10 to 1 is my favourite Oils album. This was my karaoke song of choice during my uni days down at Steve’s on Wednesday nights in the early 1990’s.

"10,9,8,7,,,,1" and :Place without a postcard" are 2 of their best studio albums. Also "Oils on the Water" live is a classic oils performance. The Australian pub music scene in the 70s and 80s were our most prolific best. The world missed out.

Cheers for the shoutout, dude! Enjoy the Oils rabbit hole. “Oils on the Water” is criminally unknown outside of Australia… and possibly even within it these days! Belter of a live show. If you’re enjoying Midnight Oil, may I also suggest at some point working your way to the Cold Chisel catalogue - possibly Australia’s greatest ever classic or pub rock band.

Hang on a minute; New Zealand is outside of Australia. Trust me, they're plenty well known over here.

@@ianwebb3496 true - I tend to lump NZL in as another Australian state when discussing such matters. That’s not a knock - kiwis are our brothers and sisters.

A thing that you can assume with a Midnight Oil song is that it will probably have political commentary / content in it, varying in scale between global and local to Australia. The band "broke through" to a broader audience in about 1982 with the (fabulous) 10-to-1 album which featured Power and the Passion as a big radio hit. This live version of it will give you a fair idea of why an Oils concert was always just a great, great thing to be at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faLEYqmNntare9E (Seriously: look at this TODAY!) Incidentally, Peter Garrett (the rather arresting lead singer) was elected to the Australian House of Representatives and served as Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, & Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth.

Please check out, 'Stand In Line,' by the 'Oils', done in live concert. The intro is fantastic. They are a band with a conscience and a message. Another Aussie, who is one of the best singers in the world is, John Farnham. Always react to him live and in concert, too. He has a huge number of hits to choose from! He also sings songs with a message. Try, 'You're The Voice,' with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in concert.

Fcuck that's a unique sound, fcuck that's a good sound, fcuck that's a great lead guitar sound. I'm thinking those lead breaks may be emulating artillery, and likely inspired by Jimi Hendrix's performance at Woodstock.

10 songs better than Bed's Are Burning? I think EVERY song on the first four albums are better than Bed's Are Burning. Hirsty's drumming is very low key in Bed's Are Burning and for much of their more commercially acceptable music. But it is his drumming in the early days is one of the reasons I love the Oils.
