Between Syncthing and Tailscale on the AppleTV, running as a low power, always-on, subnet router, it's a breeze to backup and sync with my OMV machine as well as a neutered WD NAS that no longer has native remote access. As an android user, I use X-plore file manager. It's got all the features I want, including LAN, FTP, Web storage, SSH file transfer, WiFi file sharing, and DLNA. My favorite feature is its dual pane interface. It's a little awkward at first, but it's very easy to become accustomed to.
