We didn't have Hot water for a couple days... it was like very awkward... and how do you shower? So I told my hubby to heat up pots of water on the stove...run through the shower soap it all down and rinse just quick as you can and use the hot water to do a 2nd rinse and to warm up. So that's what He did. It worked out but I'm glad it was just a couple days... issue was a water heater switch... flipped the water limit back on but they have to order and replace a part.

Your comment brought back beautiful memories of my mom who loved a tidy home and taught me from a very young age how to do household chores. Thank you for your comment. @@argo12 ceebee - You mum sounds epic. She knew what she was doing! And, argo, I wish there was some online venue for you to be helped with the motivation you need to see what benefit is available to you if you can rouse yourself to do things. You know (we should all know) that every situation is different. Is there one thing you can do where the rewards will greatly outweigh the rewards of other things? Imagining the feeling of a tidy, cosy bedroom with fresh warm bedding is a fantastic one but it may be harder to manifest for some people. I wish you all the best. I'm rooting for you to find that one thing that will start to unpick the spell. I bet you feel completely overwhelmed. Some things irritate us more than others. Some things give us a greater sense of well-being or calm than others. We don't usually pay attention to, and quantify, where things fit on this list because we are A: usually in a state of relative panic when we do them and B: the effects can be so subtle that it's hard to detect if (for example) we are slightly less stressed when there are fewer bits of fluff sticking to our socks. To say that you will feel so much better once you've tackled the dishes may not be true. It may not be true for you. It could be something else, that you aren't conscious of, which is constantly using a red pen on your life. We have a horrible habit of thinking what works for us is going to work for somebody else. Good luck to you.

Anything still dryer-warm is the sole reason I even bother with laundry. I hug big piles of fabric as I pull them out of the dryer and it's like hugging fluffy wads of insta-sunshine. Nothing beats line-dried, but I live in an apartment and have no access to a clothesline anymore, so this is the next-best thing lol. Cleaning has been a thing I struggled with all my life, but learning to change my mentality from 'have to' to 'get to enjoy' is really... really helpful. I've been ignoring the sheer chaos that is my own bedroom for months (depression lows can get moose kicked in the face!), but today... Today I walked in there and cleaned for a solid 6 hours today, because I didn't have to. I got to reclaim my dresser, I got to reclaim a huge chunk of my floor... I get to reclaim that feeling of 'hey remember when you worked real hard to paint this whole room on your own and make it somewhere you were proud of?'. I get to reclaim a space I was once real proud of. That's my goal. Thank you for the boost in getting back to wanting to be proud of the space I live in!
@GoldilocksZone-665Күн бұрын
Are you able to pin point where that feeling of 'have to' comes from? Is it all internal? This sentence, "Today I walked in there and cleaned for a solid 6 hours today, because I didn't have to." is so intriguing to me. This almost suggests that there has been some external reason why you weren't, this time, feeling some kind of time pressure. Like, suddenly, the finishing line you're told to focus on was no longer there. Your running lane (to persist with this analogy) wasn't even perceptible. You were just 'running' for the thrill of it.

@@GoldilocksZone-665 It definitely feels much more internal than anything else. I've never had a healthy relationship with cleaning or chores- I have severe dust allergies and I'm super sensitive to certain chemical smells, so cleaning has always been this battle to get done. If I don't "have to" clean, I won't... And it's a habit I'm trying real hard to break. I don't think I'm ever going to find cleaning to be fun, so I need to stop focusing on the task of cleaning and focus on the finish line, like you said. Finish line is more important than the race, in this case. Though getting to do a little happy dance when I get a section of a room done IS worth it in the short term.😂

