When my bike was parked, it would leak gas out of that bottom nipple. It would leave a little puddle under the bike. I took the carb apart and it looked pretty spotless. I watched your video and when you mentioned a grain of salt wouldn't allow the float needle to close all the way, I decided to spray carb cleaner in the seat. A few pieces of rubber flew out of the port when I sprayed in the seat. Put the carb back together and wallah, she doesn't leak anymore. Just wanted to say thanks for the info, your video is very helpful.

My pilot jet broke off right at the bottom (or top depending on how you look at it) and I cant get it out to replace it. Would it be wise to drill it out or am I now in the market for a new carb? I was going to clean and do a rebuild kit on it, had that ethanol gas sitting in it a little too long and it gummed it all up but now I have this problem.
@MidNebraskaMotorsports2 жыл бұрын

Thank you so much! I pulled out my pilot jet or slow jet and it was completely clogged. I tried reaming it with very small gauge wire but got nowhere. I ended up using a blowtorch tip cleaning bit (the very smallest one) and had to twist and twist from both ends to get the clog to open. Now I can see daylight through the tube. I'll report back on how the bike runs once I get it back together. Thanks again!

What if the fuel is dripping out of the air box what is causing that? I took the carb out cleaned it did I miss something?
@MidNebraskaMotorsports3 жыл бұрын
Float sticking possibly. Otherwise is your air filter clean?? That can cause the fuel to be sucking back into the air box. Other thing would be valves. More than likely it’s going to float needle tho!!

My slide & needle won't slide in or out that easy...... Is it greased or need grease? Also, after getting back together, the throttle won't retract.... & I've tried it all the way down, just barely in... Throttle works fine all the way off the carb..., until i thread it to the top...
@bbtalber3 жыл бұрын
78raarons, did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem. The throttle cylinder that houses the needle wont slide down (retract as you say) which makes the throttle cable same too long when you hook it back up. It actually is the travel inside the carb that is messed up. I'm thinking that I smashed the pilot jet when I tried to remove it. I could not get mine to come out and think I may have tried a little too hard to do so. I'm looking for a replacement 35x35 needle valve to try and see if this remedy's my problem. I haven't been back in my garage yet to even see if this theory makes sense. Would love to hear how you solved your issue or have Mid Nebraska Motorsports weigh in here. Thanks!

@@MidNebraskaMotorsports Ha, I Do Have a Clue.... OK, So it is nice of you to make videos and help the less informed.... HOWEVER, Pease Do Not foster bad habits by beating on the jets. @@crazybob1954mo , Not trying to add fuel to the flame here. Just trying to figure out what to do next. I believe I damaged my pilot jet trying to take it out. "smashed" shut is my theory. Know where I can get a new pilot jet? Or purchase new carb? If so, where do you recommend purchasing a reliable carb from. I know OEM is high dollar but also don't want generic crap.
@crazybob1954mo3 жыл бұрын
@@bbtalber The pilot jet is not a consumer replaceable part. It is a part of the carb body installed by the manufacturer. Consider buying a used carb. The service manual indicates the pilot jet size to be a #35. A #35 jet is equivalent to to .0138" , You could buy a #80 drill bit which is .0135" in diameter. You could then drill out your damaged jet with the #80 drill bit. OR You can search after market CRF50 performance companies and buy an after market carburetor similar to the one in the link I supplied below... OR you could ask the stupid idiot who Instructed you to remove the pilot jet where You can get a replacement....
