It is unreasonable to ask others to spend their time, energy, and money on dead beat humans like drug addicts and single mothers. Think if we had all the taxes back from LBJ's War on Poverty. Imagine, if instead of spending tax money on dead beats, instead we spent it on productive people. A good student gets free college instead of teen mom getting free food and housing. A law-abiding citizen gets a low interest home loan instead of a drug addict getting his 25th free ER visit. You get what you pay for and people like you pay for the worst people, so that's we keep getting more of.

To all the addicts trying to get and stay clean… one small thing you can do to help yourself is change your environment and friends. Quit hanging around anyone that uses and find new friends that are sober. My brother, after he got clean, was in a convenience store and there was a cop in line ahead of him about his age. He tapped him on the shoulder and said “I was wondering if you could help me, I just moved to town and I’m an ex con, drug addict trying to stay clean. What’s there to do after work in this town that isn’t hanging out in a bar?” That cop invited him to play in the departments softball league and there he met a bunch of other cops and firemen. He made several friends and later one of his firemen friends got him on the volunteer fire dept and they paid for him to get his EMT certification, which let to a different career. So sorry for your experience and as someone who deals with CPTSD I know how hard it can be. Having stacked trauma over the years I've been working with an awesome therapist who has helped me start to feel whole again. I know trauma rewires the brain and I know I'm not the same person prior to my trauma but that's okay. My awareness (hypervigilance) saved my life on Nov 22nd 2022 from being k1lled in a random attack. The attacker sh0t 9 rounds at my GF and I out for a walk as part of my PT from a car accident that was nearly fatal the Aug of 2022. While many people have one "Alive Day" I have 2 in less than a year. The head injury from the accident (TBI) and the attack kicked all the old trauma back up. But I survived with a single wound that missed everything vital in my leg by a 1/4". Had I not turned a corner when I did I would have risked losing my leg above the knee. Had I not had the "super power" of hypervigilance and watch people's hands, her and I would have been sh0t in the back from feet away. I carry the "what ifs" pretty heavy today but a shitload of guilt my GF now carrys the PTSD of that night. I see her exhaustion, anger and isolation. I see the pain in her eyes and know she doesn't think it will ever feel "normal" again. Especially since we live blocks from where we were ambushed. One day we were talking and I was trying to let her vent after one of many continued court dates over 23 months. She said to me. "The old me died that night. She's never coming back" and that broke my heart. I'm encouraging her to get into therapy and I'm working to find a new therapist as well. My last one was out of my budget but still saw me for years as I was making progress. I followed her from another location that took my insurance. I took 4-5 years off of therapy until this event but I can't afford $150/week for a great therapist. I am doing the research for a good therapist now. I hope you're finding/found peace in your C-PTSD. That's a horrible thing to carry every day. I do my best to help others dealing with PTSD. That's a really rough thing for anyone to deal with. No matter the cause

No the problem is that it’s a crime to be an addict, so instead of putting people through a decent year long rehabilitation program where they can actually relearn to live and lead a normal life, they are sent to jail, which taxpayers fund, costing an absolute minimum of 60-75,000$ per year. And while yes, they do get clean, but in an environment where the inmate is forced to lead an extremely self centered life… jail/prison is something you have to survive, and is in no way conducive to living an ordinary, productive life. We as a society need to ask ourselves what it is we expect of these people, because jail doesn’t promote or prepare people to be productive members of society.

Demanding comprehensive training and an investigation agency that is not INTERNAL AFFAIRS for when shootings occur, those are just a few of the answers. But are you going to bother listening?

The call I went on rough and they got her before she was OD’d and got her to the hospital and man, the conversation my dad had with her made me cry. He said things like “you have kids who need you and beg for you” and “I am almost out of places to stick you to save your life. Next time I probably won’t be able to” and it was just insane to see him as a human and caring for someone he doesn’t even know. I don’t know if she ever changed or is alove

As an addict, I thought dealers were "just feeding their families." If it wasn't him, it'd be someone else. That was until I couldn't contact any dealers and was forced to get clean. I've been clean about 12 years, and with a clear mind, I'm glad they go after them so hard. Yes, it is a choice to start using, but once you're hooked, people take advantage. The average it takes to try to get clean is 9 times, and it's even higher with opiates. I told my dr I'd heard 1 in 10 get and stay clean. She said that's shocking because she wouldn't guess even 1 in 100. I say this to try to show you how impossible it is for most. It seems impossible, and it was literally the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. If that's you, you CAN do it. It takes a lot of hard work, but you aren't a wimp. Heroin and Fentanyl nearly killed me more times than I remember. It seems impossible while actively using, but it is possible to overcome opioid addiction. Life is hard and bland in the beginning, but it gets easier with time. I pray for everyone struggling with this Devil. Jesus Christ died for me and you, and opening my heart and soul for Him is why I am still alive today.

I blame that kind of addiction after traumatic pain treatment on doctors who expect their patients to go cold turkey after months of pain meds. You need to taper down gradually -- sometimes more gradually than the doctors will allow. I'm not sure what the difference is between people who suffer the inevitable mild withdrawal and those who will go the illegal route once the prescription runs out. But everyone who takes painkillers for a length of time will become physically dependent on them.

At 18 years old I just had my daughter moved out of my moms, went through a bad series of kidney stones while being around a bunch of drugs ( daughters dad grew up around it already, considered an addict already being so young back then ) but I called my mom as soon as I knew this was a habit and the situation I was in… I had her take my daughter home, my mom raised me well and I knew my daughter was gonna be okay. After two years of overdosing and on meth and herion I left my daughter’s dad and went to rehab. He went to prison after we split. I kept using after leaving him n going to rehab, but then One day I got a call that my daughters dad was out for months and sober fighting for rights of our daughter, I went home that day to my mom and daughter and I got in outpatient and got sober. Almost 7 years we’ve been doing soooo gooood and there’s no going back. My fiancé now beat the cycle of it in his family and I saved my own life by recognizing the chance to have my family back. I’m so happy with my life it’s unbelievable…. If you feel like you can’t do it you really can you literally JUST have to want it.

It’s so sad that people are so afraid of going back to jail that they would rather not receive any treatment. It is comforting to know that times are changing and people with addiction issues are getting help rather than just throwing them in jail. I’ve known so many people that were good, strong and productive people until drugs ruined their life.

@@suesue4081 Mandatory drug rehab for non-violent offenders would make far more sense than prison. A criminal record would be an even bigger burden to an otherwise good person who was already struggling with addiction and possibly mental health issues.

Get sober man!! Dealing with life sober is really hard but it’s so much harder when you’re dealing with police and half dying because you have to do crazy things out of survival. Stop just surviving and *LIVE.* I hope anybody else seeing this that struggles with addiction gets sober. I’ve relapsed more times than I can count don’t let it deter you from maintaining your sobriety. Sending love. ❤❤❤❤

I mean this in a completely positive way .. dealing with life sober is not that hard. When I was an addict my life was WAY more difficult. Been clean and sober for 25 years and I might have a bad day or two occasionally but for the most part it's pretty good. Before? I had a bad day at least once a week.
@kayleesykes27392 ай бұрын
@@aliengranpa The number one argument I hear my peers giving each other is that it’s hard dealing with emotions/traumas/obligations when sober because of the big unfamiliar emotions. People think it’s hard but like I said it’s much harder when you’re in survival mode they just don’t realize it!
