Intro:
Midjourney is an AI driven tool for image generation. Designers across all disciplines are beginning to adopt this technology into their process, or are exploring how it can be useful.
This is a very general introduction showing how to enter prompts, create variations and upscale images with detail.
I also speak philosophically about the implications of this technology on the architectural discipline; although theoretically it was have a very similar effect on many design disciplines.

YOUR DESIGN ABOVE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE NEW POLYMER BASED CONCRETE (if you can afford it) OR THE PROVEN SHOTCRETE! My wife and I are retired and working on plans for a very very unique earth-bermed concrete arch home with beautiful coffered ceilings and walls inside... and of course, lots and lots of windows for light ans passive benefits!! LOVE YOUR CREATIONS... USING AI ON MY OWN REAL ESTATE DESIGNS FOR A LOT OF MY PROJECTS!! Amen Retired, Veteran

Thanks for watching. You can try prompting that with something like "An architectural perspective view of a vacant retail space, bright white, ambient lighting --ar 16:9" Haven't tried that prompt yet, but you can give it a try!

It's Text to AI art, but we already have Speech to Text technology, so very soon ot will be speech to AI art. Then Imagine in a few years, you are wearing VR googles in an empty environment that you can design and populate just by talking. It's like Westworld...

It won't be long before this is commonplace. Only a matter of time and software development. If you can dream it then it's possible, just a matter of when and how.

@@StephenCoorlas How many years you think we are ahead of AI-generated relevant construction documentation ?
@StephenCoorlas
@StephenCoorlas Жыл бұрын
@@Constantinesis I can see Autodesk incorporating some basic form of this within the next five years. Imagine dropping a callout bubble around a wall to floor intersection and a menu pops up asking if you’d like to review recommended join condition details. You may be able to further enhance or refine a recommended detail by entering or checking boxes with relevant terms that will update the detail accordingly in real-time. I really don’t think it’s that unimaginable. The way in which we interact with the technology may be a little different, but the AI referencing a catalog of details and generating solutions seems totally achievable.
@jimmalone9656
@jimmalone9656 Жыл бұрын
Garbage in, garbage out though right? The important part is putting together that catalog of details to feed the AI. What’s the process for selecting the details that go into the catalog? Does every firm need to create their own catalog? Maybe that’s the best/safest way to do it. Time will tell I suppose.
@StephenCoorlas
@StephenCoorlas Жыл бұрын
@@jimmalone9656 I’ve had that same thought. For instance, it may be similar to how individual firms have hired BIM content managers to maintain their library of models etc. You may also be able to purchase packages of reference details, or applicable climate zone details, to plug into your office’s AI system. It’s easy to see how this can quickly become a monetized system. Ultimately it would be in society’s best interest to develop a universal catalog of reference details and make them available to the public.

Its cool as a brainstorming exercise and the results are quite dramatic but for architects it seems much more viable the solutions with stable diffusion taking a defined set of architecture and then do minor works on the design that is somewhat settled. I just spent perhaps 4 hours photoshoping a render adding people, improving shadows etc etc and in the end I got an decent render. However, it seems like an AI should easily be able to create something decent a lot quicker. Veras revit plugin seems to be one of those.
@StephenCoorlas
@StephenCoorlas Жыл бұрын
You're spot on. It sounds like in Midjourney's next release they will be focusing on more user control of the image results. I do have a video on Veras which was an exciting add-in for Revit, but I'm also working on a video for a new sketch to AI tool which seems like it will help a lot with the ideation to rendering workflow. It's still early, and the AI tools do need work, but they will evolve, and quickly.

I just tried out mid journey and find it absolutely amazing. However, I also see it as a huge threat to our industry. Our industry isn't known to be the most fast moving (the reason I believe is that artistic people are not good at running businesses), and I wonder how it could adapt to this AI revolution. The survival of our industry depends on whether we can make AI a friend or a foe. What do you think?
@StephenCoorlas
@StephenCoorlas Жыл бұрын
I think you're thinking about the right questions. Similar technologies are already at play behind the scenes in much of the software we use. I don't think this technology is going to disappear overnight, so it's a good idea to learn how to control it as a tool within our workflows.

Very profound words of wisdom. I do believe there is an inherent issue here - I spoke about the feedback loop which will only echo or reconfigure existing data through the use of these image synthesis (AI art generators). For now it will be a novelty, but eventually real human creativity will be one of the most coveted experiences we can share with one another. Thanks for sharing those words.

a good tool does exactly what you want it to do.... That's why a pencil is such a good tool..... AI is a very sophisticated version of a bad tool.... You get a lot of garble out of it..... Very sophisticated plush looking garble..... But still garble..... And it has found no place or market for use thus far, first they showed it to various professionals and no one was willing to buy it as they saw no real use for it...... Then they gave it away by way of invite only subscriptions..... Trying to find a use for it.... Now they just giving it away for free..... Hoping someone finds a real use for it..... And the solution is to get away from these word prompts, get it to take a lot of sketch input, allow the person to get out of it precisely what he wants.... And if the software is unable to develop greater sketch input..... Well I think it will never find a real use and will be a give away software forever......

We are seeing versions of this software being integrated into photoshop through plugins and it's already projected to be extremely useful for graphic designers and other visual art professions. It's still early, but these technologies will undoubtedly become mainstream in due time.

oh i hate this so much. All this AI stuff overwhelmed me a lot. Imagine going years to architecture uni where professors are aholes, working till u sleep deprived. Let's not talk about the student loan. Just to be replaced by a machine. Also someone asked for 50 renders??? the audacity some of u have, I'm grossed out. And this applies to all art forms.
@StephenCoorlas

Rest assured, all current methods of design and documentation will remain intact for many years to come. There are still firms that run entirely on AutoCAD and still artists who do Architectural renderings by hand. Technology will continue to become more efficient and more effective. It’s up to us to use it for good.

Replaced how? This is not architecture is just a sketch, and I hope I had a similar tool when I was a student to be able to express myself better, instead of losing so much time on useless renders, which weren't even close to the final project. It's nothing more than a tool which will save a lot of work.
