​@@johanneskirestos5316 Yes. He admitted that it is an amazing jet. He stated this after once making an extremely low flight over buildings. He also said that it was a very stable machine during flight, unlike the MiG-21. But one thing that bothered him was the poorly planned arrangement of the instruments in the cockpit. Besides, this is a problem that other pilots have mentioned. I recommend that you read carefully about this plane because it is an interesting design. Personally, I am a MiG-23 fanatic.

Very great video, Bob! I never put a lot of thought into MiG-23, it was always under my radars, but when I actually got MLD, boy it was extremely enjoyable, even before top dogs were moved to 12.7. On a small note - you actually don’t need to put your wings in semi-auto on a runway to set them to 0%. You can just press the button to decrease It to 0% and game will set it, despite not showing you your current wing sweep and flashing a warning that wing sweep control is not available in auto mode. Also in terms of missiles, I haven’t noticed you mention it, but all IR missiles on MiG-23 can be radar slaved. Sure it gives enemy RWR a warning, but if enemy is already paying attention and pre-flaring, it helps your missile to not switch lock from engine to flares before launch. Also funny note about Sapphire-23 - it works on J band, same as Sapphire-21, and a lot of jets In downtier have RWR tat doesn’t usually detect J band radars, so you will be quite stealthy in such cases. Anyway, was very enjoyable to watch, love that you increase your repertoire with other aircrafts than just choppers. Thx for the great content and looking forward to next video!

I've spaded the M, MLA & MLD. From my experience. The 23T/R are terrible cus they don't start tracking for 1-2 sec, so you're stuck with them on the M but for the other get the 24T/R's! MLA is more of a energy fighter and MLD is more AoA fighter-quickly turning to get the nose on target. Initally I felt the Floggers had terrible radar missiles but nowadays I think Gaijin tweaked the radar missiles and chaff and radar lock cus the 24R is behaving much better and I prefer it over the 24T. Overall, I heard alot of bad rep about the Flogger for their irl performance but in the game the ML, MLA, MLD are really competitive even agains't F-14A, Mirage 2K's.

The MiG-23s did not make it in time for Vietnam, meanwhile Arab countries were sold a watered down export version with terrible downgrades of the missiles. Those Arab users didn't employ the aircraft effectively either in their infinite war with the Israelis. The MiG-23s saw very little action near South African skies in the hands of Cuban pilots (you must be wondering Cuba vs South Africa, yeah that happened). Then the infamous shooting down of Libyan MiG-23s by F-14s. The F-14 could shoot down just about any aircraft with its AIM-54 Phoenix missile until Su-27s showed up with R-27R missiles. By then USSR had dissolved. So yeah, great aircraft the MiG-23. Just a lot of tough luck. WarThunder has a very different battle environment than real life.

The funny thing is the MiG-23ML and MLD in game have such amazing energy retention in high G turns, they dogfight better than the F-16C, M2K, F-14A and B and even the SU-27 with R-73s, I rairly ever lose custom battle 1v1s against those planes sporting minimum fuel. The mig 23s flight performance is bullshit good in game.

It was a really good fighter that earned a terrible reputation from the watered down export variant use by Soviet client states in the Arab world going up again US BVR missiles. War Thunder allows players to close the gap where the MiG-23 truly shines. In DCS, Falcon 4, Janes air combat games etc the MiG-23 was never as lucky.

@@sztypettto the MLD and MLA were poor dogfighters, their wings could not load high Gs, and they had a very large turn radius. This is not realistic, the MiG-29 and SU-27 should smoke the flogger in a dogfight in game but they don't.

@@Bob_Dickinson I don't want to be a nitpicker but one thing you forgot to mention in your comparison chart is that the Mig 23 1st & 2nd Gen get a SPO-10 RWR while 3rd Gen get a SPO-15 (big difference for me since I fly a lot of sim) but still the format is amazing, Watched your other videos, I'll be waiting for further releases!

MTI is short for Moving Target Indicator. It's to filter out ground clutter. That's the big green blob on your radar which "clutters" your display. The way is works it stores the a image of the scan in a buffer and then scans again, the things that have not changed are thrown out and the ones that have, the "Moving Targets" are "Indicated" because they have changed position.

You can change range presets on the Sapfir-23, just not at low altitude. If you're above the automatic MTI switching altitude, you can switch between 30, 60, and 90km presets in both SRC and SRC LD modes. Below the automatic switching altitude, you are locked to a 30km search in both SRC and SRC MTI.

Pointing out things: -Search LD can be easily "replaced" with normal Search and manually adjusting radar dish elevation. Bit of a bother, but highly useful for MTI, which also points downward and has very narrow scanning area. -radar unreliability comes primarily from MTI mode - this mode has much shorter range detecting enemies which can be major pain in Sim and as mentioned, faces bit downward. Regular Search can detect planes just fine, when ground doesn't interfere. -SPO-10 RWR is just ugh. Its barely usable in ARB, but its advanced level of useless in Sim, as it doesn't detect Pulse Doppler capable radars. That includes main premium nemesis, F-4S. -Awful canopy can be dealt with by opening it during flight/take off, so it gets torn off. Major QoL improvement in dogfights Overall airframe isn't bad, R24 missiles are great, but I'd lean on getting Mig-23MLD and putting talisman on it. MUCH more usable, but still crude RWR (SPO-15), ability to mix R and T missiles and wing slats bit bit of AoA can make a difference.

Oh yes ofcourse. Honestly the Mti ACM radar lock is only functional at LESS THAN 9.8 KM, as far as i have experienced it. But other than that yea... once i got my first account banned off of wt for opening my cockpit in sim... probably someone reporded me... never done that again sooo, yep

I don't think open cockpit is "bannable offense", even more so how glitchy killer cam is. Getting shot down by Mirage missing wings for example, so it looked like angry sharpened baguette. Though speaking of sharpened baguettes, M2k S4 and S5 are winners of recent BR changes, both in Air RB and Sim its not even funny.

I’m not sure about that now but when the f16 was first added it wasn’t as good so the mig kinda had a chance to rate right with the f16

oh yea... they are mostly thing that "turning" is the only option on the table. while the energy management is a major part of this, and tactics on how to fly the god dayum thing if u switch to guns... honestly its incredible lol

the Mig 23ML Does have cannon ballistics computer u just have to activate it, press Y-3-1 to activate it. or whatever button you use to activate multi function menu. go to weaponry, then press toggle cannon ballistics computer

so you ignored all of the things said in the video, ignoring the armaments, explanation of radar presets, flight performance, history all of that , just the fact that i did not explain the gameplay, which was not recorded for "Explaining a battle Gameplay" its for showing the flight performance, the possibilities etc... cmon man its really unfair. if you want gameplay explanation, we are not doing here. remember if you enjoy the content, watch it all you want, if you dont like it, the door is always open, you can turn around and leave.
