Midlake is like the best of the 70s morphed and mixed into the best. Flutes, guitar solos. It's like Moody Blues, Bread, America, soft and lovely with hard edges. At the Sydney Australia gig there were SO many baby boomers in the audience with all the yung guns who'd never even heard of the Moody Blues or America! discovering 70s rock for the first time! Love it! Midlake bridging the generation gap big time!

*"Roscoe"* Stone-cutters made them from stones Chosen specially for you and I Who will live inside? The mountaineers gathered timber piled high In which to take along Traveling many miles knowing they'd get here When they got here all exhausted On the roof leaks they got started And now when the rain comes we can be thankful Ooh ah, Ooh ah When the mountaineers saw that everything fit They were glad and so they took off Thought we were due for a change Or two around this place When they got back they're all mixed up With no one to stay with 1891 they roamed around and foraged They made their house from cedars They made their house from stone Well, they're a little like you And they're a little like me We have all we need Thought we were due for a change Or two around this place This place, this place When they got back they're all mixed up With no one to stay with When they got back they're all mixed up With no one to stay with

This song ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. I guess it's a combination of the lyrical perspective and the cynical style that Tim delivers it in. All on top of AMAZING musicianship that's never too over-the-top, but retains the soul of intricate musicianship. Simplistic, yet fantastically original. Truly, a one-of-a-kind band that is traditional, and mold-breaking, all in one. LOVE this band. :) Plus, the drummer and I share the same name! Can they be ANY more epic?? :D

A song that’s melody instantly grabs you and it takes listening 4 or 5 times before you get eager to learn all its vocals. Understanding the lyrics and then finding some common purpose or influence in those lyrics . This song makes me nostalgic for first ,it’s moment in time and second for the place it sends you . Stone walls broken on mountainsides running past a mature family of shading trees standing proudly guard over an ancient ruin echoing the hopes and dreams of the sadly departed with tears and stains of green grass running from the last lips of goodbyes . The romance and beauty only now remembered by the trespassers who stumble upon the site and are struck by the beauty chosen over function by our ancestors now only spoken with by the biting winds.
