insert that into a prompt. Hi @Grapfy - I'll see if I can squeeze it into one of my next videos. But it's really simple. You just go into Discord. Then you create your own server - by click the + button. Make a server. Then go into Midjourney. Click on the bot - and invite into your server. That's it.

Hmm… I think with v4 and a lot of iterations it’s possible. Otherwise you might want to try to bring your image into Stable diffusion - and do img2img in there and fix it up. Might work better.

So I can switch between English and Danish on my keyboard (from my computer and on my phone). Here you need to make sure that you're typing in English. Because Midjourney can only understand English words. Apart from that I've never had any problems with the letters. So I hope this helps. And not how to help you any other way.

Thanks for asking @mikaelsons - well for that to work, the engine has to know you. As of yet you cannot train Midjourney the way you train Stable Diffusion. But you can use img2img and then use two photos of your self. That should work. 🙌

Hahahaha! Actually it doesn’t always. Not in my try outs. Depends on the prompts. If you prompt a samurai for example - the images are Asian inspired. But most of the prompts for comic book characters end up Caucasian looking…

I personally use stable diffusion with an anime style model and in anime, pretty much all the eyes look "Caucasian" which makes it really hilarious because when they introduce "western" characters, they end up looking the exact same as all the other characters. So all you have to go off of is skin color. And it just so happens asians can be a lighter skin tone than "white" people so it can get kinda confusing on who is white vs who is asian.

Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate your sharing your views. I’ve discussed this and asked a lot of people working with copyrights and copyright laws both in my own country and internationally. The answer is the same. You cannot copyright a style or a way of drawing, thankfully. Because if you could - none of us would be allowed to draw anything that looked like Disney or Pixar for example. When people create a painting that is “inspired by Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” it’s quite alright. But if a prompt artist does the same, it’s not? You can create the same outcome in Midjourney or Stable Diffusion without doing a style reference to an artist. It’s just a longer prompt. What happens when we create a prompt with style reference is that the AI looks through all its vectors of that artist too - along side with the rest of the vectors in your prompt. If you on the other hand create a prompt describing the style (without artist names) it takes all vectors with line art or comic book art (or what ever you prompted for). In the end the result will look pretty similar - (but with a larger reference base). You won’t be able to tell it apart. It just more work with the same outcome.