NICE! I enjoy cleaning, it makes you feel good when your surroundings are clean and in order. Cleaning done on a daily basis helps to keep things in order. You just have to GET UP AND DO IT! The sooner the better you get things done. Taking a daily shower and putting on clean clothes is a great motivator; clean body, house, and mind.
@kathharperКүн бұрын
@@ladylike771 I think you mean well and also don't understand the dynamics of the situation are a little more challenging for many people. No shade here as all you say are truths, That said, it's just not the way it works for many who struggle with motivation. We *want* to be enthusiastic about getting things done and hearing these what I would call platitudes of cleanly orderliness are just not what it takes to get past what's stalling us. The platitudes are actually "de-motivating" because despite good intentions hearing the phrase just GET UP AND DO IT! causes the opposite reaction and we feel like we're somehow lacking. We're not, and our minds just don't process that in the same way yours might.
@candiweaver45904 сағат бұрын
Agreed. That phrase automatically turns me off. No offense to @ladylike771, but I was all on board until that phrase. I have always struggled to clean and keep my room clean as a child, etc. I have been called lazy, and I've heard that phrase among others that made me feel like something was wrong with me. But as an adult, I found out I'm not lazy. I can work hard for other people, but I'm overwhelmed in my own house. I'm sure I have ADHD (I'm the out of sight, out of mind type - I just the other day realized that), and I'm beginning to wonder if I have autism. I've recognized myself in some of the descriptions I've heard on this and other channels. It's starting to bring some clarification. Even if I don't have autism, Mack and some of the people on other channels have helped me understand myself a little better. And come to find out, I'm not so bad, after all! Just a normal person with my own way of thinking. And my son, who I believe is in the spectrum. In trying to learn how to understand and help him, I'm finding myself. Even though we adopted him, he is so much like me and my husband, he must have been made just for us. I see us in him all the time. I love that I've found Mack, he's really helped me a lot.

I (Autism + ADD) find that the *dread* of not wanting to do a tough task is 100X as bad as the actual experience of doing the task. That’s one of the major mental blocks that gets in my way. Replacing some of that dread with a positive feeling to look forward to might help chip away even a little at the mental roadblock that keeps me from doing essential tasks. I think about doing laundry like I expect someone to attack me and break my legs while I’m putting my clothes in the washer, but I do get so much relief and satisfaction from wearing clean clothes. Thanks for your video Also. I’ve been working on asking for help with difficult tasks without being ashamed. It makes a great difference to tell myself “I don’t have to bear it alone”

Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised by how smoothly a plan goes. For me - this is unusual. Yesterday, though, I found the hacksaw, when I needed it, and that bit of bent parasol post cut like butter! Success! I really wasn't expecting it to be so easy. I think I have a thing where I know where something is but because I know it's supposed to be there I can't see it. This time I did! Once, when I was putting my laundry in the washer, somebody entered the yard with an unleashed Alsatian and it pinned me in the shed. You're feelings of being maimed whilst doing the laundry are not that far fetched! Not if your utilities are across the yard, anyway. Perhaps, if your washing machine is in your kitchen - the chances of being attacked while visiting it may be very slim! Yeah - I might have a bit of laundry PTSD. It didn't bite me. The associated human called it off. Whilst I was flattened against the washing machine, with nothing but a laundry basket to defend myself with, it was barking - so its human heard it and I was spared physical injury. It may have been, however, exactly the same Alsatian that once ran up behind me and lifted me into the engine block of my car when I was checking the oil. They live about an eighth of a mile away. Not really neighbours. It wouldn't have been nearly so surprising if they were neighbours. I would have been more alert to the potential of being either pinned at the back of the shed or hoofed into an engine block if they were neighbours.

Point of view/choice of words can totally change my mental outlook. I found a quote years ago that I have adopted. “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” ~ Dr. Seuss. I retired after 30 years of teaching. On my last drive out of the parking lot, I stopped my car, got out, stood and looked at my beloved little school on the hill to tell it goodbye. I started sobbing because it had been such an enormous part of my life. I stopped myself and reminded myself about my favorite quote. And…who am I kidding…I stood there and bawled for 15 minutes. And now…there are no more tears. I’m just privileged to have been able to plan lessons, meet with parents, figure grades, attend meetings, go on field trips, stay late virtually every day, take work home every night, continue my education for years, serve on committees for our school and our district, and effect the lives of hundreds of children over the years. ❤. I have been struggling with depression since my brother died unexpectedly this past December. He was the best person in my life for 69 years. He and I survived a horrible childhood of physical and emotional abuse and I have always felt a deep connection to him. He was the only person left in my life that I knew truly loved me. So needless to say, I have no motivation to do anything except hang on. I do feel better when I clean my condo, but I can only do one or two rooms at a time. Basically I keep the kitchen clean and my laundry done. Everything else looks horrible. Depression and/or mourning really does zap a person’s energy. You've done a fantastic job on the house!!! I work 7 days a week & have been on this schedule for almost 5 years now. A while back I switched to saying I get to go to work today instead of ugh I have to go to work today. Been a huge mental improvement switching to saying it that way as there are lots of people out there that can't work even if they want to or if the job they have isn't enough to fully support them. In a way I'm very lucky to be able to say I get to go to work today.

