I remember the Aladdin’s Castle arcade, K&B Toys, Babbages Video Games, Spencer Gifts, Sun News, Coconuts Music Store, The Original Cookie Factory (you could smell the cookies all through the mall). Chao Prya Chinese food. With the best sweet and sour chicken ever!!! All staples of my childhood. I have such great memories of this mall. So long Midway, you will not be forgotten!

There was a Steve and Barry's in the Dillard's wing that closed in 2008. Many name-brand stores have left Midway. Pac Sun left in the 2010s and many have left.

I can’t see Midway Mall lasting any longer. There’s basically nothing in there and security (🐷) are aggressive.

That's pretty rad. Dying malls are liminal spaces, like the people inside are CGI.

My parents home is very close to the mall so as a teen I walked there a lot to meet up with friends. This was in the 80s before they re modeled it. I just loved this place. I remember some of the other stores they had such as Woolworths and Abbott card shop and others. I went a couple weeks ago and it made me so sad. Thanks for posting this. Have a great day.

We lived right across the mall on the other side of 57 in Sommers mobile home park. This was during the 80’s from like 82-88. Lot of great memories hanging out there.

Great update video! I don’t want this place to close but I really don’t know how it’s lasted this long. I remember coming here often about 15 years ago and even then being in awe of the status of Elyria and the area around the mall. If an Eat N Park can’t last… that’s never a good sign. Also, there used to be several shady internet gambling places around the mall in the surrounding properties. It really sucks that towns like Ashtabula and Elyria are STILL being left behind after all these years considering how close they are to Cleveland and how you can buy a house and have a nice (or maybe decent) life at a lower cost.

Elryia is looking like a ghost town. There is several abandoned properties surrounding the mall like the 3 restaurants, an entire shopping center, etc. The mall is still open, but it’s rumored to close anytime soon. Security here are pretty aggressive so be careful if you go.

@@slackingpacking good info to have! I most likely will not make it back up there again while the mall is still open or even standing unless I have business in Cleveland or Sandusky, but doubt that. Best Buy was still open the first few times I went to the mall. Also, I would grab lunch at the Qdoba outside the mall, but that also closed up. Yea, Elyria has been rough for many years. I just looked on Zillow and even the mobile homes around the mall are kinda pricey… and some of the older 1k sq ft homes are 225k… very surprised to see prices that high. I assumed prices would have been less but everything has gone crazy in housing over the last few years.

I checked the web before the end of June and they said it was already permanently closed, what gives?

It’s still open but security is hostile than ever. 🐷
