Mig Drive Motor Not Working? Here's What To Do

Mig welding is fun and it can bring out the creative juices in us. But one of the most frustrating things that can happen when Mig welding is your Mig welder won’t feed the wire. When this happens, this is usually caused by a number of issues. It could be that the Mig welder wire feed motor not working because there is trouble within the circuit board components, the connectivity to the drive motor is cut , or the motor has an issue or maybe the problem his inside your MiG torch.
But since you don’t know what’s happening, you have two options. It’s either you take your machine to the shop and spend a good amount of money or try to solve the issues yourself first. But then you must know how to troubleshoot a mig welder because Mig welder feed problems, as we mentioned, can be caused by many reasons, and sometimes some of these problems can be interconnected. In this video, I will teach you, through my experience, some Mig welder repair techniques which I call “quick tips fix for Mig welder wire feed problems”. These tips I’ve learned from years of experience and most of the time, they work!!
So if your Mig welder wire feed motor not working, you could do first the following: checking the electricity flows the circuit board to your drive motor, replacing the fuses, finding and checking the machine’s “wire check button” This will let you know if the motor is still good, and checking the connectivity between the motor and the torch. All of these may sound so easy to do right? But don’t think that way because you still must know how to actually do them to avoid further complications. Especially when dealing with electricity, the welder’s motherboard, the motor, and connectivity between the torch and the machine, you may cause further damage if you work on them the wrong way. If you don't feel confidant just take it in for repairs at a store.
So after watching this video and understand how to troubleshoot the mig welder wire feed problem, you may want to try our suggestions and save yourself from spending money on repairs that basically can be done in your workshop and can take only a few minutes to do them. Every step of the way, the fixing instructions are shown in this video and with explanations. So if your Mig welder wire won’t feed, don’t get alarmed.

My wire feed was not working on my Northern Tool MIG 135. I could hear the gas switch clicking but the wire feed motor would not turn. I checked everything according to your video. I did find a loose wire (stripped bolt) on the back of the voltage switch and repaired that. I hate to admit this, but after "mucking around" with a multimeter checking continuity everywhere, I found no problem. Here was the solution: I had set the wire speed at 1 for thin sheet metal. What I discovered is that when you turn the knob all the way down to 1, IT TURNED THE WIRE SPEED MOTOR OFF!! When I turned it just off the bottom stop, the wire speed motor WORKED!!!! Your video saved me from throwing this little welder away. Thanks!

LOL yea we have all overlooked something LOL.I once got a electrician out because I lost all power in my workshop I checked all fuses on my board all ok. Waited 2 days sparky turned up went straight to fuse board pushed a breaker I hadn't seen .Talk about looing like a dick lol.

Thank you very, very much. I'm a beginning welder, first mig machine, haven't used an inch of wire yet (just a little stuck welding so far). Trying to thread wire in my new machine and the feed wouldn't turn, so I looked at KZbin). Sure enough, my feed was turned all the way down, read your comment, turned it up, works fine. THANK YOU!

Brother great find & fix, it's always the tiny little things that go wrong, you Always think it's the biggest problem. You search and search, take apart everything and at the end , it's a small wire unplugged. Glad you found the problem, cheers my friend

My cord Shorted out and now it moved really slow and only when I keep hitting trigger... If I hold it down nothing... Any ideas?
