Bakugo's ( 爆豪) name already translates to powerful bomb The hero name he picks is Bakusatsuou(爆殺王) which translates more to the king of killing with bombs. Furthermore the Japanese word for explosion is bakuhatsu(爆発). So Bakugo picks a name that is a mix of his name and the fact that he is the king of murdering people, while choosing a name that sounds like explosion. It is actually some pretty clever word play that gets lost in translation, and one more example that Bakugo is pretty smart. Also Tsukuyomi is the Japanese god of the moon. Very fitting for Tokoyami

The reason Bakugo was so insistant on King/Lord Explosion Murder is because he used the characters in his name to make it, turning it into a pun, something far more respected in Japanese than in English. And the reason for Cellophane is because modern clear tape is a cellophane base. In England they call clear tape "Cellotape" because of a brand name.

In the english dub, it doesn't translate well, but bakugou gave Izuku the Deku name cause its part of the Kanji for "useless" while Uraraka gave it a whole diferent meaning when she told izuku that Deku can be part of the Kanji "you can fo it", so thats also why its such a good pick

A tentacle is defind as a flexible, mobile, and elongated organ present in some species of animals, most of them invertebrates. Most forms of tentacles are used for grasping and feeding. Many are sensory organs, variously receptive to touch, vision, or to the smell or taste of particular foods or threats. Examples of such tentacles are the eyestalks of various kinds of snails. Some kinds of tentacles have both sensory and manipulatory functions.

18:54 I dont think Bakugo was being insecure there, i kinda got the idea that he was annoyed because he was trying to focus on which place to choose but they were talking right behind him and distracting him. XD Also it's not a spoiler that Iida's brother was attacked in Hosu, it said it earlier. Montana might not remember but it is okay to say so because it already said it.
@jacobwilkinson5479 Жыл бұрын
On the tentacle thing, tails can only curl continuously in a single direction at a time, like pulling a wire through a tube to make a spiral, but a tentacle is fully extensible and can curl back and forth across its entire length and is a fully manipulatable limb. (That might not be technically correct but with it’s common depiction in anime that is how I see it) Also on the cellophane thing I think it’s use as tape is a highly regionalised thing, like maybe an American brand of tape. Here in Australia cellophane represents the entire set of plastic wrapping paper, the really loud crinkly stuff.
@no-bark4112 Жыл бұрын

@@kramersolinsky5841 That was Kenny's point though. Cellophane is one layer away from being the equivalent of saying Tape is his hero name. Captain America: he's a USA supersoldier Iron man: he wears armor Thor: it's his given name Batman: dresses as a bat to intimidate Wonder woman: kinda like Superman Green Lantern: he's a green lantern which use green light Martian Manhunter: he's martian and manhunter means detective (his job) The Hulk: self explanatory Of all these I think only Spiderman and Batman are chosen by themselves.

@Kaempfdog Жыл бұрын
Alright today was more or less just Hero Names but it’s still really clever about it. I’ll only bring up 3 instead of all of them though. 1st off I’ll mention Bakugo’s. King Explosion Murder sounds absolutely FERIL in English. But if you’re watch the English sub and he’s speaking in Japanese, he sounds like he’s saying “Bakugo.” It’s a Japanese pun on his own name. Which is SO clever but it’s also still fantastic that he sounds completely feril. (There’s a number of Japanese puns in this show. And they can be hard to catch in English dub. But they’ll all be noticeably weird moments.) But for now, Bakugo has no code name at all. And anytime code names are brought up, he’ll be marked as “undecided.” Next is Mina with Alien Queen. There were very few names that aren’t allowed, but there’s two things that you can’t really do. Have a crime in your name, or be associated with a villain. I think only one hero in this entire show gets away with it. But that one won’t come til later. I’d discuss Iida or Todoroki, but I think it’s pretty self explanatory. Iida doesn’t feel ready yet, Todoroki doesn’t want to take a name correlated with his dad. And then there’s Deku. Now here’s something you should ALWAYS remember. There are 2 meanings to the name Deku. One is worthless, the other is basically “I can do it.” And if you notice how everyone in the classroom reacts, they all think of the former 1st. And that’s not uncommon. If you don’t already know he’s using a different take on the name, you think of his bully title 1st. And also no one knows that’s a subtle flirt between Deku and Uraraka. And I include BOTH of them. But you can’t tell me from anyone that has any idea what he did doesn’t see that situation and think that’s accidental flirting. Good thing Midnight didn’t notice. But it DOES take away the power of Bakugo’s bullying. At least to him and her. So the reason that they chose names NOW instead of for the tournament, is because heroes aren’t like the ones from other TV shows, movies, and comics. Heroes are registered with the government and are public officials being both cops, 1st responders, and actors all at the same time. (Unless you’re Aizawa and just want no part in the acting part.) So the kids identities of becoming heroes is going to be public regardless. Everyone is just going to call them their “show” name. It’s like Officer Friendly from elementary school teaching you about cops. Probably not actually named Officer Friendly. (Granted I came from the McGruff the detective mascot era of the police. Which was 90’s to 2000’s.) Basically the point is they aren’t on the field yet and don’t need hero names til they’re on the field. But the FAR more clever aspect of this arc is the internships. Unlike how they appear, everyone of them is specifically DESIGNED. Also I like how Deku is the most powerful of everyone in the class, able to counter Todoroki, no one sees it that way because his quirk recoil is so hefty and the heroes don’t want to take responsibility for teaching him how NOT to explode his arms. Todoroki’s damage is internal when he switches fire and ice, so no one knows he has a hefty drawback of his own. So everyone guns for him. Also “I am here in a bizarre position” will never not be funny. We’ll cover why All-Might fears Gran Torino another day. I am so excited for the next episodes.

