I also find the Great Silence, to be God, Enlightenment or whatever word you wish to use. Miek spoke about being unable to speak the words in the liturgy. I know this well,......words become obselete, and even unbearable. And when you hear others speak them, you know with complete confidence that the words have no relationship to the Truth, and are meaningless.

I do not think Miek was a member of the Carthusians. I suggest she was a member of the 'Monastic Family of Bethlehem'. Although they are similar and dress the same they are separate from Carthusians.

Was it a recognised Carthusian charter house or was it an offshoot.

+johannesnicolaas - I am not convinced the foundation you refer to is actually Carthusian. It may follow the Carthusian lifestyle and traditions but I was unaware the Carthusians have a foundation in Belgium.