I like that reframe. It focuses on self respect and empowerment instead of obligation, and shame. Your epiphany videos have been significantly more helpful than all the therapy I've been through in the past year. I have actually been showing my treatment team your KZbin videos because of that. I have severe depression from a traumatic brain injury and I'm autistic with moderate support needs. After being undiagnosed for 38 years, I really appreciate people who can actually make a dent in the mental clutter that's developed over the past... Uh. Forever. So thank you for being you, your insight, and thank you for the videos you make. They have really made a difference in my life. I sincerely mean that.

I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a moose lord, dressed to the nines, potting plants in their living room before…today was that day. Also, I didn’t know my eyes could split into 4 like they did while watching the doorknob replacements. It’s official, I’m evolving with every video! So suck it!

Love your home, it is beautiful. I tend to clean up as I go along and then have a good, more indepth clean when I find the energy. Keeping a home tidy makes cleaning easier and not overwhelming. I like your suggestion of not thinking you have to do something but what you gain out of doing it. Good to see Jason again and I look forward to next week!

Sir you may be Autistic but your Mensa score is in the stratosphere. Yes, I watch lots of cleaning vids and yes they always act like their way will give me super results. However starting is more than half the ballet. I agree about the “1 word change” idea. That is really what does move me off the dime to get going. Looking past the immediate change and into the effect is much more motivating to me. You really nailed it. This is the first video I’ve watched that makes perfect sense about cleaning. Thanks bunches, prayers and blessings for you and yours.🙋♀️💐🙏❤️

I dig the new hat Moose Lord! You make it sound so easy to get motivated. Actually, I’m very motivated to get my small mess cleaned. I’m just too exhausted to get much done. So I feel like I’m never getting anything done. I love all your plants. Especially that one in the corner with like multiple plants all in one pot. I don’t have a lot of stuff. But I’m going through everything and getting rid of about 75 percent . Good talk Moose Lord!

This makes sense . My husband loves to do the grocery shopping. I do the cooking. He puts the gallon of milk on the floor of the car then puts it in the refrigerator. With dirt on the bottom. I realized why I hate cleaning the refrigerator. I have a dinky ass sink . It’s a major pain to clean the shelves & bins . I saved & saved & now I have a sink big enough to put stuff in to clean .

The irony of the motivation issue is that I put a huge amount of energy and motivation into stopping myself from getting up and doing the housework. Actually doing the work is easier than not doing it, but I go ahead and not do it and get exhausted. It is amazing how easier it is to do the work than not do it. Amazing. Thank you for the video! Your idea of 'get' instead of 'have' is first class!

Yep, I was told that a long time ago! You have to change the perspective or perception. I have to do this thing to …. I get to do this thing because……! Thank you that’s something that is always a good reminder for all of us! In fact, I use that today and I got some things done. Actually, quite a few things, including self-care! I have heard it takes 30 days to create a habit. However, I’m pretty sure it takes longer than that for me. P. S. Your house is coming together so nicely and the plants are really adding that final touch. 🙏🏻💜🙏🏻🌎🕊️👏👏👏

@kawaiijohnКүн бұрын
I started thinking about it this way too- it's the ONLY thing that has worked to overcome my reluctance to do chores. But once I started seeing things as 'I get to a cleared sink today' 'I can make my favorite curry if I clean the pan for it' 'i can wear my favorite pair of boxers when the laundry is done' 'my roommates get to have a clean living room table today' 'the fridge will be clean enough for new food :)' it's worked for a few of my other autistic/adhd/disabled friends too, so it works! i also LOVE how your favorite shade of blue works with the green of the plants. your home is looking very cozy and inviting, and the whole process has been a treat to see- it's been motivating me to put my posters up this weekend :D

Honestly, I had a similar upbringing with messes. My mom was a “I can close the door; you have to live in it,” parent. I would tend to do a big clean/rearrange on or just before breaks or going back to school. I think it taught me to do these things for myself instead of for someone else’s standard, or because it’s a punishment.
