People still find it strange it’s dark down there🤣. Not that there is much to see in most of the tunnel sections. It would be nice for people to see the dis used stations a little better. But again most of them it’s just a brick wall with some doors in

@dalecharmantravels8057 Yes, that's my experience, too, having undertaken many site surveys down the tunnels (during Engineering Hours!) ...including a Friday night some 20+ years ago when we walked from Caledonian Road to beyond the crossover at King's Cross (this was when we were designing L.100 signal and the associated modifications). I'd agree that there really isn't very much to see down there, even at York Road disused station, though I appreciate that many people will be interested to see it all the same.

The good thing about your video's is it adds a human presence to the underground, of cause staff are human, but never on the still, always engaged in getting people moving like a big machine the tube is.. You see the trains zoom in, hoover up the punters and zoom off.. No thought given to the staff that make that happen from ticket sales to drivers, and your opinions and thoughts are 'real' and not a manufactured script but within the rules and respect for your employer always. I feel it's a two way thing and improves concentration and sharpness whilst driving also! Quite relaxing watch someone else taking the responsibility of a driver, and you can tell, you enjoy your job, who wouldn't? (well a few, always a few lol)

Hi Dale, Another interesting video (thanks) and platform-biassed view was good. I'm a PHOM having spent 15 years living and working in Bayswater/Paddington in the 70s/80s before moving to Sydney, NSW, so, I really enjoy the "driver's view" of your videos and your (safety-first) comments. I still make my annual visits "home" (except for COVID years). I understand about not being able to modify your work environment just for video-ing, however, it would be good to "see" those abandoned stations that, as a passenger, I've often strained to catch a glimpse with little success. Ian

Some of the disused stations can be visited on the “Hidden London” tours (e.g. Down Street and Aldwych). Often, like York Road and Down Street, they’ve had the platforms mostly closed off from the tracks with brick walls. It means there isn’t a lot to be seen from the train even from the cab (am I right, Dale?).

From Wiki: 'Holloway Road Station is close to the Emirates Stadium. As part of the planning permission £5m was due to be spent expanding the current station to cope with increased passenger numbers on match days. However subsequent studies showed that to ensure the station could cope with the numbers the lifts would have to be replaced with escalators which would cost £60m. As a result, the redevelopment plans were put on hold'. Note also that despite being built with 2 lift shafts, only 1 has ever been used (the other being mothballed following a failed experimental spiral escalator). From the platforms, a second exit no longer in use is visible and leads to the back of the used lift shaft.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to construct a surface level station on the east coast line, north of the Hornsey Road bridge that could be used on matchdays only?
@andyf7502 ай бұрын
This would provide a direct service from King's Cross. Much of Arsenal's matchday support travels in from Hertfordshire & the surrounding area. Trains could stop here & take the pressure off Finsbury Park.
@falafel46182 ай бұрын
@@andyf750 I doubt a surface level station would be any cheaper plus there'd be timetable issues with stopping trains slowing down other trains.

Hi Dale, the audio is sorted now, both channels are working. Having watched a few videos done with the camera positioned in either of the front windows, I'll note that the camera picks up the mirrors & monitors best when the platform is nearest the camera. Which probably means that if the camera was placed in the center window it would give a poor or no veiw at all of the monitors. You know the line best. I'm sure you'll use your best judgment. It will be interesting to see how the lighting works on the new '24 stock, once it's deployed and phased in. We'll look forward to that during the next year or so. Thanks for doing these videos, and I hope you continue to do them.

Can confirm audio is coming from both ears. I am sure it feels good to get praise for your work from fellow drivers who are training. Shows there is a good purpose to the videos beyond our entertainment. I am confused on the new camera location. It seems you are trying to get view of more of the monitors. Dale why is it necessary to have a signal just above the station monitors on the wall when there is a signal just inside the tunnel.
@dalecharmantravels80572 ай бұрын
2 reasons. 1 it acts as a repeater signal. But the main purpose is for station staff to see when we have a clear signal ( when they are helping dispatch trains). Plus years ago it would be so the train guard could see when it was time to depart the station
