So a chance a reverse sweep happens in one series is 3.125%, or 1/32. Multiply that by 11, number of series that will be played, and the chance is 34.375% or half what baus got.

im sorry boy but you are also wrong about that, the ideia is ok but you are not considering all the possible results, fist of all game order matters so u cant just multiply those numbers like that, example: you are considering LLWWW and LWLWW and LWWLW as reverse sweeps), second you are assuming tha it will always be 5 games, but it can be 3 or 4 games, you should consider that and it woud reduce A LOT the probability of a reverse sweep happening. Please try againg considering all this things.

For those who want to know the actual calculation done to figure out how many reverse sweeps there will likely be, here it is: First, let's assume a 50/50 between two teams. It doesn't matter who wins the first game, as long as the second is won by the same team, and the other 3 are won by the other team. Therefore, the probability of it happening is 1*0.5*0.5*0.5*0.5 = 0.0625 (or 6.25%). Then, we consider 11 chances of this event happening, and we can construct a Binomial Probability Distribution with n=11 and p=0.0625. If you input those values here: stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial we can calculate the chance of x events happening, which give us the following distribution 0 - 0.49168 1 - 0.36057 2 - 0.12019 3 - 0.02404 4 - 0.00321 5 - 0.00030 6 - 0.00002 7 -> 11 - basically 0 It's easier to see the distribution on a graph like this shiny.rit.albany.edu/stat/binomial/ but you can't input exactly p=0.0625 there. Anyway, it's most likely (49%) there will be no reverse sweeps, but there is also a high enough chance of happening once (36%) or twice (12%). I'd bet on either 0 or 1 reverse sweeps

Ah, it's worth noting 50/50 is not a correct assumption, but it's the one which will result in the higher value for p (probability of a reverse sweep). If you consider, let's say, a 70/30, then p becomes 0.7*0.7*0.3*0.3*0.3 + 0.3*0.3*0.7*0.7*0.7 = 0.0441 (which is smaller than 0.0625). So for any variation from the 50/50 in any of the Bo5, it will increase the probability of no reverse sweeps happening at all

It's funny that his math was *kind of* on the right track. Assuming every game is a coinflip, a reverse sweep can only occur with the patterns HHTTT or TTHHH. Thus, the chance of any one BO5 being a reverse sweep is 2 out of 2^5, or (0.5^5) x 2 (which was baus' calculation), resolving to 0.0625 = 6.25%. He only neglected to find how many times it'll happen on average in 11 BO5s, which by the linearity of expectation comes out to be 11 x 0.0625 = 0.6875. So we see that on average, out of 11 BO5s, less than one of those would be a reverse sweep. However, league games obviously have far more nuance than coinflips, and some players relent when they are two wins ahead while some others shine when they are two losses behind.

No. There's a 25% chance team A wins two in a row, and then a 12.5% of that 25 that team B wins 3 in a row. So a 3,125%. Add the other 3,125% for the exact reverse happening (team B 2 wins, team A 3 wins) and u get 6,25%. That's the chances of a reverse sweep in one series. The mathematically correct guess, is 1 reverse sweep in 11 games, however this doesn't apply the skill difference variable between the teams, and if one team wins 2 in row they are most likely superior, so losing 3 in a row is very unlikely, meaning 0 could be the best option
