Want to know how the Midjourney seed command works?
One of the things a lot of newbies struggle with in Midjourney is the ability to maintain relatively consistent outcomes with their prompts.
By default, Midjourney adds a lot of randomness to its images which can be a challenge if you're aiming for a very specific result.

There is a movement that can be used in V4 and it is when you put seed and a specific number after the result is released the same operation can be repeated but by changing the text or adding text to the previous text with the seed mode that you put previously results will appear similar to the previous one, I may have explained this in your clips but I may not have reached it, in general thank you for your effort we are with you.

However, if you use this method the next day it won't work. You need to use the same seed within a very short time to get the same results. They must randomise the seed numbers over time too.

Technically, using the same seed isn't supposed to return the exact same image anyway. It's only meant to produce more consistently "similar" compositions. It's also very possible that Midjourney uses additional inputs to increase the randomness, such as the current date. So, for example, using the same seed may produce very similar results on the same day, but 1 day later it might change. Though this is just a guess. Either way, it's difficult for me to judge without having seen your prompts and images.

@@TokenizedAI I've been using MJ for quite a while now and think they probably randomise a variety of functionality over time as each day, using the same prompt and style and/or artist I get very different results. Which is both good and bad depending on what your end goal is. I'd really like them to have some form of in-and out-painting available like Dall E2. Whatever, for me at least, I find MJ to be head and shoulders above all the other services. They somehow have been able to algorithmise (sic) the entire concept of what we call 'art' like no one else before. Whether or not your prompts produce what you specifically want there's no denying virtually every piece of work it produces has an impossibly high content of 'art'. It's an absolutely enormous achievement and all that work for MJ should be immensely proud of what they've produced...

At the moment, if I need to edit something from a MJ image, I actually do it in DALL-E 2 and then I use an AI upscaler to get a larger version of it. I'm sure they are working on adding this capability to MJ, but I think getting the UI/UX right is a pretty difficult task. Especially from within Discord.

Thx for this very useful information on how to use these parameters. The seed paramter can be viewed on one's personal Midjourney homepage, too, where all the jobs are available. And "sameseed" seems to be incompatible with version 4 and 5 of Midjourney.

Good question. Yes, you could go back in your chat an work on it from there. But let's say you want to change something about the prompt and still use the original seed. If you go back in the chat, you can only do that with Remix mode. But Remix mode is known to be quite unreliable. So this gives people the opportunity to simply create a new set of variations with the adjusted prompt. At least in theory.

Good question, don't think so, because --seed primarily controls the composition from what I can tell. You may want to look at how the --chaos parameter works. Low chaos values might help. And you can potentially control the style by providing an image prompt that contains the style you want.

I don't think Midjourney is currently able to create words or typography that actually makes any sense. The AI model is just trying to create something that "look like" text, but it can't actually create specific sentences or words.

Hmm, difficult to say without knowing a bit more about what exactly you'll talk about in your new channel. How exactly to do plan on using Midjourney? Is you objective to use MJ to create illustrations for actual stories that you tell in your videos?

Great vid. Even when I use the same seed, MJ adds an additional -s 50 to the image which creates additional changes. Change your setting to the medium level. That should apply a stylize value of 100 (if you're using v4), which is the default.

You can, but NOT in v5 because v5 does not have a real upscaler yet. Many people are asking this because they don't understand what's happening in the background.

From what I've heard, your client would probably get a different image. It seems that MJ uses additional inputs (possibly the current date, maybe even your user ID) to randomize the results. So while it way work on the same day, it's unlikely it'll work the same way on the next. --sameseed, unlike --seed, will ensure that all 4 variations are very similar to eachother. It kind of depends on what your objective is.

I tend to agree. I think the MJ doesn't actually want everything to be 100% reproducible to the tee. --seed is primarily meant to provide the creator with more consistency while working on a prompt. Your particular use case probably isn't within their scope.

There is none. However, if you like an image's composition, but want to make some smaller changes to the prompt, then setting the same seed to help you maintain that composition.

The whole prompt along with the seed will be like a token for that particular image. This will allow you to own a particular prompt like an NFT. I see what you mean. You're probably trying to achieve something similar to what Lensa or Avatar AI do. I haven't experimented with that type of use case so far, but I'll look into it. I would assume that you would probably need to use at least 5-6 image prompts in a single command and all images would need to be close ups of the face from different angles. That's how these tools usually work.

You can try using a lower quality level. Or, if the problem is with your upscales, rather use Light Upscale than the regular one.

