One of my favorite details about Midnight Mass is that the word "vampire" isn't said once during the whole series. I kept waiting for a character to make that discovery or call that out, and I was oddly satisfied when no one ever did. Incredible story telling. It felt like it didn't need to be said and I love that.

@@HereticHulk it was about the misconception of a vampire as an angel. The townsfolk, in this world where vampires exist, simply mistakenly put it in a religious context. The vampire was manipulating everyone and went along with it just to suck some blood haha.

Idk I've been thinking that maybe it was an actual angel, and that's how angels really are rather than these protective beams of light that Christianity has turned them in to. Maybe angels are where the myth of "vampires" actually came from? Or it's a demon. But I was just watching a different cast interview where they bring this up! There were apparently several words on a "we're not saying" list.

I binge watched this series in 2 nights. My gosh - the music! I am Catholic and have not heard these hymns since I was a teenager! Brought back lots of memories of my Catholic upbringing. Loved the show and the music!

Just finished watching today. The first three consecutive days I watched one episode each sitting. Then when I finished episode four, I couldn't stop. Spent the afternoon and into the evening, for all practical purposes, in shock. Brilliant character development. Superb sets, costumers, and lighting. Outstanding cast! Extraordinary directing. I highly recommend _Midnight Mass,_ but only for those whose religious senses aren't easily offended. For those who, like myself, were raised in a deeply fundamentalist church environment but have consequently rejected that fanaticism, intolerance, and bigotry, I think you'll find _Midnight Mass_ unsettling, in a way, but ultimately gratifying and an intriguing watch.

This is why it was a masterpiece, it subjectively interpreted Roman Theology in a different light! All the dialogue and verses came at the right place and time. A very deep movie, imho.

I had trouble sleeping that night after hearing her lengthy screaming. By the way, the chemistry between Monsignor and Riley at the meetings in the rec room were so intense and creepy. This show was so well done. 👍

Ken L-From the moment that the creature got Riley in episode 4, through to the moment were he finally dies & you hear Erin's horrified/heartbroken screams, my heart just shattered. I'd come to really care about the character, & like you I'd thought that he would be the one who'd save the town, so I could not believe that Mike Flanagan had just killed him off like that. It was so heartbreaking to watch. Just shows you how good Mike Flanagan is at keeping you from being able to guess where his stories are going to go next.

Flanagan = 3 Mike shows on Netflix = 3 Masterpieces! I was super excited about "Midnight Mass". As always, "Horror" is more about character drama than the "supernatural" thing. I mean, you don't have "fright jumps" every 30 seconds like in traditional horror movies/series, and I really love that about Flanagan's work, man! He writes drama with touches of horror. This is Flanagan's first autoral story, and you can really see the difference here. There are so many passions in discussing the essential perspectives of facing life. Science and religion are so well portrayed, you can't tell if Flanagan is a Christian or a science guy or a tormented soul in between. And the acting? My Lord, Linklater (Father Paul) is amazing here, but for me, Samantha Sloyan (Bev) stole the show for her! Amazing woman and character! If Game of Thrones had this ending, man... Just kill them all! People like the courage of it!

I don’t get how some people are confused. It’s definitely a vampire and it shows how you can take words and twist them to your own meaning, and if said by a leader, others will believe them. The Bible is a perfect example. I was raised Catholic and went to a Catholic school in a faith driven town, and believe me, if priests were to do this, many would blindly follow. The show said it perfectly, “ the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Father Paul thought it was an angel but after seeing the people and what they done, I’m pretty sure he’s like, ‘oh, that wasn’t an angel, it was a vampire. Im pretty stupid’ but he didn’t have to say it. It didn’t have to be about a vampire or people turning, but it’s point is how people will follow the words and action of a leader if they believe them to be a good person or good will come from it. There’s been plenty of examples of this through history already. But it’s definitely a vampire and there are so many little Easter Eggs pointing to it from classic vampire cinema Mike put in there, so there really shouldn’t be confusion or debate…

I really liked Midnight Mass, despite it became Tragic w/a mostly Sad end (the 2 teens got away in the row boat at least), & Mike Flanagan's directing & Writing, especially of dialogue & monologues, were Outstanding, and the actors excellent. But, after Riley was murdered & brought back to life, & did NOT believe father Paul/John's deluded or Manipulative explanation that the Creature that killed & Drank their blood... was an Angel, as he tried to Spin his, Riley's & others' Change as being "Blessed," but in Truth, what Murdered Father Paul, Riley, others & brought some back to life, is NOT an angel, but an Ancient, terrifying, Evil Vampire, so Why did Riley or Erin Never call it like it was & Say it's an Ancient Evil Vampire??! Why did Mike choose Not to let anyone say in last episode for e.g. "It's NOT an angel of G-d it's the opposite, as it's an Evil Vampire, & all who it's attacked & brought back are now Vampires!"?? I'd truly Appreciate a reply, IF someone has heard Mike Flanagan Explain Why he chose not to let even Riley or Erin Say the word Vampire??!