Montana "Dont heroes kill? I assume thats what is happening" Oh boy, not only is that not whats happening in MHA, but in general for hero stories, the heroes refuse to kill. Its a big deal with Batman and Spider-Man, a line they refuse to cross even if killing the bad guys would result in saving people down the line. Because thats an interesting philosophy - killing makes them also villains, and killing without a due process if execution is a thing is also going above not only the law but also the justice system and the order and morality of society.
@12thLevelSithLord Жыл бұрын
Yeah. People always argue "Batman/Spider-Man/etc should just kill the bad guys" but why is that their responsibility? Even if we agree that killing the villain is the best solution, why can't somebody who isn't them and has something resembling the authority to do so handle it? Like, Batman captures Joker and hands him to the cops. Any one of them could just put a bullet in him while he's unconscious and say he woke up and resisted arrest.

I'd like to give Montana a bit more context to the whole "heroes don't kill" thing. Sure BNHA doesn't do a whole lot of death, but I feel that's a separate issue from why heroes specifically don't fight to kill. Heroes are a part of the official law enforcement system in Japan. Just like in our world, it's taboo for a public law enforcer to take someone's life in the heat of battle. Remember that modern society existed before quirks, and then quirks were added into the equation later. So regardless of the fact that we're dealing with superpowered villains now, the precedent for due process and the judicial system before the taking of a criminal's life is still in place. It can surely be debated whether that's the best course of action or not, but that is how the legal system in Japan's quirk society works. This includes the death penalty, which does exist in BNHA, but has the same lengthy process of paperwork and red tape before the execution can take place. It's inconvenient and potentially dangerous, but similar criticisms could be made against the death penalty in the real world. And then there's the factor of heroes' pubic images, which play a huge role in the hero rankings and, therefore, their income. Presenting themselves as killers would be risky in that regard as well. Yes, BNHA keeps its death counter light (the validity of which is an entirely different topic of it's own right). But the heroes' legal inability to kill is less about topical censorship and more about worldbuilding. I think it's important that Montana has this information, since the trappings of quirk society is such a major instigator for the plot as the story progresses, from this arc onward.

I'll go first: Uravity. Just a clever meshing of her name and Quirk. Plus, it's pleasant. ☺️

Funny how Montana thought it was Midoriya was going to use "All Might" in a way for his hero name. Heroes do not go for the kill, it's bad for popularity.

Best up to this point, maybeeee. All Might v Nomu was hype and so was Deku vs Shoto. I will say, the fights tend to escalate and get better with time

this moment with Bakugo's hero name will always be my least favorite for localizations. It's supposed to show how intelligent he is on top of his fighting skills that were just shown off in the previous episodes but because it's a Japanese pun it didn't translate well. He created it by mashing the word "bakusatsu", translates to killing with explosions, with "Ou", translates to king, to create "Bakusatsuou", which plays on his name, Bakugo. It does literally translate to king explosion murder but even watching with subs and hearing it in Japanese doesn't really help if you don't already understand Japanese pun culture to a fair degree. Most people who don't know Japanese learn about this way later if at all and it just makes Bakugo look like a fool instead of being the positive characterization it's supposed to be.

I actually learned a random fact about Deku. His IQ is around 140.5. This makes him moderately gifted.
