I went with the 12.6 length for my sfar to allow me to access my aero gas block. It’s a fantastic hand guard and lightened me up even more!! Great stuff Christian!!
@ChristianGrest9 ай бұрын
Yes I saw you went with the shorter one. I ended up grabbing a long ball Allen and it works great for adjustments.

For my current build, a .300 Blackout, I'll be installing a 9.25" Midwest Industries Night Fighter handguard. It has a bigger, beefier barrel nut than the Combat, but it keeps the rail from not flexing as much, when adding all kinds of gear on it. Midwest makes some great products!

Yea that’s a nice one for sure! I run a good bit of Midwest Industries products and have been happy with them.

Schweet! My son and I are piecing together a pretty wicked AR with the handguard I won off of you. It's turning out very nicely!

Thanks! Thats awesome! Can’t wait to see it. If you need any help with it, let me know. Be happy to help 😃

The Midwest handguard makes the looks better. 👍

Agreed. Wasn’t crazy about the factory handguard at all.

@@ChristianGrest weight savings design? We have a handguard design engineer on the payroll and we are going to use the design either way? They had the final review, before sending it to market, at 4:30pm on a Friday? 🤔😅
@ChristianGrest9 ай бұрын
@@Michigan4Conservative it’s a marginal weight savings talking a couple 2-3 ounces. Most of the weight savings with the MI handguard on the Ruger is the lighter barrel nut. The Ruger one is chunky! But yea I’m sure the designers don’t factor much in terms of weight savings. More looks and function.
@Michigan4Conservative9 ай бұрын
@@ChristianGrest POF uses an oversized, finned, Aluminum barrel nut. And their barrel is a AR15 shank size.
@ChristianGrest9 ай бұрын
@@Michigan4Conservative the Ruger one was just solid metal. A finned one would’ve helped shed some weight, no doubt. I’m liking it much better with this handguard. Weight reduction aside, it just looks and feels better. Only complaint, which really isn’t one is I lost the forward QD sockets the Ruger hand guard had. But no big deal there… I’ll just add an Mlok QD point like I’ve done on a lot of other rifles

Nice. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with Midwest Industries products.

Looks good. I would've gone with a shorter rail to access the gas regulator easier with the short hex wrench so it could still be kept with rifle inside the grip.
@ChristianGrest9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I thought about that, but ended up grabbing a long ball end Allen that works great. Also, I’ve considered using the rifle speed gas block which would be accessible outside of the handguard. We will see.

You could cut a small area of the hand guard to get access from the side.
@ChristianGrest9 ай бұрын
I’ve considered doing that. Ended up picking up a long ball end Allen that’s been working great to access the gas regulator.

Personally I think the OEM handguard looks better, but if you need a full top rail, Mid West is the way to go

Totally get that. Just never been crazy about the split rail setup like this and the Aero S-One. So far so good with the Midwest rail; always been pleased with their stuff.
