The most important thing to remember for beginners is to never compare your work with the box art! They are professionals that have painted for years and do it everyday as a job, there is no way your models will look like that when you start painting. Focus on choosing fun color choices and experimenting with painting techniques as you get more comfortable! Don’t feel ashamed to try something new or a color scheme that is not official! Have fun and be proud of your work! There is nothing more fulfilling then having your own work on display on a shelf or table!
@MidwinterMinis4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I say something to that effect at the end of the video. The most important thing is that YOU are happy with it, and that YOU enjoy it! :)

@@MidwinterMinis it’s so important! So many beginners get discouraged because their miniatures don’t look perfect. But honestly it’s what I love about this community, that everybody has a different style. Damn finally somebody who actually tells the basics and not some frickin high class art lesson. I appreciate this video a lot. Pretty much every tutorial I have seen up to now was way to advanced for an absolute beginner. "Go ahead with the airbrush" as if I have an airbrush just sitting around! Or "Use some wash" without explaining how or even what that is. And ofcourse working with 7 different pots of paint for a simple marine. This video just made my day. It gave me some real motivation to go and paint some models while giving me some more realistic outlook on what I can expect.

Look within yourself before blaming a tutorial offering advanced skills. Beginner techniques are just novice method of applying the same skills. This tutorial is junk and will barely improve your painting ability.
@JBasilix2 жыл бұрын
@@robsonez Dude I literally looked up beginner tutorials... Not advanced. If something is labeled beginner I expect it to be appropriate for beginners. Yes now almost a year and a lot of minis later this video has little to offer. But back then before painting my very first mini without knowing any basics it helped a lot! The title of this video includes "your first". This is not about improvement, it is about the very first step... the basics of basics. And it does that very well. Also what the fuck is this: "Beginner techniques are just novice method"? xD. Beginner and novice is pretty much the same... maybe the novice has painted 10 minis while the beginner is literally just beginning. Ofcourse they are the same techniques. Seriously don´t even answer... I can see you have nothing to offer in terms of arguementation and I will simply ignore it.

@@JBasilix Beginner techniques ARE just novice method - the same thing. I'm sorry your lack the ability to extrapolate. Novice method meaning the beginnings of the advanced skills you see on more serious tutorials. Was clearly too hard for you to understand then and now... I fell into a deep state of "painting fatigue" after my lattest project (knees deep in an AoS Nighthaunt army) and half-way through it just left me. First time in three years I got exhausted by the simple thought of picking up a brush. However, this video, for some reason, ignited my creativity. Just watching those steps again, the whole painting process explained, the "bread and butter of the hobby" one might call it, it made me fall back in love with painting itself. I put my army on hold, went to my nearest gaming store, got a set of boardgame minis (just a bunch of archers and hellbardiers), and I just love painting them, designing their bases and picking some easy colors schemes. I guess sometimes we can really get lost in big projects, watching amazing minis people post online and pushing ourselves more and more, instead of just grabbing a few colors or minis we find cool in the moment and paint away. Thanks a lot for bringing the joy of painting back to me with this video!

Hell yes, AdMech! Gonna throw my two cents in - I've been passively consuming lots of these kinds of hobby videos while I work. For almost my entire world to be digital, I thought a more analogue, hands-on leisure activity would be a nice change of pace. I don't have anything Warhammer yet, but I've been very gradually accruing supplies like second-hand paints and brushes, DIY painting handles out of pill bottles, etc. The only things I've bought directly for this endeavor were

Painted my first minis a few months ago, I researched a lot but I used this video far more than anything else. It's incredibly helpful and my chaos space marines came out so much better than I could have hoped for a first timer. Thanks! I'm already onto raptors, berzerkers, and a defiler; still have loads to learn but it's given me a lot of confidence to experiment and have fun painting.

After watching this video I have finally decided to take the plunge. Been interested in painting minis since I've discovered WH40K's universe a couple of years ago. You gave me the confidence that I can do it, even though the last time I've touched a brush and paint was 20 years ago in high school. I've ordered everything you have on your ''beginner's'' list, the brushes and the vallejo paint kit, i also got a wash from citadel and some primers from home depot (the only thing i'm not so sure about). I'm sure my Skitarii rangers will look derpy as hell but hey we all start somewhere.

I just gotta say, this is the first tutorial video on painting a mini that made me genuinely excited to get started rather than intimidated by the fact that I don't have an airbrush. Thanks a bunch, I learned a lot!

Y’all did such an amazing job!! Paints have really gone a long way the last decade or 2. A lot of my hesitation was my memories of bad, cheap paints. After seeing what Citadel paints can do (not saying they’re the best or the cheapest) and how to work with them, I now have the confidence to paint my first mini!

More Advice: 1)You can make a wet pallet for pretty much free with stuff you have around the house and theyll probably be better then the brand ones (search youtube and the first video that pops up should suffice) it takes 30seconds to make. 2) Plastic glue should be used in a vantilated areas, the fumes of the chemicals melting the plastic can be very harmfull or even in a place with a window if you do a lot of minis at a time or regularly, some people have felt headaches and got health problems, (not just the plastic glue but, spray primers and such materials , do be carefull) 3) The light is also important, like Guy said , not just to see what you are doing but also to take care of your eyes, youll be able to paint better and longer . Try to aim for a 5500 to 6000k led bulb (K is for kelvin and it should say that in the packaging) , lasts longer, similates day light better, and costs less in energy bills.

Hi! I have found a really handy tip for painting robes of the kind of your skitarii instead of sub-assembling them is to blue-tack the miniature to the base. To access any tricky bits, just remove it and then stick it back. This might not work well with applying sand/texture paint before priming though, but I usually use GW's cityfight bases or basing paints, so I always apply them after painting. Anyway, your videos are very good, keep it up!

I painted my first miniature--a free space marine--after watching this video. It went well and was really fun, especially as I knew what I was doing, more or less, beforehand. Excellent guide!

A really useful guide. Didn't skip anything as something obvious, and gave some good tips to a more experienced 40k player.

Damn, if an 11 year can do it, there's no reason I can't. Granted I don't have an experienced uncle to guide me, but this is more than enough to get me started.

I genuinely like washing metals in like an Engine or in a greasier sort of environment in Agrax. It makes it feel heated and covered in oils to prevent rust.

Just wanted to thank you. I returned here 4 years later. This was the first video I saw on your channel and the one i followed for my first mini. After four years, my necron army is almost finished, and i came back to get a refresh on how to apply the transfers ahahahah. Cheers mate, your videos accompanied me through this long journey and more. And now i also have orks and tyranids to paint. :)

As many have said before, this is probably the best beginner video out there for painting miniatures. I am currently starting and every guide, tutorial or explanation i read and watch adds two questions for each it solves. This video cleared all of that, thank you so much!

For a world (universe?) that's so depressingly dark, violent, & evil, the community here is incredibly kind & helpful. I'm fairly new to the Warhammer stuff, my only exposure being video games. The nearly impenetrable lore has made it very intimidating to get into, but with how welcoming the community is, I feel comfortable looking up videos & learning about it, & hopefully collecting, building & painting my own figures. Not ready to try the table top game, but, baby steps lol

I've been a 40k fan for years, but I've never really painted a model. After seeing this, I think I'll give it a go. If I can get anywhere as close as your nieces did, I'll know I did a good job. I really like the blood detail on the Necron. Nice touch.