Color schemes are tricky because the more colors you add to a prompt, the more they bleed into different parts of the image. You're probably better off using something like "theme infusion" to achieve a similar result. I'm releasing that video today.

Depends on how you want to change it. Do you want to change the color or add clouds or something else? Just add it to your prompt and try it out.

@@TokenizedAI I would like to change lets say just color of the sky, but keep the exact same house, but each time I try to change ONLY the sky, it change the whole picture and house is totally diferent, so probably it doesnt work in mid journey, best way to do it to use mid journey to find the perfect building, and then adding sky color in photoshop.

@@diniidesign9852 Most likely, you will have to take the original image of the house that you want, upscale it, and then use it as an image prompt to repeat the process. Example - Step 1: "a red house" - Step 2: Upscale your preferred image. - Step 3: Use the image as an image prompt and change your text prompt to "a red house in front of a blue sky::1 a blue sky with a red house::1" But your house won't look exactly the same, no matter what you do.

Does the see work with the 'Variations' or 'Upscaled' image? I tried to send a message and get the seed number but it generated totally different images.

It turns out that the --seed parameter's behaviour is not consistent over time. Apparently it uses something like the current date in its algorithm. So if you use the same seed on the same day, then it might deliver consistent results. But the next day might already be different. Obviously this is a bit annoying and I'm not sure how to fix this.

Great video, thanks for sharing, but something doesn't add up to me though. I get a 10 digit seed number for all my images even for the ones I prompted with let's say --seed 1234. Do you guys know why?

Two possible reasons: 1. You re-rolled. When you re-roll a prompt, the underlying seed is randomized again, even if your prompt states otherwise. 2. You retrieved the seed of an upscaled image. When you set a seed in your prompt, it applies to the set of 4 variations. Obviously, 4 separate upscales cannot have the exact same seed.

You're trying to do this in v5 on an individual upscaled image, which isn't possible because v5 doesn't have an upscaler yet.

Doesn't really work. You can try it but it will usually squeeze or stretch the original image to a point where it looks dumb. At least that's how it's behaved for the past few months. Not sure how yesterday's update with the new ratios and slight improvements may have affected this though.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Using --seed is a relatively advanced feature. If you're still in your trial and in the #newbie channels, then it's unlikely that you would encounter these.

I checked and it shows that I did it in v4-5, and I also made DM requests in Upscaling and Variations and Grid. However, the DMs are coming in irregularly or not at all, as I mentioned before. It seems like I'm just getting lucky with the DMs.@@TokenizedAI

We pronounce the “para” in those words the way you use it for “parameter” but the prefix doesn’t mean the same thing for a word like, “paranormal” as it does in “parameter,” so we don’t pronounce it the same way. English is a very inconsistent language and difficult for that reason. I appreciate you considering the change. Your English is perfect and barely accented most of the time but that word was jarring to my ear and distracting.

Nee keine Sorge. Ich betrachte das auch gar nicht als Kritik 😉 Ich find's bloß total unwichtig. Zumal es eben nicht die einzig wahre Aussprache gibt. Ich hab meine gesamte Kindheit (10 Jahre) in Kanada gelebt. Manche sagen es halt so und andere halt so. Zwar gibt es beim einen Lager eine große Mehrheit, aber das bedeutet halt nicht automatisch, dass die andere Aussprache falsch ist. Ist ähnlich wie der ewige Streit bei URL. Die Mehrheit sagt U-R-L. Unfassbar viele sagen aber "Earl". Ich sag's mal so, mal so.

Depends. Upscales have a tendency to add so much detail that your original image may actually end up looking very different in the details and possibly also worse. The recommended solution to this is to try "light upscale redo". But generally, your image should change too drastically.

Do you go over how to apply a seed number to your chosen uploaded image that you just want upscaled, & not changed in any way? Midjourney should have a way for users to be able to simply upscale their uploaded images _without_ any changes to their image! I have followed your instructions, and have tried to use the "seed" in the prompt. I have tried six times but I have received completely different images each time. I have used the copy command to make sure the prompt is the same wording and seed number, but the images a so different. Can you suggest what I am doing wrong.

I can't really help unless I see your exact prompt. It sounds like your either doing something wrong with the parameter or you're hitting the re-roll button, which actually changes the seed every time. Or you're using v3, which has completely different behaviour.

Same here. Wasn't able to reproduce the images. I'm using v4. I found out that there are two seed values. I'm confused. One is the seed value that we specify in the prompt. Once the image is generated and when we request the seed using the envelope, it gives a different seed value. How does that work? Which seed value are we supposed to use in order to regenerate the image? I used both, but every time it was a different image.
