Sadly you didn’t mentioned that the colors have a sense.... Colors fade our the deeper you get, so you have a deep meter with this dial too! It is really a early form of a dive computer and not as senseless as you might believe!

A fair bit out of my price range, but I love the look, and would totally rock one if I could justify it in the budget. That bezel should be better, though, at this price point. If Orient can pull off no backplay, so can Mido.

@malkmuslistener54594 жыл бұрын
i recently heard the reason they did multi-color dials like that was because as you dive, colors begin to disappear/blend as you go deeper, so the color that was visible would indicate the depth you were around. not sure how accurate that is, but i thought it was interesting.
@chrisbrown64944 жыл бұрын
I really like that. Looks better on the rubber strap, tones it down a bit. I think the colours correspond to the depth they disappear at under water, so they serve a dual purpose. Great review as always Jody.

Interesting if true - it then gives the watch colors a different perspective ... Jody some research please?

Agree that both the straps look better than the metal mesh bracelet - not sure you would want that clasp on a diver either - so it is more for show.

Thanks Jodie. I think for that busy a dial, bigger hands are a must - it’s a bit daft if the main function of the watch is not very legible. I like the idea but these days no one uses watches for diving, especially with all the info written so small, it would be more of a hazard than a help. The colours are a bit ‘my little pony’ for me. Nice review, as always. Cheers! 👍

I have been a SCUBA diver since 1974. We didn't have dive computers in those days, all we had were charts. So this watch and the original have the chart already there on the dial. But yes it is only a decoration now. The dive charts have significantly changed since 1961. The original charts were based on experiments on 20 year old Navy SEALs with super athletic physique. Modern charts are for more normal people.

A great retro watch obviously not a serious dive watch these days , the reason for the "candy" coloured rings is all to do with the human eyes, as depth increases various colours "disappear " so the relevant ring for your depth would stand out, an added safety in the days before dive computers :-) it also has a reversed "count up" bezel, one for the dedicated retro collectors I think

The watch itself is pretty cool, but that 21mm bracelet with no taper looks ridiculously chunky. And if the bezel is that hard to turn when it’s dry, it’s probably near impossible to turn in the water.

Mido sjould have been more faithful to the original colour scheme, bezel and hands. Been looking out for an original Fortis Marinemaster with decompression dial and internal bezel ring for a couple of years. Theres plenty on Ebay but either pricey or suspect condition. I love this watch 🤩 I believe there is significance to the colours. Apparently as you get deeper the colours disappear and it is a useful way to measure your depth. For example at 20m you can no longer see yellow and at 30m green is not visible any longer.
@ericb88884 жыл бұрын
Spot on .... red is the first colour to go and blue is the last . Think of “ I can sing a rainbow “ and you have the order of fading vis . There is also a tie in with No decompression tables similar to a DOXA bezel ;) Jody described an old school “ 10 foot stop “ .
