that's some crazy painting. i usually go in short bursts. in general the colder it is, the longer it takes to cure. you actually want to stop your stroke once you go off the side of the object and then go back over it, because if you were on top of a piece when you stopped and went back it would create an area with extra paint. going all the way off to the "air" on the side of the object will leave an even amount of paint. also keep the distance even with the flat surface you are painting. i've been painting for too many years, obviously.

Oh, I def' go way past the piece before turning back. I brought the parts inside the house to dry. They turned out great!

John & Adam's yankee workshop :) couple of tips you might know - 1) get some disposable gloves from the pharmacy for when using chemicals and paints, i've a skin alergy i only discovered after years of wiping wood glue with my fingers, 2) you prob do this but replace the leg levvelers and set them a little high to protect the sides when moving as i've found all my cabs with no levellers on had damaged bases.
@Johnsarcade
@Johnsarcade 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, James! I should use those gloves, my hands are usually a mess when I'm done. I'll replacing the levellers soon. I always do. :)

In the future you might try a biscuit joiner to join the old cab side to the newly cut piece. Since is has a flat bottom you don't have to worry about the problem you were having with the drill bit and they also have play by design so it's easier to slide in over the dados. Also, since it always cuts the exact distance from the top you can ensure that they line up nicely. Great job overcoming the challenges.

can't believe you painted the speaker cover since it was power coated. covered something good with something bad that will flake
@Johnsarcade

I wanted all the finishes to match. I don't think it's gonna flake! Never had that happen with spray paint before. Not in my lifetime at least. And, well, it looks good!

fyi you don't need primer for metal that's not bear it already has a coat of paint so just a light sanding and you should be good it's not like it's ever going to get wet or be outside if you use a enamel paint and bake the parts in the oven after they dry at 300 for an hour it will never come off that's how i paint my ak builds

in the uk we have a word for this "bodging", and this was a bodge of epic proportions. but you got the job done and it turned out good. nice to watch someone with similar level of workmanship to myself. i'm patched up my own arcade cab and can testify to how time consuming and tedious a job it is. thanks for taking the trouble to document the process, keep up the good work friend!

I tend to "bodge" and recover and often. It's like falling down a flight of stairs and landing on your feet. :)

At least wipe the dangling bondo onto the bowl before you start dripping it all over the parts of the cabinet that you're not going to bondo. :x You were dripping that stuff all over that cab. Other than that, it looks good!

I said before I even started that I have a bad habit of using too much and that I am sloppy. This trivial fact will have no bearing on the end result. Trust me. It's gonna look bad ass. :)

I want to know wich pin is what action, like pin 1 is the Esc button, pin 2 is the ctrl and so on, And is there a pin for the coin a mechanism? I have a coin mech that I want to connect, is that possible? (Ebay > arcade encoder china > a gray yellowish collor of circuit board)
